Everett sat in the commons in front of the T.V, channel surfing as he lounged on the couch. He didn't even need the remote, which had just happened to go missing. It was probably buried in one of the couch's cushions, but it didn't matter. He could change the channel with his power over electricity. He even put it on mute, television was a lot more entertaining that way, especially when you landed on some soap opera and you could make up what they were saying by how their mouths were moving. Then again, Everett was amused by the simplest things. And this was just one of them.
Soap operas were so overly dramatic, that he made up crazy dialogues in his head to match that made him laugh. He could be doing homework, but this was much more entertaining.

Persy lounged in an overstuffed chair in the commons, sleepily reading a book. She noticed Kerry on the floor near her, playing with something. The cat had been sleeping a minute ago, but now tossed the object around, jumping and acting like a kitten. Persy smiled, and then sat up, looking at the cat more closely. She realized that the thing being dropped mercilessly on the floor was the TV remote. "Kerry, sweetie, don't do that," she said sternly. The cat looked up, all innocence, and Persy scratched her behind the ears, picking up the remote. It didn't look badly damaged, just a few tooth marks she could maybe pass of as scratched from something else. She didn't want to get in trouble for her cat destroying school property. She was still doing her best to hide Kerry's existence, anyway. Persy got a kleenex from a nearby box and wiped the floor dust off the remote. It looked okay. She walked over to the couch by the TV, one she has been facing away from in the chair, and realized that the TV was on, playing a muted drama, and there was a guy sitting on the couch. But that didn't make sense... she could swear the TV had been loud before, when she was reading, and there weren't any controls on the screen... She walked over to the guy. "Hey, my cat sort of stole your remote... though it doesn't look like you need it."

Everett looked up as he heard someone walking in his direction. It was a girl with red hair and she was holding the remote to the television. "Your cat?" He asked, somewhat confused as he turned to look behind her at the cat that was lying on the ground over by a chair. He raised an eyebrow. Pets were allowed at Spiritus? Or perhaps the cat was really just someone who could change into a cat. He didn't ask.
"Thanks, but I was doing fine without it. I don't need a remote," he shrugged, but took it from her anyway. "Maybe you should get your cat an actual toy. So she doesn't find her own." He turned his attention back to the television where some argument seemed to be going down between two of the characters. "You watch soap operas?" he asked her randomly.

"Well, I'm not actually sure if I'm allowed to have her. I have animal powers, so it's not hard to hide her from teachers and stuff," Persy replied, and then added some what defensively "and she does have toys, I just didn't bring any to the library, of all places. She looked to tired to play before." She wondered how his power worked. Could he move the parts inside the TV to make it work, or did he control the signal? Or maybe it was something else entirely...
Soap operas? Weird question to ask, she thought, but whatever. "Sometimes..." she answered," I find the acting funnier than the plot itself. I'm from Germany, and when I first saw them I thought American soap operas were just hilariously weird."

"I see. Animal powers, huh? What exactly does that mean?" Everett asked curiously and then he put up his hands in defense. "Whoa there, Red. Didn't mean to get you all fired up. I was just joking." He laughed, looking over at her cat that was on the ground. "Animals don't seem to like me very much. I think it's my electric charge." He shrugged though and turned back to the television, still watching the actor's mouths move.
"It's entertaining. And hilariously weird is a good way to put it. It's even better if you put it on mute and make up what they're saying to each other. It's a hell of a lot more interesting than what's actually happening." He grinned over at the girl.

"Well, it's sort of like being able to make animals want to do what I tell them," Persy explained. "That's really the best way I've found of putting it. It takes a lot of strength for complicated things, but it's easy to tell Kerry to hide under the bed or not wander around the dorms." She sat down next to him on the couch, leaning back into the cushions. "Is that what your power is? Electricity?" That would make sense, with the TV-controlling. She stared at screen for a minute, trying what he had suggested, and laughed. "Ha, it really is funnier that way. Never would have thought... "I say right now the girl is yelling at the guy for spilling pepper in her car, and making her ruin the makeup she was putting on while driving because she sneezed." She grinned back at him. "Oh, I'm Persy, by the way."

Everett nodded as she explained her power, looking over at her when she sat down onto the couch next to him. "You guessed it," he said with a smirk, reaching over to touch her arm, shocking her. "I constantly carry an electric charge."
He chuckled at her explanation of what was happening on the soap opera. "Well," he began. "Very good, Persy. I like you. That wasn't half bad. Anybody who can make up what people are saying in a soap opera is a person worth talking to. That's what I always say." Well...what he thought. Whatever. "And the guy just tells her that she should be happy it wasn't salt. Because that's bad luck and the car probably would have crashed, so she shouldn't worry about her precious make-up." Comedies were so much better.
"I'd offer to shake your hand, but I've already shocked you once," he said with a slight laugh. "I'm Everett."

Persy flinched slightly in surprise when he shocked her arm, but then laughed. "That's actually a pretty cool power to have. Just please, never stroke my cat, she'll hate you forever.
She laughed at his explanation, too, thinking he seemed like an easy guy to get along with. She only knew a few people here so far, mostly just the girls in her dorm, and it would be nice to make friends. "But dahling," she joked in a high falsetto, "at least my face would be pretty if they took my picture for traffic news! I'd rather *die* than be in a bad photo!" "Nice to meet you," she replied. "What grade are you in? I'm a sophomore, I just got here about a week ago, so I don't know that many people yet..."

"Yeah, it's kind of fun. I can wreck some havoc if that's what you mean," Everett said with a wink and made a mental note about her cat, even if he thought it would funny.
After her impersonation, he knew he already liked her. He'd finally turned away from the muted television to look at her and her fiery red hair with a grin. "You too, I'm a sophomore as well. I know a few people, but I mostly annoy them." He shrugged as if to say 'Oh well' because it was just his personality.

"Havoc! Great! I'll call you next time I need to demolish a building," she said jokingly. "You could probably do some awesome things though... have you tried messing with the PA system? If someone sneaked in and connected it to the radio, we could have so much fun..." she grinned. It was nice to be finally making friends in this school. "Does your power work with computers? Like, hacking and stuff?"
"You're not annoying... you have a good sense of humor and you're nice enough. I'm sure you have more friends than that." She smiled at him. "Maybe you're just underestimating yourself."

"I like how you think," Everett said with a grin. "Messing with the PA system sounds like an interesting challenge." He could have so much fun with that. Of course he'd probably get in heaps of trouble, but it'd be worth it to see everyone's faces. Then he thought about her question. "Actually, I've never tried that. I mean, I can fry a computer. I accidentally did that to my parent's desktop. They weren't happy, but other than that, I'm not sure."
He laughed. "I was just kidding anyway. I enjoy being a geek. It's fun. But thanks anyway, Pers. Means a lot to know I'm liked."
