Ashton's smile widened. "Great!" he exclaimed with his usual enthusiasm. "We should see that new movie that's coming out. I'm not exactly sure what it is, but I'm sure it will be good all the same. Unless you don't like movies, which is crazy, but we can always find something else." He put his hand on the desk and allowed the caterpillar to crawl off. He watched as it made its way to the stick couple. The one in the dress picked the caterpillar up in its arms and cradled it like a child, and the stick-man hugged her from behind. It was an adorable scene. "Ah, stick love," Ashton sighed, resting his elbows on the table top and his chin on his clasped hands. "So much simpler than real life."

Ashton was grinning and going on and on and meanwhile AJ was mentally kicking herself for agreeing. He was just so amicable and for some reason, her seeming lack of interest in the conversation, her poor choice in clothes and the fact that she just wasn't saying much at all weren't scaring him off. Either he didn't notice, or he didn't mind. For some reason she got the idea it was a little bit of both.
She watched the stick figures and smiled slightly at Ashton's amusement by it. He was sure right about it being simpler than real life. "I like movies, but...they don't allow for you to really talk much," she said. Honestly, if she was going to be hanging out with him, she wanted it to be somewhere where she'd have control. The seats were too close in a movie theater, so much could happen. What if they reached for popcorn at the same time? Or one of them was just shifting in their seats? Not a good idea. She wanted to go somewhere with him where she'd be able to keep her distance, so she could ensure that nothing would really happen. She'd feel horrible if she backed out of hanging out with him now, it would be some stupid excuse and he'd know she was lying.
"We could get coffee? Or something?" she suggested.

Ashton smiled enthusiastically. "Yeah, coffee's better," he agreed. "And all of the fall and winter special coffees are out. Man, I love mint," he said. "Hey, do you want to just have coffee after class? We have a lot of catching up to do! We can grab something from the caf or we can head into town. Up to you; I'm down for both." He was looking forward to hanging out with her. It was not every day you met someone for the second time! And coffee was the perfect suggestion. AJ was right; you can't catch up during a movie! People would throw popcorn at you, or you would get kicked out. Both of which Ashton had experienced, but he had only just been recently allowed back into the theatre after the bubblegum incident. He didn't want to take any chances.

AJ was so relieved that Ashton agreed to getting coffee, but was thrown by him wanting to go right away after class. She felt her stomach churn a little at the thought. When was the last time she allowed herself to go hang out with someone that wasn't Gabe? "Yeah," she agreed with a nod. "After class sounds fine. Why don't we head into town to Tim Horton's?" Her smile deceived how she really felt, which was scared out of her mind, but a pumpkin spice coffee sounded delicious right now and maybe Gabe was right and she should try to talk to people. Just maybe the guy who she lost her virginity to wasn't the way to start.

"Great," Ashton grinned. "I am now looking forward to the end of art class, for once. It's my favourite," he said, beaming around the room. "But I also love Tim Hortons and coffee and I haven't seen you in forever, so I can already tell my afternoon is going to be awesome!" His eyes fell to his stick figures, and his smile faltered slightly. They were beginning to fade. He rested his elbow on the table and his head in one hand and then gestured at them sadly. "They never do last. But at least they get to go to drawing heaven, where I'm sure they love it. They can be with the community of stick figures I've drawn in the past and party it up."

Any girl would be beaming uncontrollably if a gorgeous guy like Ashton asked to hang out with them and part of AJ wanted to smile about it, wanted to be excited. But she had to be cautious. If things even went the least bit wrong, she would leave. But Gabe was right, she had to try to do something like this, or she'd be alone, always and forever without any friends to lean on, because she pushed everyone away out of fear.
"Great," she agreed, trying to pull off as much of a smile as she could. She had only about twenty more minutes of class to try and assure herself that everything would go fine and to go over everything in her head that she needed to keep in mind so that nothing went wrong. But the memory of him, of his gorgeous smile as they talked about their project and then how the scene changed to his body on top of hers as lust took over, was embedded in her mind. And she wasn't sure how to deal with it when he was in front of her.
Instead, she tried to concentrate on the stick figures, as they faded away. It was a nice way to think about his drawings. "That's still really cool. I mean, your art actually comes to life." She looked up at him, shyly.

Soon only the caterpillar was left to crawl along the desk, as it had been drawn most recently. Soon it too would begin to fade, but there was also more detail drawn into it, prolonging its life. Ashton wanted to draw more, but he was already stifling a yawn. The days he had art class were always the more draining, because no matter what he draw, it always came to life, draining his energy when it did. Usually one art class was fine, but he had gotten up earlier that morning, feeling too restless to sleep. Since his roommates were all still asleep, he had kept himself busy by drawing. Ashton had to limit the amount of which he drew in a day, something he seriously needed to work on.
"Yeah, it's pretty awesome. It's a great power to have." He smiled and looked at her. "Hey, what's yours again? I think I forgot already." He laughed at himself. "I guess I have short term memory loss or something."

AJ watched his drawings with a small smile, still admiring his power. It seemed fun and something that you'd be proud to have. It made Ashton unique. She wished she could think the same abotu her power, but it was quite impossible.
He agreed with her and then asked her the question again, the one she only hoped he'd forgotten. He made a joke about short term memory loss and AJ shifted in her seat uncomfortably. If he only knew...
AJ hated lying, she always liked to be honest with people, but how did you just tell someone about your power when it was that she made people want to have sex with her if they touched her? It didn't provide for a very comfortable conversation. "Super speed," she blurted, making it up at random. It was the first power that came to her mind at that moment.

A lot of people had powers that often gave them trouble or that they did not even want, but Ashton had lucked out. His power was incredible, in his opinion, even though it requites his artistic talent in order to be effective. And it would be useless on a mission, in his opinion. He was sure that was why he had never been sent on one. Still, he loved it. It was a part of him and he could not think of a power that would be better suited to him.
He raised his eyebrows at AJ's power. Super speed? "Wow! How'd you find that out?" he wondered, curious. "Join the track team and realise you were beating olympic times?" He leaned forward, intrigued by her power. It was a shame they were inside. It would be fun to challenge her to a race even though he knew he would lose.

Great, now she had to answer questions. It would be so much easier if she had a normal power, one she cold actually tell people about without all of the stares. He was leaning forward, obviously interested in what she had to say and all AJ would be telling him was lies. She didn't have super speed at all and now she had to make up how she found out she had her power?
"Not exactly. Track isn't for me. I was running in gym class though and realized that I was incredibly fast compared to others." She shrugged as if it wasn't a big deal, which it wouldn't be, if she actually had that power. She felt horrible though for what she was doing, especially when Ashton had no idea about her...no idea about what her power was or how it had affected them both two years ago.

"That's probably a good thing," Ashton mused after she told him the story of how she discovered her powers. "I'm sure you would have received a lot of unwanted attention if you had discovered that power at a track meet. I--"
He was cut off by the end of class bell, and brightened. "Awesome! Classes are done for the day. How about we go get that coffee now?" he suggested, standing up and putting the chair back to where it had been before. He was never usually excited to getting out of art class, but he liked hanging out with new people. Although AJ was not necessarily new since he had known her in their freshman year, he had not gotten to know the real AJ. The one with powers.

"Yeah, I guess so," AJ agreed, although she didn't really know. She didn't have the power of super speed. She'd just told him that.
She was grateful when the bell rang though, hoping that he'd drop the subject of her power for now. "Sure, sounds good," she told him, standing up and putting her things inside her book bag. She couldn't stand working on her watercolor any longer today anyway.
She tried not to show how nervous or uneasy she was when she smiled over at him as they walked out of the classroom together.

Ashton weaved his way around a few chairs and tables until he reached the desk he had been in earlier, and scooped up his bag before shrugging it onto his shoulder. He lifted a hand to his friends and turned to face AJ, a bright smile on his face. "Ready to go?" he asked, heading towards the door after the rest of the students.
"You know what I really want now?" he said randomly to AJ. Ashton never ran out of things to say; he always had something random to fill up any quiet spaces. "A donut," he supplied without waiting for her to ask him 'what?' "The vanilla dip with sprinkles. I wonder if they still have the halloween ones or if they've brought out their Christmas coloured ones," he said thoughtfully.

AJ nodded at him from across the room, shouldering her bag. She took a deep breath before putting on a smile of her own as she followed after all of the other students and accompanied Ashton into the hallway.
Before she had the chance to ask him what it was that he wanted, he'd already answered and then he was going on about donuts. He always had something to say and AJ wondered how it was that his mind worked like that, going from subject to subject. Although she found it rather amusing, a smile playing about her lips as they walked. "Well I'm sure either way they'll have donuts," she told him with a laugh.

"They had better!" Ashton laughed. "If they don't have the one with sprinkles, I suppose the apple fritter or the chocolate glazed would not be a terrible option. Actually, the more I think about it, the more all the flavours sound amazing! My mouth is practically watering," he joked, pushing open the door that led outside and holding it open for AJ to walk through.
"What do you think you'll get?" he asked her. "Drink and food-wise. Because I totally think you should get a donut. Hey! We should get a box of a dozen donuts and just pig out. What do you think?" Some might argue that more sugar was not what Ashton needed, but he would just tell them to shove it. He couldn't say no to a donut.
