A short silence came over the two for a moment, as Gabe led Mikayla toward the spot he liked, where they'd just be able to sit on some rocks and talk. He could listen to her talk for hours. Even if it was about school work. And Gabe hated talking about school work. Mikayla was the first girl since his ex from New York who made him feel like it was ok to ramble. Who he could sit and talk to and joke and laugh with in the way he did, and who made him smile uncontrollably just to be with them. He liked her... a lot.
Gabe didn't squint as the wind hit, as his sunglasses basically shielded his eyes. He didn't know when and if Mikayla changed the weather, but he did know she was usually fairly impervious to its effects. It could be freezing, and she wouldn't notice. She wouldn't get wet in the rain. But for whatever reason, this wind made her shiver. "Are you alright?" Gabe asked looking over to Mikayla, figuring she would know why he asked. Her face was contorted in to some bit of a frown, perhaps exuding confusion, but Gabe wasn't sure.

She clenched the fist of her hand of the arm that wasn't linked to Gabe's arm, trying to control the wind. This wasn't a controlled use of her power, and if she didn't stop it now, it was possible that it could get worse. What had caused this? Her attraction to him? Really? Was she that lame? Her entire body tensed as she strained to fight the uncontrolled wind, and it died down slightly.
Gabe speaking distracted her, however, so it only picked back up again, this time stronger as she began to stress about it. "Yeah, I'm... Sorry," she sighed, squinting her eyes closed and crinkling her forehead in concentration. She lifted her unoccupied hand and rubbed her temple as she once again focused on calming the wind. It blew frustratedly against them, causing her hair to whip against her face before she got control of it. The wind disappeared as if it had never even been blowing, and the natural crisp air of autumn returned. "Sorry," she breathed. "Lost control there for a moment. I have no idea where that came from," she added, hoping he couldn't tell she was lying. Oh, she had an idea all right. But was she going to admit it? Probably not.

Gabe held onto his glasses for a moment as the wind whipped around them - not super strong, but strong enough to make Gabe stop walking. He soon realized that it was Mikayla's doing, but she wasn't trying to. She contorted her face in concentration to make it stop. This had never happened before and he was curious to what was causing it. Mikayla hadn't really lost control like that before. "It's fine," Gabe said, still a tad confused. "Didn't you say you can loose control because of emotion?" he asked. "What kind of emotion causes wind?" He was genuinely curious. The wind had been strong, but warm. It was strange.
He continued the walk toward the rocks on the shore of the lake, and now Mikayla looked exhausted so he was happy they were close. "You look tired. We can go sit down by the shore if you want," he offered.

Mikayla's face flashed with panic at his question before she managed to calm herself down. "Um," she said, stalling by clearing her throat and running a hand through her hair, fixing it from the wind she had created. Did he really have to ask? Of course he did. Because apparently the universe was against her.
"It depends, really. I've created wind before when I was angry or sad or scared." She smiled casually, hoping the answer would be enough to satisfy his curiosity, even though it was incredibly ambiguous. "I haven't really pegged an emotion to each weather element I've caused. It's complicated, I guess."
When he suggested sitting down, she nodded. She was tired. Fighting against out of control powers was no picnic. She was not going to drop to her knees with exhaustion, but sitting down felt like a nice idea. "Yeah, that sounds good," she said, tightening her grip on his arm. To sit by the shore they would have to stray off the path, and unpaved or tiles walkways were dangerous when she couldn't see where she was facing her feet. But she trusted Gabe.

Gabe carefully led Mikayla off the path and to the shore, placing her hand on the cool smooth surface of the rocks when they got there so she knew where she could sit. He let his hand stay on hers for a moment as she sat, then pulled away in a bit of a panic realizing what he was doing. He internally cursed himself. He sat down on the rock cross legged looking out onto the large lake. He wished she could see it, because Gabe always thought the water was extremely beautiful.
Gabe shrugged, "Maybe it's something you can figure out though. I mean... that was a warm wind, and that would probably mean something different than a cold wind.... right?" he asked, honestly not sure because he didn't really know specifics about her power. He let himself begin to hover off the rock without really and completely noticing, he was really nervous so even the power he had under control was being a little wacky.

When she felt the cold rock beneath her hand, she nodded her head in thanks and sat herself down. Once she was seated, she turned her head towards Gabe, who still had his hand on hers. She began to smile slightly, then he pulled away and she pressed her lips together. Get it together, 'Kayla, she scolded herself. If her powers acted up again, she would make sure the wind grew so strong that it buried her with the rock she currently sat on. She wished he still had his hand on hers, though. She already missed his arm linked with hers. Damn. She should have refused to sit.
"Yeah, cold wind is usually bad, and the stronger it is the more out of control it is," she admitted. "Luckily that wasn't so bad. It could've just been something random..." She trailed off, and tried to think of a way to change the subject. "I really like this spot," she told him, gesturing to the area around then even though she could not see it. "It feels very nice. Quiet and calm."

"Yeah," Gabe said with a nod, "Its beautiful here. I mean... it looks beautiful, it feels beautiful, and the silence is a great quality in my book. You can't always come across that." Gabe looked down and realized he was floating a little bit higher than he meant. He muttered a few choice words to himself, and lowered back onto the rock, falling backwards with his landing. He fell back with a thud. "You know," he said staring up at the trees and toward where Mikayla was sitting. "You would think after floating around since age 5 I would have gotten some sort of a grasp on this whole landing concept," Gabe made fun of himself so easily. Though he very well realized his nerves were getting the better of him and it only made controlling himself that much harder as he began to rise up from the ground again. But he grabbed onto the side of the rock, and pulled himself to sit beside Mikayla, close enough so their shoulders and knees were just barely touching.

Mikayla tilted her head slightly to the side. His voice sounded less prominent than before. Was he actually farther away or was she just hearing things? She found herself paying more attention to that than to his words until she heard him slam onto the rock. She jumped and turned towards him, her hands reaching out until she grasped his arm. "Are you okay?" she asked, worry etched in her face. What if he had broken something? She felt him sit up and relaxed slightly, letting go of him and placing a hand on her chest. "Goodness, Gabe, you could break your back like that. You really do need to practise landing, you know. Perhaps on a softer surface than a rock or another human being," she teased, remembering how they had met. She was very aware of how close he was to her. She could feel his presence beside her as strongly as if she could see him. But she tried to ignore it. She couldn't have her powers going out of whack again.

Gabe could only laugh at himself, and rub the back of his neck awkwardly. A blush rose up to his face as she grasped his arm. She barely had to reach around for it. It was as if she knew exactly where he was even though she couldn't see him. "Yeah I really should," he agreeed with Mikayla, though falling on top of her again wasn't out of the question. He mentally hit himself for thinking that way. There was a possibility she didn't even like him back. At least not that way. Gabe began to go into a bit of panic mode as he considered this, and started to float again. "Shit..." he said, forcing himself to stand and focusing on not going up. "Alright..." he said taking a deep breath. "I'm losing some control here, and I'm taking it as a sign that I should just man up and ask you something before my nerves send me into the upper atmosphere."
He turned to look at Mikayla, and even though she couldn't look back he still managed to get about 7 times more nervous as he faced her. He froze up, and opened his mouth to speak, but no words came out, and he broke out into a cold sweat. "I uh..." he started, "We... I mean... you... we should... you know... I don't know... go... somewhere." He paused, and tried to find words again, "Together." he added, although his previous ramblings probably implied that. He was realizing that he probably made no sense, but his brain wasn't functioning properly and he was beginning to rise of the ground again.

She felt him rise up again and tilted her head slightly upwards, as if she were looking at him, her brows knitted together. When she heard what he had to say, she felt her stomach twist with anxiety. Man up? What did he have to man up about. "Well I'm listening," she said in the calmest voice she could muster.
She couldn't help the smile that tugged at her lips as he turned into the awkward Gabe that she found so endearing, and forgot the twisting in her stomach. She listened patiently as he continued to get the words out, then made a quizzical expression. "I know I'm the blind one here, but uh... We are somewhere together," she told him teasingly. She was playing dumb. She couldn't allow herself to assume that he was saying what she wanted to hear, because if he wasn't, then she would be devastated. However, she had to commend him for saying it, and as a warm breeze flew between them, picking up the fall leaves on the ground, she blurted, "The weather was - is," she corrected, "acting up because I was.... am..." She bit her lower lip, glad that it was physically impossible for her to meet his eye right now. Just say it, Mikayla, she internally coached herself, and took a shuddering breath, imagining that the oxygen she was inhaling was actually laced with confidence. "I like you," she finally said, mustering up all the boldness she had. "And if you weren't just asking me out and a storm comes out of no where, it's not from anger," she added, her words a rush as she realised what she just said. And thus began the internal freaking out.

As the words left her mouth Gabe's confidence rose, but his nerves did not subside. Because until she said yes, he wouldn't be 100% content. "I like you too... and...uh... you can't see it but I'm about ...4 feet off the ground right now so I might be a little bit broken...in more ways than one... if you reject my offer." Gabe laughed at himself slightly, and begged himself to regain control.
"So uh... yeah... I was... trying to... a date... yeah that's the word," Gabe rambled, turning awkward once more. "Friday," he added in the same fashion as before, realizing that he had left out some crucial information - or information that his brain considered crucial at the time. He calmed himself to lower himself in front of Mikayla, so they were about eye level, him sitting cross legged in the air - not wanting to land and fall on her. "So? Is it a date?" He asked with a shaky voice.

The wind picked up, fueled by her nerves, and she clenched her hands around the edge of the rock, trying to calm it and herself down. But her mind reeled. What if that wasn't what he was trying to say and she had gotten to hopeful and now she just looked like an idiot. He probably didn't like her that way. But then what had he been asking her? Maybe he just wanted to hang out not at the lake or at a time when they weren't studying. Maybe she bored him with her studying. Or maybe... As her brain reeled off multiple possibilityes -- some ridiculoudly far-fetched -- Gabe began to speak again. His voice drowned her paranoia out.
A date. He wanted to go on a date with her. An actual date. On Friday. She gaped at him, not trusting herself to speak right away. As the information sunk in, however, a huge grin lit up her face and a few things happened simultaneously.
"It's a date," she said through her grin as the wind picked up again, pushing the clouds covering the sun above out of the way and out of Cranbrook so it shone brilliantly above them. Then the wind gusted so strongly past them that Mikayla herself nearly lost her balance from her seat on the rock and her hair whipped around her face, a few strands slapping painfully against her neck as she lifted her arms to her face to protect it from the leaves the wind picked up along the way.

Gabe smiled brightly as she accepted. He wanted to laugh or yell or say something, but he couldn't. He just hovered and smiled as the words escaped her lips. He couldn't get his feet on the ground, his excitement wouldn't let him. A date. They were going on a date. She actually said YES.
And just when he mustered up the gusto to say something again, a strong breeze came from behind him and pushed him forward onto Mikayla. They both fell off of the rock, and he stopped himself from crushing her form by catching himself on his palms. However, it left his face just inches from hers, and there was no way she couldn't tell. He was close enough for her to feel his breathing. His lower body was almost completely flush against hers, legs tangled together thanks to the fall.
He sat there for a moment, just looking at her, and highly considering closing the gap between their lips. But a nervous alarm went off in his head. And instead, he could only say softly, 'We have to stop meeting like this..."

Her stomach churned with excitement. They were going on a date! On Friday! She had not forseen this, which made it even more exciting. She squinted her eyes closed when the wind she created blew at them, wanting to laugh. How ridiculous her powers were! But then she felt Gabe collide with her and she gasped in surprise when they were knocked off the rock. She was so caught by surprise that she couldn't break her fall. Luckily the ground wasn't hard and the rock wasn't that high. She lay on her back, her elbows propping her up as they were the only thing she could do to stop her back from slamming completely into the ground.
She felt his breath on her face and knew he was closer than was appropriate. Except that she didn't mind. No, not at all. Her breathing shuddered and the wind died down. In fact, the air around them stilled completely. Her heart thudded in her chest. But she didn't move. She couldn't, anyway. Gabe was practically pinning her down. She knew if she tried to get up, he would move, but... She didn't move a muscle. Until he spoke and she smiled nervously before desire took over completely. She lifted herself slightly until her lips rather clumsily found his.

Gabe tensed up for the first moment of the kiss that Mikayla planted clumsily on his lips. Gabe had always considered himself a 2nd or 3rd date kisser, but clearly Mikayla had other plans. Not that Gabriel was complaining. Her lips were soft, and the kiss was sweet. He relaxed and returned the gesture. Though it felt they sat like that for ages, the kiss only lasted a few seconds before Grabriel pulled away slowly. He looked at Mikayla through his dark lenses, and into her eyes. And for the first time it was like he was seeing something different in them, even though he knew she was blind, and that was impossible.
"Wow..." he breathed, staying just above her for a moment before realizing he was still laying on top of her. "Oh... uh..." he said, rolling off of her, and pushing himself up to his feet, "sorry... but... no... no...I'm really not," he chuckled, grabbing Mikaylas hands and pulling her to her feet. He would usually be sorry, but after it led to the kiss, he couldn't wipe the smile of his face.
