Corey wasn't too particularly fond of the 'No Using Your Powers in Public Rule'. How could he NOT use his powers? It was fall, and it was getting easier to use ice again. He was itching to practice. When he go to the lake, it was completely empty, perfect.
He bent down and touched the water, and slowly, the ice formed beneath his finger, and spread out. He smiled, seeing that it working just as well as last Spring. He calmly walked onto the ice, and whistled a bit.
He nearly broke the ice sheet he created, when he heard some kid yelling behind him. Corey turned around, aggravated that somebody had ruined his perfect creation in the making.

Dakota had been out for a run, clearing his head. It was something that helped him, especially since he hadn't played sports in the longest time because he was so afraid of what his power would do. Running was simple and he felt in control, something that he rarely felt anymore.
He went by the lake in the town as he always did, when something caught his eye and tempted him to pull his headphones out of his ears, to stop the music blasting through them that he was running to.
"Hey!" he shouted at the guy, who was walking out onto a sheet of ice on the lake. That didn't make any sense! It was only September and it wasn't horribly cold out. The lake couldn't be frozen. This had to be somebody from Spiritus. He didn't look like he was from Veritas. He would have seemed familiar. "You're not supposed to use your powers in public!" His eyes darted around for people. Was this guy insane?

He calmly slided across the ice, and onto the crisp, frost covered grass, "and you're not supposed to talk about it in public." Who did this loser think this he was? Corey could, and would use his powers anytime he'd like.
"Aren't you just high and mighty, telling me what do. Okay, Veritas boy. What can YOU do?" It was probably something lame. It takes a certain person to possess terrible powers, and Dakota seemed like that guy.
He shot some ice around his feet. "Show me what you've gone." Picking on this kid seemed like the proper trade for ruining Corey's fun.

Sure, Dakota was talking about powers in public, but this guy was using them and that was another thing completely. He was only warning the guy, but now he was being a jerk about it and acting as if he was superior because he attended Spiritus. Yeah, right. At least Dakota didn't have to wear a uniform.
He could tell the guy what he could do, but he didn't like to tell people that. He especially didn't like to use his ability. He still didn't have the greatest control over it and he was afraid of damage he could do. Fire wasn't harmless. And he could do some real damage to somebody if he wasn't careful.
He could just walk away, but that would mean letting this guy win and that just made Dakota seem like a coward. He didn't have time to move anyway because in moments his feet were frozen to the ground, ice coated around his sneakers.
He looked up at the guy, glowering at him. He could wait for the ice to melt, but that would take forever. Or he could use just a little fire to get him out of this mess---no. He wouldn't. He couldn't stoop to this guy's level. That and he didn't want to use his power even if it would shut him up.
"I don't use my power in public. Something you could learn to do."

"What's wrong? Are your powers useless, or maybe it's just you? Or worse, maybe you can't even use your powers." That idea made Corey laugh like mad. He couldn't even imagine not being able to use his powers. Sure back in California, he couldn't use them for obvious reasons, but there's nothing to stop him up here, especially since Winter was coming up.
Corey had to feel sorry for the guy, but only a little. How lame must it be to not use your powers? What if he didn't have powers? No, that didn't make sense. He couldn't go to school if he didn't have.

"My powers aren't useless," Dakota shot back again, feeling the anger rise inside of him. It ignited like a flame, spreading throughout his body, making him want to show this guy a thing or two about his power. He clenched his fists at his sides, trying to fight the anger, looking down at his shoes frozen to the ground. "I'm not useless. I have a power. I just follow the rules."
God, he wanted to wipe the smirk off of his face. Stuck up Spiritus. That's all he was. And he couldn't let the guy get to him. He couldn't. He kept repeating this in his head.

"Then what are you waiting for, hit me with your best shot." Corey was now genuinely curious about what Dakota could do. Whatever it was, it was clear he was holding it back. How long would Corey have to prod him before he would let it loose. If Dakota wasn't even going to bother to show him anything cool, then Corey was just going to leave him stuck in the ice. "I know you want to. Just let me at it." Whatever his power was, he would probably suck at battling. He just had that wussy feel about him. Chances were, Corey, and his ice would be superior.

This guy was just taunting him and honestly Dakota wanted to show him up, but he was afraid. He didn't have that great of control over his power, not like he hoped and it didn't help that he wasn't that confident about it, but anger and annoyance were overcoming him and he was about to crack, about to summon up the fire he buried inside.
He gave the guy the biggest glare he could muster before concentrating on his shoes and the ice that surrounded them. He held out a shaky hand and felt the power course through him, the heat radiating until a flame was in his hand.
Please don't melt my shoes. Please don't melt my shoes. he repeated over and over, only grateful that his fire couldn't harm him. He melted the ice that froze him to the ground with precision before facing the guy again and moving the fire around in his hands. "I do have a power. And guess what? Fire melts ice."
He extended his arm forward, sending a fire ball whirling at Corey, releasing it also with the breath he'd been holding in.

Corey grinned, seeing Dakota was finally loosing up. He opened his mouth, and blew an icy wind which took out the flame midway in it's path. "Wrong. Fire, and ice cancel each other, creating water. Now it's just a matter, of who's powers are stronger. And you shook just melting yourself out of there, and I have no problem using mine. I think we all know how this will end." Corey boomed, stroking his own ego.
Putting his left foot forward, and his arms clenched up close to his body, he took a deep breath, creating another icy wind, this time powerful enough to reach Dakota.

Honestly, Dakota was just glad he'd done that much. He knew his power was strong. There was no question about that, it was the hesitant nature of the one who wielded it that made him nervous, but this guy had way too much of an ego and he could only face him head on, forgetting that they were in public where it was forbidden to use their powers. His anger and will to show up Corey had taken over.
He had to make a decision quick as a frosty wind headed in his direction and he quickly held out both hands manifesting a flame and using it to block the icy wind that was sent his way. The ice melted into water and fell to the ground before him.
He took a deep breath. He had to find confidence and fast, or he'd be done for.

Corey took a step towards the lake, and murmered, "I have a huge suply of ammo, assuming I get too tired to create it myself. But when he runs out? He'll have nothing left." Corey smirked, enjoying his brilliant plan. Corey raised his arms over the water, and created thin, sharp, icicles. He spun, and sent them flying at Dakota.
Usually, he would be afraid of a guy who could wield fire, but this guy seemed almost afraid of his own powers. The wuss would need to step it up if he wanted even a sliver of a chance to defeat Corey

If Dakota would have been smart, he would have walked away. Corey had the advantage here, being near a lake. He had access to his element while Dakota strictly had to create his own fire to use which could become tiring. He realized this, but unfortunately too late when icicles were flying in his direction and he had no choice but to fight back. He was in the middle of this now.
The icicles rained down around him, and Dakota tried to gain grasp on his powers, managing to melt most of the icicles with a flame in his hand, but failing to stop a few that pierced his skin, the ice like daggers. But he ignored it, concentrating on the flame and making it bigger.
He was still afraid of hurting the guy with his fire when it got out of control and he hated that he was because he was such an ass, but Dakota did have a conscience. He needed to step it up or he'd regret it.

This time, the ice had reached its target, and had pierced his skin. Corey wasn't actually expecting it to hit, only to slow him down. Sure, he wanted to teach Dakota a lesson, but he didn't actually want to HURT the bastard. Corey would seem like a wuss for stopping now, and asking if the guy was alright. All he could now was finish it, or at least wait until Dakota finally gave in.
Corey went back to the icy winds again, to see if he could just know him over. He took as big of a breath as he could, and fired all his wind at the guy.

Dakota ignored the stinging on his arm and concentrated on the flame, willing it to get larger. If he didn't put up a fight he would be done for in a second. He couldn't just give in. Losing was better than giving up. If he lost, at least he'd tried. But Corey was all too confident and that could be a weakness if Dakota played it right. Maybe he'd think he was so good that he wouldn't expect anything remarkable from Dakota.
He held out his hands to stop the icy wind, the fire he wielded melting it and released the flames forward towards Corey, a look somewhere between determination and fear on his face.

Corey almost pitied Dakota. He looked terrified as he sent that blast over. Too bad Corey couldn't use water, or at least not use water well. It was more to get rid of fire with ice, then it would be with water. Corey wasn't complaining though. He still had full confidence that he would win.
Corey dropped the ground, and let the fire blast go over his head, and fizzle out. He then created a large lump of ice underneath him, and slid down the hill, straight towards Dakota. As he slid, he sent an icy wind again. He continued to slide straight towards Dakota, not afraid for a head on collusion.
