Phoenix is sitting in the back of the public library, a book on cryptozoology in front of him. He's reading an in-depth article on the wendigo. It's a creature he finds fascinating, although he would never want to meet one while lurking in the forest. That wouldn't exactly end well for him.
He chuckles to himself as he flips the page, his eyes roaming over the words, absorbing them and storing them away, just in case he might ever need them. It seemed unlikely, but after discovering there were others like him, with what could be considered supernatural abilities, he wouldn't be surprised if the legends and myths were true.
Movement off to the left side of his chair catches his eye. Phoenix glances up, wondering who could possibly be lurking back here in the shadows of the library besides him. No one ever comes back this way. It's why he likes it; he can be alone and read in peace.
"I guess there's a first for everything," he mutters, eyeing the student warily.

Andie didn't very much enjoy being in the library, but she was looking for a certain book for class. That's really the only reason she was here, but it wasn't hard to find when you had luck on your side. She didn't even have to ask a librarian for help. It was as if she knew exactly where the book was when she walked in the library and instantly plucked it off of the shelf. It was for her English class, a book on classic Greek mythology. At least she found the subject interesting compared to others. If she had to read Romeo and Juliet one more time, she might just have to give the teacher some bad luck.
Once she found it, she walked to the back of the library, a bounce in her step as she looked for a spot with not a lot of people around. She'd be more likely to concentrate on her assignment and not pull out her deck of cards and challenge a bunch of students to an impromptu game if she did.
She sighed and plopped down on a couch, opening the book as she felt someone's eyes on her. She raised an eyebrow at him as he almost looked annoyed. "Is this part of the library reserved?" she asked him, speaking probably a bit too loud for a library and being shushed by a librarian, to which she rolled her eyes.
It was a guy who looked as if he'd been immersed in a book, with dark hair and a broody mood about him.

Phoenix continued to watch the girl, noticing she seemed a bit too...happy. He made a face, but quickly rearranged his expression when she caught him looking at her. He shook his head when she spoke, trying not to smirk when the librarian told her to quiet down.
"No, it's not reserved," he told her, turning his attention back to his book. "But it's not exactly a bustling hub of activity back here, either. I prefer it because I can be left alone. I can have peace and quiet. Just the way I like it. Know what I'm saying?"

"What? You're looking at me as if I'm foreign species," Andie told him, crossing her arms firmly across her chest after setting the book in her lap. "Yeah, I get it, but I'm not moving." Okay, so she was being stubborn about it, but this guy seemed so dark and broody, wanting to be on his own. Disrupting him would do him some good.
"If I stay back here, I'll actually read. And it's not like I'm going to be loud or disrupting or anything." But she'd said it too loudly and it only got her a glare from the librarian again.

Phoenix scoffed and rolled his eyes. He thought about making a snide comment about being a foreign species, but decided against it. He really didn't want to fight with anyone, especially not at the public library. This was one place he could come to sit and relax and be left alone, and he didn't want to ruin his chances of being allowed back here.
"Fine, stay here," he muttered, shaking his head. He scowled and brushed his hair out of his face, then turned his attention back to his book. He tried to focus on the words, but thoughts of the girl kept invading his mind. She was more distracting than he'd expected.
Sighing, Phoenix glanced up, feeling frustrated as he asked, "What are you reading, anyway?"
