"Oh that one," Rafi said, knowing exactly who Jade was speaking of. Talon was known for being hot headed, and Rafi wasn't surprised if he were depressed to. It would explain his actions. But Rafi did not know him well. He sighed. He hoped he would come to see the joy in life and love himself as everyone should.
"Oh my lovely Jade, if that was a proposal I must deny it.... for now," he joked with his friend. "If we turn 40 and are both still unwed, then we shall talk again." he said with a chuckle. Even with Rafi's calm and encouraging nature Jade still seemed uneasy. "Is there anything else I need to know?" he asked, still concerned.

Of course Rafi knew who Talon was, he was that broody guy, most knew him. "He used to be on the swim team with me," she mumbled. "He's unstable and...he lost his sister just like I did. They're around the same age." She knew that Rafi could understand connections through death because of his power, his personality and the own death in his life of his father. Sometimes she wished she would have known him back when Lanie died. Maybe then she'd still be alive, but that was selfish to think of. She didn't want to use Rafi for his power. He was her best friend.
She managed a small smile. "I don't think you'll be unwed at age forty, Rafi. You're too gorgeous, loyal and such a good listener. You're like the perfect husband." She gently shoved him, then moved her hand to push hair out of her face.
Lanie had disappeared during their conversation and Jade wondered to where.
"No," she said softly, finally answering his other question. "I think that's all...I'm just...worn out."

Rafi shrugged, turning to sit on the chair where he had left his jacket. "Oh I'm not that great. Devastatingly handsome....maybe," he smiled. He did not truly believe that, but knew that it would make Jade laugh. He had heard it from others too. But he still did not see his own appeal.
"Death is a cruel mistress," Rafi said referring to the young girl that Jade had encountered earlier. "But it is also relief for some. It is not good to brood over death, but accept it." It was an odd view to have as somebody who rose the dead. Though Rafi knew a lot about his power and its limitations - most of which were due to the desire of the spirits to return. "And you need rest mija. It is clear the past days events have not been kind."

"You've got that right," Jade said with a laugh. "I better be careful, or I might give you an ego." Still, he was truly handsome, perhaps more so than anybody she'd ever met. One guy was going to be very lucky someday. "And when you get married to somebody equally as handsome, I better be invited to the wedding."
She sighed and sat down in the chair across from him. "Death is cruel, but I do agree with you. I'm not afraid of death. I mean, I don't want to die now, but I know that I'll be at rest." Still, it seemed as if she could not accept Lanie's, mostly because she was always around anyway. "Yeah, I know. I just want to sleep for eternity." She groaned and then tried to pipe up again. "So, are you going to the snow ball with anybody?"

"Jade if anything I expect you to be IN the wedding, so don't fret," he smiled at the thought of actually getting married one day. Once he became a citizen of Canada or one of the states which legalized gay marriage. But still... the thought of it made him happy.
"I think I'm just going alone," Rafi responded. "There isn't anybody who interests me but I still want to go and mingle." Rafi loved socail gatherings and events, even if he was a quiet person. "Plus, nothing would compare to last year with Vincent." Vincent was a graduate of Veritas whom took a short liking to Rafi before deciding that he liked girls better, and went back to his girlfriend. Rafi didn't exactly know what to make of their short lived relationship, but he had a lot of fun with him at the ball.

"That's right. I better be in your wedding. I'll have my dress picked out years in advance. However, I do have preferences about the color. Black preferably." Jade grinned at him, loving how unease she could feel with Rafi. It was as if her troubles melted away for a while. "I see, well I'm sure you'll find plenty of people to dance with with your handsome face." She remembered Vincent. Sure the guy was cute and Rafi and him had some sort of short fling, if that's what you could call it. But in the end, the guy was confused and went back to his girlfriend. In a way to Jade, it seemed as if he'd used Rafi which made her a little edgy. She didn't have to tell Rafi she wasn't going. She hadn't gone the year before and she'd explained why. She liked to dress up daily anyway. There would be nothing different about going to a dance and bad things were always bound to happen at dances. It was a given.

"Oh darling, you know I'd have to put you in a much more torturous color than that. Like purple, or neon pink," he winked at his friend, teasingly. Though in honesty the color at his wedding were likely to be maroon. It was his favorite. He tried to convince Jade to go with him before, but he quickly realized it was in her best interest not to go. He hoped she would at least go to one dance before she graduated, but he knew it would not be this one. "You know me," he said. "I'll have fun either way. I like meeting the people from Spiritus." he shrugged.

"For you, I'd still go," Jade told him. "I'd suck it up, even though I do not approve of those color choices." Still, she grinned at her best friend. She knew that Rafi knew she wouldn't be going and he didn't say anything about it. He knew her so well. "I know you'll have a blast regardless. Let me know if you meet anybody. We've gotta start planning that wedding sometime!" she teased, before finally falling serious again. "Hey, thanks for listening to me today."

"Of course," Rafi said. "You talk like it's a chore, but I enjoy listening and helping you. I promise." He stood and picked his pool stick back up, taking a shot, and actually sinking on. He laughed. "If I can make a shot in pool, maybe my chances of meeting somebody at the dance aren't that bad after all."
He turned to Jade. "So what will you be doing instead?" he asked curiously - thinking his friend may hve made some alternative plans to entertain herself. Then again, maybe not. She may just settle for studying or reading in her room, but he hoped she was going to do something she found fun.

"Well, it should be like a chore," Jade told him. "My problems aren't very typical teenager issues, but I appreciate you wanting to help, Rafi. It's why I go to you." She always went to him. She didn't know what she'd do without him. She followed him back over to the pool table, raising an eyebrow when he sunk a ball. "I don't think your ability to play pool has any connection to your love life, but I hope you meet somebody too. You have to keep me posted."
She grinned as she picked up her own pool stick and got down to eye level with the table, taking a shot and for the first time since they started, not sinking it in a pocket. "Looks like the tables have turned," she said dramatically before answering his question. "I...I uh, actually have plans. An Anti-Snow Ball. It's...It's with Talon. You know, the guy I saved. I think, I think he's warming up to me. I wanna try to help him."

Rafi sighed slightly at this. "Oh Jade. You have a heart of gold you know that?" he asked her, looking at her endearingly. "But don't get yourself into trouble. Or get in over your head at somebody else's expense..." he knew her intentions were nothing but good, but Rafi knew Talon had a record for being hard to handle. And Jade was so easily influenced by other's emotions. And she had a hard time forgetting things and leaving them behind.
"I just don't want to see you get hurt," Rafi explained in a sweet, soothing manner.

"I know and that's why you love me," Jade said with a smile to his comment. "But I'll be fine, okay? I can handle people. If I can handle myself, I can handle anybody." What she'd been through lately, Jade wasn't sure what would make her shut down. But it would take something pretty significant to do it. "Don't worry about me. I'm going to try and help him."
She knew Rafi was looking out for her, but she'd be fine.
