Mikayla had never kissed anyone before. Whenever she imagined her first kiss, it was always the guy she liked tucking her hair behind her ear and making her blush and then capturing her lips with his. She always imagined that as the perfect first kiss. But this one was just as good. She never took herself for a first move type of girl, but she couldn't resist when the opportunity was right there. For once she thanked her powers for doing what they wanted. They had definitely worked in her favour.
When they pulled away, Mikayla was grinning. "I think that was my fault," she admitted, accepting his help and standing up. "My powers went a little haywire there, but..." She bit her lower lip in an attempt to stifle her grin. "I kind of enjoyed the outcome." She smiled at him, but soon the smile faltered. The kiss had been what she would define as perfect, but there was one thing missing. One thing she would never be able to do. She lifted a hand to his face, her eyes sad and her expression disappointed. This would have been the perfect moment to gaze into his eyes, but she couldn't. She would never be able to. She dropped her hand to her side and lowered her head.

Gabe smiled back at Mikayla as she expressed her happiness with the situation as well. She found his face in her hand, and Gabe lifted his own to put his hand on hers. Her hand was soft, but slightly cold, and he hoped that his hands were warm enough to correct that problem. But as he took her hand in his, he could see a slight disappointment flash across Mikayla's face. She lowered her hand and her head as if attempting to hide it.
Gabe's smile melted away. He couldn't have said anything wrong. He was barely making complete sentences. "Hey..." he said softly, lifting her head back up by placing his thumb beneath her chin, and moving her face toward his. "What's wrong?" he asked, voice laced with confusion and concern. Through his mind flashed all the things she could have said. Was she changing her mind? Was the kiss horrible? Did he actually manage to offend her somehow with his stuttering?

She realised too late that Gabe would have seen every expression she had made. She plastered a smile on her face, but it was no use. What if he thought she didn't like it now? She shook her head and tried to laugh it off. "Nothing, it's fine, I promise," she told him. "I just thought of something stupid." She was supposed to be used to this. Her blindness was not supposed to get in the way this much. And yet it was. She had let it affect her. A crack of thunder was heard overhead and she flinched, lifting a hand in an attempt to hide her face. "Stupid powers," she muttered, reaching her other arm out until she found the rock, then she sat down and sighed. "I'm sorry, Gabe. I'm ruining what should be a great moment for us. Our first kiss." She shook her head, disappointed with herself. "I just... This is going to sound stupid, but..." She laughed bitterly. "I just really wish I could see you right now. Your expression. Your eyes."

"That's not stupid though..." Gabe said, slightly relieved that he hadn't done anything wrong, but also feeling slightly worse because there wasn't anything he could think to do or say that would fix it. He tried to ignore the thunder, though he did jump at first. He wanted to bring the sunshine back, and not just because he liked nice weather. He loved when Mikayla smiled.
"It's really not," he promised, "But... I'm... I'm glad," he said to Mikayla. "I mean... you like me, for me. And if you could look into my eyes," Gabe shrugged, but knew that he'd have to continue talking because Mikayla couldn't see it. "There are so many people I can't believe like me for ME. There are so many people I just... can't trust...but... you're different."

She lifted a hand to the air and waved it with a sigh. Wind blew the storm clouds she had accidentally created away so the sky was no longer grey but now overcast as it was before her powers had taken effect. "Sorry," she muttered, gesturing at the sky. "I wasn't expecting that, to be honest. It's just a thought that occured to me, and now I feel like I ruined the moment and..." She took a deep breath and smiled as she exhaled through her nose, calming herself down. "It still feels stupid, though. It's just something that is going to drive me crazy that I'll have to get used to. And like you said, your powers would start working on me if I could see you, which would..." She trailed off, her mouth set in a grim line. Ironically, their relationship probably worked because she was blind, and here she was complaining about it. The whole situation was odd.
"Ignore me, then," she said with a shake of her head. "I'm being weird."

Gabe looked at Mikayla with sad eyes. "I'm serious though, Mik..." he started. He reached up, and pushed a stray hair behind her ear. "It's selfish of me to say that I don't want you to be able to see... especially since I do. I wish you could see so I could show you the world. I mean... ever part of me wishes that I could give up my sight so you could have yours. Then maybe I wouldn't be cursed the way I am anyway... but... you can't. And... its the reason I trust you so much. It's the reason that we've become so close so easily..."
He never was able to say so many serious words at once without stuttering. He actually surprised himself. But he was happy he did. He wasn't sure if she was cheered up yet, seeing the sky still overcast. He wasn't sure if he'd be able to cheer her up completely. but he took a step forward and laid a second, short, sweet kiss on her lips. "Start smiling ok?" he asked sweetly, as he placed his hands on her shoulders, and rand them down her arms to take her hands. "Because its all good things from here on out," he promised with a charming smile.

Her skin tingled where his hand brushed it as he tucked her hair behind her ear and she couldn't help but smile. The gesture was so sweet and perfect that she had to duck her head because she knew she was blushing. At his next words, however, she felt the breath rush out of her. Apart from the fact that she was still alive, she would have been convinced her heart too had stopped. No one had ever said something quite to sweet before. She could hardly believe her ears, but there it was. "Gabe," she whispered as she lifted her head, her eyes wide with vulnerability. She felt like she could cry from the sweetness of what he had just said, but the tears never did come. Instead the grey sky above opened up as soft and perfect snowflakes drifted down from them, melting the instant they hit the ground because it was still too warm for snow. But that didn't matter. A few landed on her hair and rested there without melting, breaking through her repellent skin power. In fact, that whole part of her power melted away and she could feel the cold, but she paid it little attention as Gabe kissed her. She melted into him, wondering what on earth she had done to deserve Gabe. She did not find herself to be a bad person. She knew she was far from it, but she still did not see what could have attracted such an amazing person like Gabe to her. She supposed to was okay-looking - the image of her in her head was herself years ago. Had she grown up to be an attractive-looking female? She knew she wasn't hideous, but she dressed like every other girl at Spiritus and wore no make up because coordinating her non-uniform clothes was difficult enough without the ability to see, much less putting on make up. And she was nice enough. But what had she done to get him to say such a wonderful thing to her? She was blind. Was that all? And did it even matter? She shivered again as he ran his hands down her arms to take her hands, this time from the cold as well as from his touch. She could not help the grin that spread across her face, and the air around them warmed immediately, the falling snowflakes melting in her hair and turning to water droplets when they landed on her nose and cheeks. She had no idea what to say to him. What could she say that could match up to the things he had just said?
"Okay," she whispered, letting go of his hands and wrapping her arms tightly around him. She rested her head against his chest and closed her eyes, breathing in his scent as she did so. "I promise to smile as long as you keep saying things like that," she murmured into his chest, wishing she would never have to move from him. As far as she was concerned, the day that he had practically landed on her in the cafeteria was the best day of her life.
