Skylar
"Sadly," Skylar gave an exasperated sigh, rolling her ever so slightly. He was so keen on her enjoying his accent, like it was something that he wanted so desperately. Sure, he had an English accent, but that made no difference to her. He said Aluminum in an odd way, and he sounded a lot more proper than most of us, but it didn't matter. Shit, if he was a snob with that accent, she wouldn't be around him. His accent was one thing that made him unique, sure, but it was just an accent. "I wonder if I can use my power to not only reverse your own, but reverse your accent too. That would be a fun experiment, wouldn't you think?" She gave him a slight nudge, laughing softly before turning to look ahead of her.
She blinked in confusion when he looked back at her after looking at the group of freshmen in the corner. Skylar and Tanner finally started walking through the Auditorium, the music hitting them instantly. She had to raise her voice slightly. "Well, when you look over at a group of two freshmen girls and some guy, and then you get some weird ass frown on your face. By the way, what was that, anyway? But seriously, you can't expect me to believe you are into freshman. I mean, in a few months, that ship will have sailed and if you even look at one, it will be considered illegal!" She remembered as a freshman, she wanted so desperately for a junior or senior to look at her, but she was a senior now, and the thought of looking at some little freshy boy or girl made her gag. "Anyway, I don't really care about that anymore. Let's dance!" She grabbed his hand and lead him to the dance floor. Time to get his mind off of those freshmen, and more on skylar.
Cain
Elijah was chosen to chaperone the dance, being forced to watch children dance in a disgusting manner. There were moments that he wondered why he even chose to do this in the first place, but then he quickly reminded himself that he was here to seek out specific targets, learn the powers of potential victims, and then find the trouble makers. Trouble makers were the easiest to put on his side, because all they truly cared about was the thrill of doing the illegal.
He scanned the room, looking for his son, and when he could not locate him in the crowd, Elijah was frustrated. Already he was tired, exhausted from not receiving the energy from that dream walker because he healed himself, and then not being able to even get Adaryn's. He had tried gaining the energy from a few different victims, but it wasn't like stealing it from the freshman child. Every time that knife went into her stomach, he felt alive and awake. Now he just felt horrid.
Finally he eyed his son walking into the Auditorium with Skylar, whom he still had to meet personally. She was leading him to the dance floor with a wicked smile on her face. Or, at least that was how he saw it. That child was a danger to his family. If she so much as used her power on Tanner, that charm that was placed on him would be gone. Then all the memory would flood back and he would be back to rebellious Tanner. He couldn't have that. Elijah looked away, sickened by the sight of the two together. It won't be like that for long, He thought bitterly.
Adaryn
"But at least I am considerate! I understand her power, so I don't allow her into my head at times. Of course she will hear math problems, which I know she hates, but at least it is better than the alternative. I want my secrets, and I want to be able to trust someone with it! I thought I trusted her, but I guess I was wrong..." Adaryn knew she needed to calm down, that all of these things she was saying was not true. But she was fuming, and she was saying all the worst things. She was trying to push the person standing a few feet away from her away. It was easier not having to worry about other people's feelings. To be alone worked for her, and now these two were coming and trying to ruin that peace that she worked so hard on achieving! Adaryn was going to say something horrible, but her words got caught in her throat when he started talking again.
He said he noticed... He noticed her? She just shrugged it off as just being her friend, so he had to notice. He could explain Eloise just as well as he could explain her. What he was saying was just something he had to. "Yeah, you were being stupid. I can't believe you would think I would humiliate myself by saying yes and then getting all excited about it, just to figure out that they would never come. Why would you assume that I would do that to myself? I'm no fool." She snapped. But this time it came off a bit more forced, as if she was losing her resolve, and she was.
But the more he continued on, answering her questions, she wanted to run away and hide. Monroe liked her, and she couldn't understand why. He assumed it was because of Cain, but it wasn't. Her own parents hated her. She killed her sister. She was screaming at one of the only friends she had, trying to push him away. What kind of person did those kinds of things? Oh yeah, she did. Adaryn knew how horrible she really was, so him liking her was just out of the question....
" I died the other night. I was dead and I know because I felt it, for the shortest moment."
Oh yeah, and there was another reason why he couldn't care about her. If he did, Cain was going to kill him for sure. It was her fault that he died the other night. It was her fault because she allowed him to come into her dream. She couldn't let that happen to him again... she already didn't forgive herself.
"I'm a coward because if I wasn't...I would have told you how I felt. I just...didn't want to bombard you with my emotions"
No... he wasn't a coward... he was one of the bravest people she knew. He was willing to go into her dream, knowing that something terribly wrong could happen if he did. And the worst did happen, he died. And she knew that he would still be willing to do it again if it meant saving her.
"You aren't a coward." She mumbled. Her resolve was crumbling now, the walls collapsing. Now she was just conflicted and shy Adaryn. Adaryn who didn't want him hurt. And if he liked her, he would somehow get hurt, whether it be by her, or by someone else. "But you can't... you can't like me, Monroe... you just... can't..." She tore her gaze away and buried her face in her knees. Her signature. "I can't... let you..."

"Ah well I don't have much to say for powers class but my power is not one that many understand anyway..." Rafi said thinking about some of the "lessons" he had been taught. They were not always helpful or even insightful. Rafi did a lot of learning on his own. Though he had seen great successes in the powers class as well.
"You see... I am a necromancer," Rafael explained. "I can bring those who have died back to life. Within reason, of course. There is only so much they can do to test my power. I think I have resurrected hundreds of mice in my time here. And I wish they would stop killing them because once in a while they don't come back, and I feel as if I am to blame." He shook his head. "I'd much rather only use my power when absolutely necessary."
"Fire though... they will help you. An old friend of mine had trouble with his water control. He constantly flooded the bathrooms and classrooms and... well... anywhere really. But by the time he left he has nearly mastered the skills he was blessed with."
"Only two," Marley corrected Everett, "But you're pushing three with this 'experience' bullshit you keep trying to sell me." She rolled her eyes just slightly and looked around, trying to see how anything here could be appealing, but failed. "Am I allowed to keep tally of the amount of times I think about leaving?" she asked half seriously.
He was trying. Which was more than most people did when it came to Marley. He was trying to make her have fun and be happy. He just didn't understand how to. She wasn't sure why he wanted to either.

"My accent is a power," Tanner said, shaking his head at Skylar's idea. "It's a part of who I am and how do you reverse my power anyway?" He tried to think about it. If he was turning back time, would time go forward? Skylar had never tried it on him anyway.
"It wasn't anything," he told Skylar with a shrug, which it really wasn't. He wasn't sure why his gaze had fleeted to them, but it had. He wouldn't worry about it right now anyway. Instead, he followed her out onto the dance floor as a catchy pop song started up. The auditorium was super crowded.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Monroe let Adaryn talk, listening intently but finding that he couldn't stand half of what she was saying. "I didn't think he was going to ditch you! Why would you think that Adaryn? Someone might be genuinely interested in you, you know." He was definitely right about her lack of confidence. "And you weren't wrong about El, alright? She made a mistake. It happens. We're human, alright? But El and you....you're all I've got right now. Please don't push us away, Ad." He didn't know what else to say. She was telling him now that he couldn't like her. "You can't tell me to not like you. It doesn't work that way. I don't need to have El's mind reading power to know what you're thinking. You're thinking about everyone else again, about how you don't want me getting hurt because of you, but you know what? It's my choice whether I get involved in what's going on or not and I already have. Are you going to write me out of your life because I'm trying to help you? Because I'm not going to be a part-time friend, Ad. I'm here to stay, no matter how stubborn you're going to be about it."
It was exhausting arguing with Adaryn, mostly because she did all she could to push you away, but Monroe wasn't going to. He finally told her he liked her and all he got was Adaryn telling him he couldn't? "I know what I feel and you can't change how I feel."
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Wow, resurrection. That was powerful. "Wow," Dakota mumbled in response to what he said. "That's really great. You can help a lot of people." At least his powerful was useful in that way. All Dakota could do was start fires. And the only way that would be useful was if he was stranded somewhere and needed to start a fire to cook food to eat, otherwise it just had destructive purposes. But he nodded, nervously fidgeting with his tie. "I'm hoping I can get to that point, because I have a lot of problems with my power. I've set my bed on fire in my sleep before."
"Have you only resurrected mice? I mean, have you brought people back?"
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
"Sorry, I miscounted. It felt like a lot more than that," Everett said, although he'd thrown out a random number anyway. "And it's not bullshit, okay? Dances aren't magical. They aren't usually some romantic get-away, but they aren't completely stupid either. You've just got to find fun in them, that's all." He was working hard to get through to her.
"And yeah, keep a tally of whatever keeps you here, alright? Even if it's how many times you want to leave. But just know that if you leave, you bought that dress for nothing." It was a good point and he smiled, feeling accomplished.
"But if you want to observe the people, you need to go near them, Marley and preferably not bite their heads off," he instructed, hesitantly grabbing Marley's arm and leading her towards the crowd. "C'mon. You've come this far, might as well go the extra mile."

Keyla cocked her head to the side as she looked at Silver. "You want to date him?" And who was this Sapphire? Her first impression was that this Uriel was dangerous and that he knew it, thrived off of it. It was sort of sickening, yet amusing and Keyla couldn't stop observing the situation. Byron and Silver were talking about him as if he was some royalty that all of Veritas and Spiritus knew. You would think that somebody would be less discreet about those kind of things, but Uriel didn't seem to care who saw what, obvious by the show he was making. "Does he even have a reason to be attacking those people?" she asked, more or less confused. He seemed kind of off-balance.
She'd barely heard Byron's warning when she began weaving in between people, the commotion going on making her curious. She wanted to get a closer look and although Byron had warned her, she usually didn't listen to others when they told her she shouldn't do something. If her mind was set on something, it was nearly impossible to deter her.

Byron tried to grab her arm for her to stay back, but that didn't go to well. "There she goes ..." he muttered sighing lightly. He decided he'd go after her. He'd had to admit though, she was one curious woman, more curious than Silver or Ziio. At least they took his warnings. With a sigh, Byron went in after her. "I guess you don't care much for warnings, do you?" he asked her as soon as he caught up, his tone half joking half serious. You couldn't tell with Byron though, his voice always sounded a bit jokey.
Silver sighed softly and decided not to go after them, for the wrath of Uriel is for them to take, not her.

Adaryn was so frustrated, so close to tearing up. The two were going at it, back and forth, one side trying to convince the other. But she knew she was right. She knew that no human being could care about her without regretting it later. And even though it was exhausting pushing people away, it was safer that way. It was better that way. "Why would I think at?!" She gave a detached laugh. "If you only knew. And before you think it is Cain, it isn't. He is just rubbing the reasons in my face."
He continued, talking about Eloise and about how he knew what she was thinking. That she didn't want him hurt. All of it was true, and that made her want to scream. Because it was much more complicated than he thought it was, which was the sad part. For a fourteen, almost fifteen, year old girl to deal with all these things was not right. Suddenly, she cried out "I'm trying to save you! Do you understand what I am capable of doing to you?! Do you understand that even my PARENTS hate me because of what I have done?!" Adaryn stood, walking over to stand in front of him. "Monroe, I can break you. I can get into your head and cause you so much emotional pain that you end your life right there." Tears were welling up in her eyes, her jaw clenched "I have done it before." With her head tilted back slightly, she locked her eyes on his. "Monroe... I was the reason my sister killed herself."

She became lost when Uriel began talking about kid's show characters. What the heck was he on about? She shot a look at Gavin. Was Uriel even in his right mind right now?
"I never suggested you kill him," she said with a roll of her eyes. She then frowned at Uriel's assumption. Why did he insist on insinuating that she was Gavin's and Gavin was hers? It was beginning to get annoying; she could care less if he killed Gavin! Well, she cared a bit. Okay, maybe a lot. But it wasn't like she made it obvious!
When Uriel began to cause a scene, Aura closed her eyes and sighed, shaking her head. He just had to make the distraction extravagant. She bet he was the type who would propose to someone using an airplane to draw out the words 'will you marry me?' in the sky. Nothing he did could possibly be 'small'. It was slightly ridiculous, but she supposed it worked. Everyone nearest was looking at Uriel now. She thought Uriel was slightly hypocritic, however. Did he not just seconds ago refuse to fight Gavin, yet he had no problem getting into a fight with a random guy? She raised an eyebrow skeptically. He sure was difficult to figure out. She wondered how his mind worked, but was glad she did not know. His mind was probably a tangle of a mess.
She let Gavin take care of Uriel's mess, however, and turned to focus on the punch. With a quick glance over her shoulder to make sure people were still paying attention to Gavin and Uriel, she dumped the contents of the vial into the large punch bowl, then corked the vial and replaced it back in the convenient space between her breasts and turned back towards the commotion, her arms folded over her chest. She watched from her spot at the punch bowl for a moment, then walked away from the commotion entirely. Uriel was not her problem, and there was no way she was going to get in the middle of that. Her blood lust was already beginning to heighten. She could not lose it right now.
She heard Uriel shout across the room at her, and cringed. Was he completely off his rocker? She turned to face him, her eyes bulging warningly at him. He was certainly not helping them lay low! And what the hell? Again with the 'wife' thing? She hadn't even kissed Gavin! Sure, there was the bet, but Gavin had not demanded his reward from her...yet.
That was it. She was so done with this Ball. She shook her head at her two partners-in-crime, her jaw set in an angry line. "I'm done," she snapped, her words meaning two things. First, that the vial's contents were now in the punch, and second that she could not stand to be in there anymore now that Uriel was acting like a madman. People were seriously hurt and the teacher's were now flocking over. She was not getting caught up in this. No effing way.

Keyla made her way through the crowd, weaving in-between people who were staring at what was happening and her eyes were set upon the angry blonde in the middle of it all. She finally made her way close to him, around all of the fallen bodies when she stopped to stare at the scene. "What is he doing?" Although she wasn't sure she was asking Byron or really asking anybody. Her eyes were set upon him arguing with another guy who held a knife in his hands. Her eyes widened. "Are school events usually this insane?" Now that was a question for Byron.
She was sort of shocked he'd followed her. Usually people didn't follow her into the messes she got herself into. They knew better, but she didn't really mind.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
"I don't know, Ad," Monroe said. "I don't know because you won't let me. I've been trying to get to know you, but did it ever occur to you that I'm slightly afraid of you? I don't want to get turned down." He was shaking his head, wondering what was going on with her. If he only knew what? There were a lot of things he didn't know and he wanted to know because he cared for Adaryn, but she wouldn't let him in. Instead she shut him out. "If it's not Cain, then what is it?" He doubted he'd get an answer from her, but he found himself asking anyway.
Suddenly her voice increased in volume and she was no longer shrunken on the floor. She'd stood up and walked over to him. It was the loudest Adaryn had ever been. It was unusual for her and just that in general made Monroe take in everything she was saying, without uttering a word or making any move. Something about her sister came up earlier and he hadn't pried, but he'd also known that something was up. "Ad..." his voice was soft as he watched tears well up in her eyes. "I know you blame yourself...but we don't choose our powers. I'm not going to give you some bullshit about our powers choosing us because it was like the universe drew them out of a hat at random. I can't imagine how hard it is to control. To not get overwhelmed by others' emotions or by your own or making others feel emotions on accident. It must be horrible..." he trailed off, realizing something. "That was what Cain meant when he was saying that you were evil?" It was just a guess. "Ad...that's why you're here. They're going to help you here. And you could never do something like that on purpose. Ad, you don't want to hurt people and that's what's important. You're not evil. You don't deserve what Cain is doing to you." His hair fell into his eyes and he made no move to push it away, his eyes boring into hers. He wanted to comfort her, to do anything, but he felt frozen.

Byron shrugged. "I was DJ for most of the time last year, so I have no clue how insane dances could get between the schools ..." he admitted as he followed her. He had never seen anything like this before in his life. Even at the clubs it was pretty mellow. And yes, he DJ'd at those clubs. Looking older than you are was really handy at times like that ... plus a fake ID card.
Byron looked closer t the guy with the knife. He looked to be from the swimming team at Spiritus. How he knew? Ziio was on that team and he always went to watch her swim, along with Sapphire of course. How Byron remembered the face as beyond him.

"Oh but I do, Monroe. I do because I did mean to hurt her in one way or the other. She kept calling me bipolar and delusional because I said I could manipulate and sense emotions. I got mad and I told her I would prove it to her. My mom and dad weren't home, I think they were out on a date. But I decided to prove it by ruining her night and wishing really strong depression on her. I could feel her breaking when I did it and I was happy. She tormented me for years.... But when i heard my parents come home, I was going to greet them and I heard a scream. my mother's scream. I went running, and when I got to the door... I saw blood.... So much blood. I knew she was dead, and i felt horrible." Her voice was cracking, tears streaming, as she recalled the most traumatic event in her life. She never spoke about it to anyone, and how Cain ever found out, she had no clue. But he knew, as she deserved all that he told her. Somebody needed to punish her for what she did. "But regardless of whether I feel bad or not now, I still did it intentionally at first..."
Adaryn stared at the ground knowing that he was frozen in place, either from shock or fear. She wasnt sure because her own emotions were a jumbled mess . She didn't deserve him. He didn't deserve to want someone so horrible. "If you tell me you still like me now... Then.. then I won't say you can't like me. But i still killed my sister... I still can hurt you if I get mad enough. I am still probably going to die soon anyway.... But i won't say you can't care."

Rafael paused, swirling his drink and thinking back to the time when he was young and he had apparently first unknowingly used his power. "Only once," Rafael told Dakota. "And I wasn't truely aware of it, for I was only 6. My father had died, and I had brought him back at the funeral, but only for a brief moment..." he trailed off, still to the day unsure of how he felt about it.
"I don't often come across a person who has died and wishes to come back," Rafi explained. "It only works if they want to return. And if they are still physically able to retain life. It is not as simple as wishing somebody back."
Marley made a wry face as Everett took her arm and tried to pull her toward the crowd. She let him lead her about half way to the crowd before she managed to make him stop. "I really don't think I want to," she muttered a fairly disgusted look crossing her face as she scanned the crowd. She didn't dance. She didn't talk to people on the fly. The only reason she talked to Everett is because he kept talking to her. And talking. And talking. And he basically never shut up. So she just went with it. "And we're definitely at 3 on wanting to kill you and about 7million for wanting to leave." She ignored his point about the dress. She still kind of hated that she went and bought it. She planned on donating it when she was done with it do a girl who REALLY wanted it could have it and use it. Because Marley sure as hell didn't want anything to do with it.

He knew he pushed Aura's buttons. His eyes blinked, and he was ignoring Gavin said. (Like always) He didn't mean to hurt her or even anger her. But Uriel wasn't going to go kiss her ass for that. He rolled his eyes at her " So much for being a devil. Turns out you're just a wussy pants" Uriel twisted on his foot and walked away, people stood out of his way as the blonde assailant just beelined away from the commotion. He didn't need to deal with Aura's Drama Queen bullshit or Gavin's constant bitching of him not following their rules. He makes his own rules. He could feel the atoms around him heating as his anger flared. People inches near him started jumping down cause of the heat he was projecting lined with the small discharge of current. He'd show them.

Monroe looked at her seriously, his eyes never leaving her face. "You couldn't have known it would kill her, Ad. You didn't want to kill her. You're not some sadistic person. You're not Cain." He shook his head, not willing to believe it for a second. "We all do things that we wish we hadn't. The important thing is that you look bad on it and you regret it, alright? You're not a murderer. You're somebody who lost herself to emotions and to her power." It happened and while he knew that it must be hard to deal with that guilt. He was aware that Adaryn could hurt him. Hell, anybody could hurt him if they wanted to, if they tried to. Monroe just didn't usually make enemies, mostly because he kept to himself.
"Anybody can hurt me, Ad. I think I can take the risk." He tried to smile, but it didn't reach his eyes before it faltered. "Look, I don't know....I don't know what to say....If you want me to say that I've changed my mind...it's not going to happen." He fell silent, finally breaking her gaze for a moment, looking at the wall to the left of them. He turned back to her, trying to compose himself. "But how about we figure it out later, I'm not letting you not show off how you look tonight, okay?" He let out a breath, reaching forward to find her hand. "I know it's dumb. High school events always are, but how about we just play along with the charade? And let ourselves fall into the facade for the night. We can go back to reality tomorrow." His thumb ran over her fingers as he clasped it with his own.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
"Why didn't it work?" Dakota asked Rafi curiously. He wasn't sure if he was crossing a line, but he was curious. "Sorry...you don't have to answer if you don't want to. I realize that was kind of an intrusive question." His power seemed so complicated. "How do you know if they want to come back to life?" It seemed as if it had way too many rules.
While he waited for Rafi to answer, he poured himself another cup of punch, turning away from the guy. He was unaware that a tall black-haired upperclassmen had spiked it when he hadn't been paying attention.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Everett was shocked she didn't slap him, or snatch her arm away or even burn him again. She actually let him pull her into the throng of people, but only for so long before she managed to drop his arm. He turned to her. "But you came so far! You're going to turn back now?" It was as if it was some dramatic journey they'd been making. Sometimes he was king of exaggeration, pretending everything was a real life graphic novel.
Still he cracked a smile at what she said. "Well, you can kill me later. Just go with it, okay?" He sighed as some guy backed up into him while dancing, nearly knocking Everett off of his feet. The guy swore about Everett shocking him to which Everett apologized half-heartedly. He raised his voice as a song started blaring. "Please?"

Skylar
"I don't know what power you would get if I reverse it. I only know when it happens. But sometimes I can just reverse the power, as in it hits the person who is using it instead of me. Like I did with--" She cut herself short. Was she about to talk about her dad? Oh hell no. "Well, I don't remember. All I know was that the person got a face full of water." She gave a genuine laugh, because well, it did happen!
"But come on, I'd love to hear you with a sexy american accent! Maybe you could have one of those Boston ones! You know, girls dig those!" She grinned, pulling herself to him since, out of very bad luck, a slow song came on. She wanted to really dance, sway her hips, move against him in a way that would leave him breathless. "They really do need to pick up the music."
Adaryn
She waited and waited. She waited for the sound of disgust, the "Get away from me, you murderer," but it never came. That shouldn't have surprised her though, considering Monroe would never say anything like that, but even still, it caught her off guard. "Of course I didn't want her to die... I just wanted to prove her wrong, and I wanted her to suffer..." It was a horrible thing. Adaryn remembered the horror in her mother's eyes as she looked at her, now eldest, daughter. They never actually spoke to her after that day she told her parents. She bit her lip softly.
He was right though. She didn't mean to kill her sister. It was her intention to, so she wasn't what she thought she was. Sometimes she couldn't help but wonder what life would be like if she was still alive. Adaryn looked up at Monroe, who seemed to look a bit... conflicted. Was he changing his mind? "If you want to lea--" He cut her off, and she couldn't believe what she was hearing. He told her that he wasn't leaving, and that he wasn't letting her not be shown off. What did that mean? Suddenly, she felt a hand wrap around her own, and she stared down to find that Monroe had his hand there. She looked up at him, her mouth hanging open slightly. "Monroe..." She started, but trailed off. There was one thing that he said that really affected her. "We can go back to reality tomorrow." She smiled a small but genuine smile. She felt his thumb brush across her knuckles and she stared at their joined hands while saying "Alright."

Tanner didn't know why she'd stopped talking about, as if she was suddenly jarred with a memory, but he didn't press. Besides, Skylar's kick ass attitude was something he didn't want to ruin. The night was young and he wouldn't ruin it by questioning something she said, or rather didn't say. He wrapped his hands around her waist as the slow song played, swaying with her to the music. "Interesting. How many times have you used that power anyway? That's got to be useful."
"And no! I don't want to be American," he said, wrinkling his nose. "You know they like to play a good mix of slow songs and fast songs. Gives the lovesick couples a chance to hold each other close." He looked down at her with a smirk.

"I know you didn't want her to die. Things went too far. You weren't used to your power then. And how does anybody get used to a power like that anyway? You didn't realize the extent of your own power. Parents don't understand, unless of course they had a power." Sure, Adaryn's sister was no longer alive and she had played a part in it, but she was also cursed with a power. It wasn't her choice.
When he grabbed her hand and told her to forget about it all and just have fun tonight, he knew she was about to argue. And she started by saying his name, but then she trailed off, as if sighing internally and giving in to him. When she agreed, he smiled. "Tonight we give in to the teenage dreams of school dances. And then tomorrow we can talk about how completely stupid the entire ordeal was." Sure, the dance was stupid, but being with Adaryn wasn't. He wanted to show her he cared, which he did. He wasn't going anywhere, he'd known that from the beginning. "Now let's go," he urged, tugging her along back towards the auditorium.
