General Info
Veritas Academy is a school for those with exceptional powers. All their students are sent a formal invitation for them to attend the Academy for their highschools years (grades 9 through 12). They are much more lenient with rules but there is a line that they will not tolerate being crossed. All students who accept the invitation to attend the school are required to take normal high school classes as well as a class that will help them to properly control and use their special powers or abilities.
In their Special Powers classes, they will learn how to harness their powers and use them for good. Throughout the year, students will be sent on missions where they will put their practised powers to work in real life situations.
Your Headmistress: Ms. Amanda Brookes, 42, will be your Headmistress should you choose to attend Veritas Academy. She is strict but fair. Therefore, only those who deserve to be punished shall be, and their punishment will be suitable to the crime they committed.
Rules
* Students are to remember that Veritas Academy is a school for students with abnormal but special powers, but only the students and their closest family are to know of this. When visiting the nearby town or anywhere outside of the school, they are to keep a low profile and are FORBIDDEN to use their powers in front of a human.
* Your powers are only to be used to help others. Any student abusing their gifts are to be reported immediately to a teacher and will be taken to the Headmistress where they will be punished.
* No swearing, no fighting, no bullying.
* Do not miss any classes without a legitimate reason. If you are sick or have an emergency, you must get a note written up that must be delivered to the teacher(s) of the class(es) you missed. Without a legitimate reason, you will receive detention
*Regarding detentions: If you are given a detention, you are required to attend it. NO EXCUSES.
*Students are free to visit the nearby town on weekends, holidays, and after class. If you are on a spare (a period where you have no class), you are not allowed to visit the village. ONLY once ALL classes for the day are complete. Also, breakfast and lunch hour visitations to the town are prohibited, BUT you may go there for dinner.
* PDA (Public Displays of Affection) are to be kept to a minimum and are forbidden in classes. Should a teacher judge that anyone if carrying on too far with their displays of affection, they will be asked to stop or given a detention. Should it continue, a meeting with the Headmistress will be scheduled.
* As it remains, any acts of sexual intercourse is FORBIDDEN on school grounds. What you do outside of the school is strictly your problem. If you have any questions regarding this rule, you can approach a teacher or the Headmistress. Pamphlets with warnings and cautions are available if one should need to read them.
* Regarding the last rule, EVERYONE MUST FOLLOW THE LAWS OF THE COUNTRY AND THE PROVINCE AND THE TOWN. Any laws of that status that are broken are taken out of our hands and there is little the school can do to help you. We would probably expel you anyways and forbid you from using your powers.
* Therefore, of course, no one in the Academy should be drinking or smoking (any substance) and no drugs but those of pharmaceutical matters should be in your posession. All drugs must be accounted for by the school nurse.
Veritas Classes
English: English is taught by Mr. Carter, and old but well-read teacher. It is mandatory for everyone to take this class every year.
Mathematics: Mrs. Cross teaches this class. She's strict if you don't do your homework, but always willing to give extra help if you need it. It is mandatory for everyone to take this class in grades 9-11. Grade 12 is optional, but highly recommended.
German/French: These classes are taught by Miss Schwartz. She is very enthusiastic and teaches more than just the language. (French is mandatory in grade 9.)
Spanish/Italian: These classes are optional and are taught by Mr. Collins. He is young (early 30's) but has lived in both Argentina and Italy. You could learn a lot from his classes.
Biology: Mandatory until grade 11. It is optional to take in grade 12, but if not taken, Physics and Chemistry must be taken instead (at least two science courses must be taken in the 12th grade at Veritas). Mr. Warner teaches this class and does not allow tardiness to the extreme.
Chemistry: Mandatory until grade 11. It is optional to take in grade 12, but if not taken, Physics and Biology must be taken instead (at least two science courses must be taken in the 12th grade at Veritas). This class is taught by Mr. Drake and bags are not allowed in class for safety reasons.
Physics: Mandatory until grade 11. It is optional to take in grade 12, but if not taken, Biology and Chemistry must be taken instead (at least two science courses must be taken in the 12th grade at Veritas). Mrs. Simon, though passed the age of retiring (she is 66 years old) instructs this class. She has a slight monotone, but teaches in a way that even a 12 year old can understand. However, she is very easy to get by and is, well, a pushover.
Special Powers: This class is mandatory all year 'round. Mr. Venice teaches this class and he certainly knows what he is doing. And he doesn't take crap from anyone.
Students also have the option to take any art course, including Visual (taught by English teacher, Mr Carter), Dramatic (taught by language teacher Mr Collins), or musical (taught by Ms Brookes, aka the Headmistress).
About the Dormitories
*Location: The boys' dorms are located on one side of the building looking over the lake, while the girls' dorms are on the exact opposite side of the school. This was made to enforce the rule that males and females are not allowed in each others' dormitories.
*Includes: Each dormitory includes one single bed per student (three students to a room), one chest of drawers per student, one large closet, one desk and chair per student, at least one window over-looking the grounds, and a floor-length mirror fixed to the back of the wooden door. The floors are wooden for easier cleanup and match the door.
*Other Information: On each floor there are two multi-person bathrooms (one on one side of the dormitory hallway and the other on the opposite side) with toilets on one side, step-in showers with curtains on the other, and sinks dividing the middle. Mirrors are fixed over the sinks.
*Dormitory Advisers: The boys' dorms will be looked after Mr. Tongs (also the Soccer coach). If they have any questions or issues, his room is on the first floor of the boys' dorms at the bottom of the stairs. All he asks is that, when he comes every Sunday afternoon to inspect the rooms, the boys keep them clean so he doesn't have to check them again an hour later.
The girls' dorms will be looked after by Miss Robbins (also the Swim Team coach). If they have any questions or issues, her room is on the first floor of the girls dorms at the bottom of the stairs. Once a week (every Sunday afternoon), she inspects the dorms to ensure that they are being kept clean. If they are not to her satisfaction (which can be quite high), she will come back an hour later, giving the students time to re-clean, and if at that point they are not clean, the students will have to clean one of the bathrooms on the floor.
School Teams
Both school teams go against the Spiritus Academy school teams for a championship cup given out at the end of each season.
*Soccer Team: The Veritas Soccer Team meets several days a week (mostly Saturdays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays in the afternoon, and some Friday mornings). The team is coached by Mr. Tongs and practises are always held outside, rain or shine. The soccer uniform is black soccer shorts or pants with red numbers on the front right leg, and red and orange striped soccer shirts with black numbers and player names on the back. Of course, soccer cleats are required and no powers except pure soccer skill are allowed on the pitch. The Veritas Soccer Team are not the best team out there, as the Spiritus Soccer Team have beaten them about ... nearly every single game they've played. But good luck this year!
*Swim Team: The Veritas Swim Team meets every Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Saturday morning at 7:00 am sharp in the school Gym by the swimming pool. They are met there by their swim coach, Miss Robbins. There is no captain, of course, but if Miss Robbins could, she would jump in the pool with the students and take that position. She is very passionate about the swim team. The swim team uniform simply consists of an orange one piece swim suit with red trim and a red swim cap for the girls, and orange swim trunks for the boys. Both males and females wear red swim goggles and no one is permitted to use their powers in competitions or practise. The Veritas Swim Team has won the past countless championships against the Spiritus Swim Team. Keep it up, Veritas!
*Cheer Team: Veritas Academy has a cheerleading team, yes. Complete with their red and orange uniforms (pants for the guys, skirts for the girls), they attend all school team games to sit on the sidelines, cheering the teams on! Miss Schwartz, who also triples as the French and German teacher, coaches this team. RA RA RA! Nah, we aren't that lame.
