Ethan nodded, wondering how many teachers were not as strict as the ones he's heard about. Though he put that to the side as he played with the corner of a piece of paper to keep his finger occupied. "I figured it wouldn't be as strict as I've heard it would be," Ethan said, "people say things that are worse than they really are sometimes. In fact, almost anybody would say that high school is nothing but homework, when really it isn't that bad." Ethan smiled and continued to fiddle his fingers with the corner of a piece of paper. "Wouldn't you agree?"
Ethan thought for a moment, then realized that he had left it somewhere in the room. "Oh, don't have my sheet at the moment. Maybe when I get it I'll tell you? I'm just getting started on settling in and all." he said as he looked around, wondering where he even put that sheet. The room was littered with boxes and loose sheets, it could be anywhere! 'Ah well,' Ethan thought to himself, 'I'll go and print out another one later.'

"That's very true," Mikayla agreed with a nod. "People like to exaggerate. I admit I fall victim to exaggeration sometimes, meaning I exaggerate a few things," she admitted. "I think it make people feel better on the inside because they know things aren't as bad as they say. And I guess they exaggerate good things to make them even better." She shook her head. It really was a ridiculous human thing to do, but she knew she couldn't help it some times. "School isn't that bad, though. We don't get that much homework." She spent more time on her homework because she had to, but she enjoyed school, so she never complained.
"Of course," she said with a warm smile. "I guess you're still pretty busy unpacking and such," she added, feeling guilty for taking up his time. She stood up. "I can leave if you'd like to get organised. I guess I'm a bit of a keener," she said with a blush. She hoped she wasn't coming off as one of those annoying students whose goal was to be every teacher's pet.

"It does seem like a nice school," he agreed with a wider smile. He was so relaxed around her, and not once did he have an awkward moment. It was like he knew her for years at a time. "It's a beautiful school, I'll admit. I didn't think I'd be able to work in a place like this, let alone be a teacher's assistant in here." Ethan chuckled and sat back in his chair.
"Oh no, you're not taking up any time." Ethan told her as he stood up as well, in case she needed help to the door. It was weird, but he didn't want her to leave. Why? Was it because she was sweet and really helpful, or was it something else? No, he can't think that way about his student ... he can't, can he? "Do you have a class next?" Ethan finally asked, taking his mind off of her and onto the bell schedule.

"I've heard," she said with a small smile. She had never actually seen the grounds, but from what everyone said, Spiritus was one of the nicest schools, and the grounds were incredible. The garden, she had heard, was exceptional.
She hesitated. She was not sure if he was just saying that or if she should go anyway. "No, I don't have class for another hour or so," she told him. "If you're bored of unpacking, I could keep you company until then," she offered. She did not really want to leave. She enjoyed talking to him, and did not find it weird at all to be getting to know her TA. He was a person, too.

"I would love the company, if you wouldn't mind staying a little longer." Ethan said, hopefully he didn't sound to ... weird. "It would be nice to get to know at least one student better." With a smile he sat down again and leaned against his desk with his elbows. "So, tell me more about this school. How the place works and such."
Ethan was fiddling with a pen now, clicking it in and out, in and out, and vise-versa. Why did he not want her to leave? He couldn't put it into words, not even in his head. Mikayla was just ... different from the rest, he didn't know how to explain it. It was like knowing someone for many years. Why did he feel this way?

Mikayla's smile widened when Ethan told her he would like her company. "I'll stay, then," she decided, taking her seat again. "I'm not sure what you mean by your question," she admitted. "The school works like any other school. The only difference really is the power class. And students aren't allowed to use their power on other students unless given permission. Most of us cannot completely control our powers, so there are a lot of incidents, but nothing the school cannot handle," she assured him. "We all have to be in uniform during classes, but that's it, really. Just like any other school."
For once she didn't want to talk about school. She wanted to talk about him. "So what made you want to teach?" she asked him. "And why here? You have a power, right?" She was curious as to what it is, but she realised she was flinging questions at him, and bit her lip so she would stop talking.

"I thought it'd be a little different, considering that this is a power school and all." Ethan told her with a soft smile. "Well, it should be no different than what I had for high school." It shouldn't be no different. This place already looked like a regular school, with uniforms and a regular bell schedule. It'll be easier to be a teacher's assistant now that he knows that he doesn't have to act all super hero like, which was good because the power to heal wasn't exactly an amazing power to most teens now.
"Oh yes," Ethan nodded and smiled. "I have the power to heal wounds." He thought for a moment, wondering if he should tell her the side effect, but it didn't seem important at the time. He thought about her first question, then finally answered,"Why I wanted to become a teacher? I've always admired teachers who were cool and always open to talk to student, and I've always wanted to be like that."

"Wow," Mikayla breathed, completely fascinated by his power. She did not know of any students who could heal. "That must be really useful! Is it just your wounds that you can heal, or can you heal anyone?" Injuries happened so often, from papercuts to broken bones. She envied him slightly for having the ability to heal like that. Of course, she would never trade her powers in. Even though they were a bit of a nuisance sometimes, they were a part of her now.
"Well you're doing a great job so far," she assured him, offering him another friendly smile. "Any other teacher might have told me they were busy and that they would see me in class, but you're taking time out of your day to talk to me. That's pretty great." She wondered what his office would look like when he finished unpacking and arranging. Was he a books guy? Or was he into sports? Should she imagine bookcases stacked with academic titles or trophy cases highlighting his teenage years? She decided just to ask.
"So what do you do other than teach? I mean, are you into sports or anything?" she asked, curious.

Ethan could hear the fascination in her voice and he chuckled lightly. He listened to her question, then thought for a moment before answering. "I can heal broken bones, but I rarely do." he told her softly. "It's because whomever I heal, I end up feeling their pain." It really sucked that he had to feel the pain of healing another. Although, it was to good to be true anyway. Every power had some flaw to it, and that was his. Ethan wondered if he should ask about her power, and so he did, hoping he didn't seem to nosy. "What about you? What can you do?"
"Why thank you," he thanked with a smile. Was he really a good teacher? He must be. Being complimented like that by a student he just met means a lot. He was on the right track to being the type of teacher that he always wanted to be.
"Well, I usually run in the mornings, but no I'm not much for sports." Ethan told her with a smile. "I'm more of a book person to be honest." Did he sound too boring? He thought so, but he didn't make note of it. He was what he was, and everything he said was the truth. Besides, lying about some things would mean changing himself, and he didn't want that. Ethan stayed true to who he was, and didn't really care that he sounded like an average teacher.

Mikayla gasped audibly, genuinely shocked at the cost of his powers. "That's terrible!" She couldn't imagine taking another's pain so willingly. Why would he be blessed with such an amazing power, but cursed with such a terrible side-effect? Her heart reached out for him. "Can you heal things that don't cause pain?" she wondered. "Like what if someone had an illness that didn't cause them pain? Would you feel their discomfort? Or are your powers strictly for healing injuries and not illnesses?" She could not help the questions flying from her lips. She was curious, and the only way to obtain an answer was to ask. "And does the pain only last while you heal them?"
She glanced towards the window. Because of her powers, she could sense where outside was. Where weather happened. "Oh, um. I can control the weather," she told him. "I'm not the greatest at it. It's strongest when I'm feeling a particular emotion and sometimes I can't help but create a thunder storm or some rain or high winds, but I'm getting a lot better at controlling it, and I could make it snow right now if I wanted to. It's really tiring, though." Every power came with a cost, it was true. But at least hers did not cause her physical pain. Maybe it did if she used too much of it. She did not know. But she felt kind of guilty that her only side-effect was tiredness.
"You like books? What do you like to read?" she asked, leaning forward slightly on the desk. "I like to read as well. Mostly textbooks, but there are some great fiction titles out there I pick up when I have the time."

Ethan thought of her questions, unsure if he actually could heal illnesses. He never tried, ever. "Well, I've actually never tried to cure an illness before ..." he began to say, "but even if I could I'd probably still feel how horrible it is. No illness isn't painful. Even something like cancer still hurts in some form or another. Aand I'm rambling useless facts again aren't I?" He chuckled and shifted in his chair as he ran a hand through his hair.
Ethan smiled when she said that she could control the weather. Now that, in his opinion, was a cool power. "So," he began to ask, "if you wanted it to be sunny and it was pouring rain, you could stop the rain and make the sun shine?" It was a stupid question, he realized this, but he just wanted to make idle conversation, really. A reason to keep speaking with her.

"No, no," Mikayla said, waving a dismissive hand at him. "I'm really intrigued by your power. It sounds amazing. But one of those too good to be true ones. It's a shame it comes with an effect that causes you that much harm," she added with a worried frown. "A power that could help a lot of people would be fantastic, but if it brings you harm, I would not blame you for not using it often." If she tried hard enough, she could counter a hurricane, but it would not last for long and it would leave her bedridden with exhaustion for days.
"I can make the rain stop so the sun comes out, yes," she said with a small smile. "For that it works best when I am in a calm mood. If I get too emotional for any reason, my powers become less easy to control. For example," she explained, "If I were really sad and I was trying to bring out the sun, I would only cause it to rain more. The weather certainly isn't easy to control. My powers like to have a mind of their own, but..." She gestured to outside and concentrated, using her powers to pull at the cold air outside until a few flakes of snow fell past the window. She could not see it, but she could feel them.

"I will have to look into on what I can do with this power, though," Ethan told her with a smile. "You've peaked my interests on it. It would be nice to heal illnesses." He smiled some and shifted in his chair again. "I do use my powers in emergencies though, like when someone gets shot, or gets stabbed, or something similar to that." The memory of his sister's near death came back to slap him in the face. That night was a horrible, horrible night. Luckily he was able to heal her before she died right in front of him.
Ethan looked out the window and stood up and walked to the window, which was next to Mikayla's chair. "Stunning ..." he whispered as he smiled down at Mikayla. "I'd say, from experiencing this, that what you have is a magnificent power indeed." He nodded and looked back out the window. "Wow, snow in the early fall. Not something you see everyday hmm?"

"Still, it must be painful," she mused. "I suppose it is worth it though, isn't it? A few moments of extreme pain to save someone's life? That's pretty incredible." She smiled at the satisfaction she imagined him to feel after moments like that. To use a power for such good must be amazing. She envied it slightly. What good were her powers for except adding a bit of sunshine to a crappy day or some rain during a drought? Still, she knew the little things counted in life, too.
"I bet whoever is outside right now is cursing the weather for this unexpected snow," she said with a grim smile. "Aka cursing me." Still, she did not make it stop. A few pretty flakes of the white snow would harm no one, and the ground was cold enough for any of it to stick. She remembered what it was like to see the few snowfall of the year. It was always a peaceful sight. She smiled at the memory and stood to stand with Ethan by the window, wanting to be closer to her snowflakes as well as feeling awkward sitting while he was standing behind her. As she stood, she midjudged where the chair was and her foot wrapped around one chair leg. As she took a step forward, the chair got in the way and she lost her balance, tipping forward with a startled shriek towards the windowsill she could not see.

"It is, and I am proud to have a power that is able to save a life." Ethan admitted to her as he looked out the window and watched the snowflakes fall onto the brightly multicolored leaves. "Even if it hurts, it's a better price than someone's life." This motto he followed with his powers. Pain is a better price than someone's life because it was true. Even if it hurt like a bitch, you'll feel like a hero for saving someone's daughter or lover.
Ethan smiled and nodded lightly. "It is really beautiful though." he said to her. As he went to turn towards her, she landed straight on his chest (XD XD). He held her up by wrapping his arms around her gently. Ethan let out a blush and he chuckled some. "Are you all right, Mikayla?" His tone was somewhat a concerned one, for she could'v landed on her face or twisted her ankle or ... or ... Ethan lifted her up and didn't let go until he knew that she wasn't going to fall over. "What happened?" he asked her softly.
