The butterflies in her stomach went insane as they held hands. It was interesting how such a simple gesture could make her feel so ridiculously giddy, but it did. And she loved it. They dug into the sandwiches, which Mikayla would have found delicious had she been paying more attention to them, but she was hyper aware of Gabe's presence. When a young girl sang a song that reminded Mikayla of her favourite childhood movie, Mikayla beamed at the stage instead of clapping, because there was no way she wanted to let go of Gabe's hand.
But then she found herself with no other option when the owner of the cafe called Gabe up to the stage. "What?" she said, surprised. "I didn't know you were going to perform anything tonight!" She sat up tall, looking forward to whatever it was he was going to sing. Had he brought his guitar? How had she not noticed the fact that he had been carrying it the whole way there? She shook her head slowly and faced the stage, sipping what was left of her drink as she waited.

"Uhmm..." Gabe said as he sat on the stool in the stage and adjusted the microphone by his mouth. "Hi... a lot of you know me. If you don't I'm Gabe." He began to quietly turned his guitar. "And uh..." he stuttered as he tried to focus on the turning and saying what he needed to say. "And I wrote a song really special for tonight," he continued. "I don't usually do original work but it's not always that I'm inspired the way I've been lately." He smiled to himself, and played a chord, content with the quality of tuning.
"So.. yeah," he said. "This song is called 'Don't You' and it's for you Mikayla," he explained looking right at her through his dark glasses. "I mean I hope everybody enjoys it, but... I hope most of all that you like it, and that you'll agree to go to the snow ball with me." He bit his lip as a few women in the audience 'awwed'
He took a deep breath and began to play.

She smiled as he introduced himself on the stage, then went on to say it was an original song he had written from being so inspired. A strong part of her hoped she had been that inspiration, but she did not feel so arrogant as to outright assume that.
When he said it was dedicated to her, the smile faded off her face into a serious expression that was replaced by a deep blush as she felt all eyes on her. She lifted a hand to cover her mouth as he began to play. He wanted to go to the Snow Ball with her! And he had just asked her in front of everyone. She felt elated as he began to play the first few chords on his guitar, then became absorbed by the song, the lyrics, and his voice. The song was beautiful. She wished strongly that she could see him, but even without the ability of sight, she knew he was looking at her. She could feel it.

Gabe smiled when his song ended and an applause from the audience replied. "Thank you," he said modestly, stepping down from the stage and walking back over toward his date who was beaming. "So?...." he asked somewhat nervously as he set his guitar back in his case. "Will you go with me to the snow ball?" he asked. This was probably the most confident he had been around Mikayla since he had met her. The combination of being able to sing his feelings instead of say them and the fact that she had already said yes to him once helped settle the boy's rambling nature and be up front. It wasn't a usual occurance for Gabe, but he was embracing it in that moment.

The song was so amazing that Mikayla was at a loss for words. She clapped enthusiastically and beamed wildly when he finished. He was so incredibly talented; how had she gotten so lucky as to have him as a friend. And then a date? In any case, she was not complaining.
"Gabe," she breathed when she heard him return to their table. "That was incredible! And why didn't you tell me you were going to perform tonight!" she blurted. When he repeated his question of asking her to the Snow Ball, she felt herself blush once again, but did not hide it this time.
"I couldn't say no after that, but I would have said yes anyway. I'd love to fo to the ball with you," she said with a beaming smile. She reached out across the table for his hand, wanting to hold it again. "You're amazing. You know that, right?" She was actually going to the ball with him! She found herself unable to drink the last few sips of her hot chocolate/coffee mix; her stomach was doing crazy flips.
ooc: MY POST SUCKS BUT IT'S YOUR FAULT FOR MAKING GABE SO PERFECT THAT MIKAYLA COULD NOT POSSIBLE MEASURE UP TO THAT

Gabe smiled, and took Mikalya's extended hand but instead of leaving it at that, he stood, and walked around the table to give her a hug and a kiss on the cheek. A few people around them 'awe'ed having witnessed the 'yes'. But Gabe ignored them. "I'm not that great," he said shaking his head. "And I didn't tell you because I wanted it to be a surprise.... and also I didn't want to get your hopes up in case I chickened out but apparently I didn't have to worry about that so much..." he laughed at himself. He simply couldn't stop smiling.

Her smile only widened when Gabe kissed her on the cheek and hugged her. She embraced him back until he pulled away, and found herself relaxing. "Well I did like the surprise, I have to say," she said, lowering her voice slightly. She knew people could hear them and that some had been listening in, considering Gabe had made the whole asking her to the ball thing very public. It was incredibly sweet, but now she hoped people were going back to their own conversations.
"I'm glad you didn't chicken out, either!" she said, sitting on the edge of her seat. Just as she did several times a day, she wished she could see him. She knew he was smiling -- she could hear it in his voice -- but she longed to see that smile, to see it in his eyes, too. The thought only saddened her, though, she she pushed it away and focused on the important things: she was going to the ball with Gabe. He was happy she had said yes. And they were on a date.
