He seemed so confused, maybe even hurt, when she backed away and tried to apologize. But she knew that he was beginning to come back to his senses just by the look in his eyes. It was as if they seemed distant the moment all their true emotions came flooding back to them. Adaryn could see the tired and guilty look in his eyes, plus the fact that the feeling around them instantly changed.
Monroe held eye contact, and she braced herself for the screaming, but it never came. Instead, he chuckled and spoke gently, though awkwardly, explaining that it was nice to feel happy. He said that he probably wouldn't have hugged her like that because he didn't usually hug people, and her stomach dropped slightly. Why? She wasn't quite sure. Adaryn didn't hug people either, so what was the big deal? "I don't like hugging people much either, because well, you see what happens when I do."
He smiled at her again, and she couldn't help but give him a small smile back. This time it wasn't forced, or a smile that was only given to be fair. It was a genuine smile, or rather, half smile. Monroe seemed like a good person, and he didn't seem to be too mad about what she had just done. Maybe him being in her dream wasn't actually a bad thing, maybe it was for the best that he was in the library at the same time she was. Maybe she can finally have a friend. "So...you really aren't mad?"

It was nice to finally see a hint of a smile appear on Adaryn's lips, and Monroe was sure it was genuine and not forced this time. "No, I'm not mad. It was weird, yes. But...I wouldn't mind feeling a little happiness every now and then..." he said softly, shrugging as he stuffed his hands in his pocket and rocked back and forth on his heels. "I realize that your power can definitely have some unwanted effects for people...but what I don't get is how they can think it is your fault. Just like it's not mine that I fall into others' dreams." It wasn't fair that they were blamed and outcast because of it, even though Monroe did prefer to be on his own most of the time.

"The last time I used... they got mad at me and then I swear they were going to hit me. They didn't of course... but the anger radiating off of them..." Adaryn trailed off, looking away, trying to force the memories that were bubbling up to go away. That day hadn't been the most pleasant, and it actually happened to be her first day. Needless to say, her first impression of the school was terrifying and if it weren't for the fact that she knew they would teach her how to use her powers.
But he enjoyed the feeling of being happy, so he wasn't yelling, and that was so much of a relief to her. Adaryn was really enjoying herself. Monroe was very kind and he tried being funny. She probably would have laughed at his sarcasm if it hadn't been for the whole "talking about the dream" thing they had.
"So Monroe, if you want to help me so bad... why don't we start now?" Now she was timid again. She never made an excuse to hang out with a guy before, it was actually quite nerve racking to her. "I mean it is quiet and there is nothing but happy people around so it might be easier for me to concentrate." She stuttered a few times but she figured she was convincing enough.

Monroe listened to her speak, knowing her power was a burden. Most were. That was the sad part about having a gift. It wasn't all fun and games, not all the time. He nodded at her, as he did want to help her. "Now?" he asked, laughing at her eagerness. He'd never helped somebody with something like this before and he wasn't sure how to go about it. "I'm not exactly sure how to go about it..." He wasn't expecting to start now, or to even really know how to help her yet. That's why he needed to talk to Eloise. "I...would you mind if I talked to a friend about you? I think combined with her help we'd be able to really help you."

Talk to a friend about her? It was an odd request, and she really did not know how to answer. What if the other person thought she was a freak because of her power? Though...that wouldn't actually make sense because they were probably in Veritas or Spiritus and had a power too. But what if they didn't like what they heard? And had she met this person before? Probably not...so how could she trust them? Adaryn cleared her head. She knew she was over reacting. Monroe wouldn't do anything to hurt her, right?
"Uhm..well, can I at least know the name of this person?" It was bad enough that she had practically agreed to have him tell somebody about her, but what if it was another guy. Adaryn shuddered. It was hard enough to really feel comfortable around Monroe, and even still, she still hadn't warmed up to him completely. She didn't want this to be something she would regret.

Adaryn immediately seemed hesitant and Monroe felt bad for bringing up telling a friend, but Eloise would understand. She had a burdening power just as Adaryn did. So it would be good for them to talk. He did realize that she was rather shy and didn't like getting involved with people because it seemed they didn't like her for her power.
"Sorry, I was just trying to think of ways to help you, you know? I don't know how much I can help. But my friend, her father taught her how to put up blocks. It could work for your power. I don't know, it's worth a shot." He shrugged his shoulders. "Her name is Eloise."

"Eloise?" How hadn't she realized that he was talking about Ella until now? She had told Adaryn that she had learned from her father how to put up a mental block, but it hadn't been until Monroe had said her name that she realized that it was actually Eloise. "Wow...What a small world." She said. What were the odds that he was meaning to speak to the one other person she felt even remotely comfortable with? Well, she kind of had to. Eloise was her roommate, after all.
"Eloise is my roommate, and she kinda already knows about my power. She was... the only one, up until you, that hadn't minded me using my power." She explained.

"Yeah, Eloise. She...." Monroe wasn't sure that Eloise was comfortable with him spilling her power, but then Adaryn seemed to have realized something and went on to say that Eloise was her roommate. "Really?" he asked, grinning at that. It was weird how that worked out. "That's great that you already know her." It would save him the awkward introductions. "I...met her in the library a while ago. We have similar powers so she's really nice to talk to. She understands." In any case, he was glad that Adaryn stumbled across Eloise. She was a genuine person.

Adaryn hadn't noticed, but the clouds above the garden began to darken and everybody seemed to have cleared out during the duration of their conversation. The only thing that brought attention to the weather was the loud boom that sounded. She let out a small cry of alarm, and jumped backward. She hated loud, unexpected noises such as thunder and slamming doors. "Sorry..." She apologized quickly.
Suddenly the rain began to pour around them and she squealed in surprise. She hadn't expected it to start raining either. Well, wasn't the end of this day going well? She stared at Monroe for a moment, and was going to run, but remembered what happened when she left him and had to look back to see if he was following. She hesitated even though she knew Cain wasn't here. She felt the water soak into her hair and slide down her scalp. Her clothes were now wet, and it was coming down harder now. The thunder sounded again and she knew she wouldn't stay out there any longer. "I'll see you sometime soon?" She asked, but didn't wait to receive an answer. As much as she didn't want to leave Monroe there, she also didn't want to get sick. "Bye Monroe! Get back inside the dorms!" She called out to him, before speeding away.
"What a way to end a day..." She thought bitterly. But what is done is done, she cannot change the past. Adaryn had to learn that lesson the hard way, not too long ago.
