"At least you know my fire will always outdo yours," Gavin pointed out. Some foolish people seemed to think different and then they paid for it.
He raised an eyebrow at her. "You don't know?" He found it amusing and let a brief chuckle pass his lips. "My power," he said simply, a smirk playing about his lips. "I'm dangerous." He said it jokingly, even if he really knew that he was and others knew it as well.
"Don't make bets you're not willing to follow up on, Morgan," he warned her, his eyes an icy blue. "Have you seen my relay times?" He was fast, the fastest on his team, but that didn't make them any faster. Aura had something about her, she seemed fascinated by the very idea of him.

Aura rolled her eyes at his cocky attitude. Some people found arrogance to be annoying, but she was intrigued by it. She could almost understand it, even though she usually lived her life blending into the backgrounds.
"You're not really telling me much, here. A lot of people have dangerous powers," she reminded him, but her curiosity was piqued. "What is your power?" she asked, only vaguely aware that the question might be returned to her. She was not much of a fan of talking about hers.
"Your time might be fast, but I've never competed against you," she said. "So I wouldn't really know." As much as she had taken notice of him at competitions, when she was competing, she was in the zone and focused on what she had to do. She didn't pay attention to anyone else's scores unless they were in her category.

"Paralysis," Gavin stated. "And I'm sure you don't want a demonstration. So going back to what we were talking about earlier, I could drown you quite easily no matter how good of a swimmer you are because I could make you unable to move." He had a smug look on his face, knowing that most didn't try to pick fights with him because of this and those who did only got a taste of his power.
"Then maybe we should compete sometime," he suggested. "Even if it's not at a meet." They could have their own competition.
He stretched out, floating on his back again. "It's too bad you're here. I was hoping I wouldn't have to wear swim trunks." It was so much easier to swim with nothing holding you back.

Aura raised her eyebrows and stayed silent while she took in his words. "Wow," she said finally. "That's quite a power. No wonder people are scared of you. You could win no matter what. Impressive," she said, nodding slowly. Anyone would be powerless against him. Still, she did not feel fearful. She knew she should, but if he was going to hurt her, he probably would have done so already. She wondered if that was yet another effect of her powers, or if she was just too intrigued by him. Either way, neither option was healthy.
"Is that a challenge, then?" she asked, moving slightly closer to shore until the sand was at a level in which she could stand with her head still above water. The surface lapped at her jaw line. She felt the water tug at her ponytail, which dipped into the lake, weighed down by the water her hair held. "Because I wouldn't mind a race. Er, just not right now." She did not want to risk racing him when she was swimsuitless. What if they swam too close or she flashed a boob while side-stroking?
When he mentioned swimming without his trunks, her eyes automatically went to the area his trunks shielded. She caught herself and looked down at the water, searching for something to say to distract herself from the mental image he had given her. "You swim naked too, huh?" she blurted.

"Yeah I guess they have a good reason to be scared. They're not just a bunch of pussies." Gavin shook his head, laughing slightly at how a lot of people tried to either stay out of his way or wouldn't leave him alone. Some people were just too intrigued. Aura seemed to fit in this category, but he didn't have a reason to hurt her, nor did she seem afraid, which was interesting in itself. "You haven't heard things about me? The rumors get quite interesting."
"Of course it's a challenge," he said with a smirk as she moved away from him towards the shore. "I'm definitely game, but why aren't you up for a race now?" He wondered as she looked back at him, at one point looking down at the water, before she posed a question.
It didn't take him long to put two and two together, Gavin was perceptive and well, not completely stupid. He burst out in laughter. "That's why you wouldn't let me get near you." The realization was too hilarious. "Thought you'd be alone, huh? Risky." Now his gaze couldn't help but travel down to what the water concealed. He grinned. "That's the best way to swim."

"I've heard rumours, but not to do with your powers," Aura admitted. And most people did not have anything nice to say about the captain of the Spiritus Swim Team. "Most of what I've heard had to do with your personality, but I'm not one to gossip."
She pursed her lips together when she realised what she had just told him. If he could put things together, and she figured she was unfortunate enough that he would, he would realise her clothes were on shore and all that was hiding her bare body was the darkness of the night and the water. She felt her face heat up when he laughed, and folded her arms over her chest even though she doubted he could see anything. Having him know made her feel even more bare, especially when she saw his eyes travel to the water line that hid her from his view. "It is the best way to swim," she said, lifting her chin slightly. "It's more freeing. And it's dark, and I thought that yes, I'd be alone. Besides, it not like you can see anything," she added, keeping her voice steady. "And," she said boldly, "it's not like if you were to ditch the trunks that I'd see anything." She raised her eyebrows challengingly and dropped her arms.

"Oh really? Well, I guess my personality and my power go hand in hand," Gavin said, smirking. He knew people talked about him. Who wouldn't? He was well known, had a dangerous power, went to Spiritus and was captain of the swim team?
He was all too amused at her mistake of letting him know that she was bare. She crossed her arms over her chest when he'd started laughing and he only stopped to look at her. "Did I make you uncomfortable?"
But it didn't take long for her to recover, and agree that it was best to swim nude, with nothing to slow you down. The feeling of water against your skin was the best feeling ever. "I mean, we shower naked, why don't we swim naked? Oh right, society." He laughed again. "Maybe I can't see anything. Bet you're glad my power isn't night vision." This situation was all too amusing to him and as she made her last bold remark, he took it as a challenge, grinning at her.
"True, I guess you wouldn't." He reached down and pulled his swim trunks down quickly, lifting them out of the water and tossing them onto the shore, watching as they landed on the sand. "That's better," he said, looking back at her.

If he was comparing his personality to his power and calling them similar, then anyone smart might take that as a red flag. His power was dangerous and so was he. So why was Aura not even considering excusing herself from the conversation and swimming away? A part of her would like to think she was trusting. A part of her was trusting. But a part of her was also slowly becoming darker, and that part of her couldn't care less if some people considered Gavin to be going down a darker path than most would prefer. That part of her said 'So what if he enjoyed his power and possibly terrorizing people?' No big deal. That part of her wanted in. Except Aura was not yet aware of that part. It had not completely surfaced. And when it did, she would have to fight or embrace it. If she could fight it, anyway. If she even wanted to. If it would let her.
"You have a point," she said quietly as he compared swimming to showering. She didn't say much else. The fact that he was taking off his swim trunks was very distracting. Even though she couldn't see anything, just knowing now that he too was bare beneath the surface was enough. Her eyes lingered on the rippling surface that shielded him from view before lifting her gaze to meet his eyes. "Guess I've nothing to be uncomfortable about now," she said. "Now that I'm not the only one skinny dipping out here."

Gavin wondered why Aura was still here and talking to him. He didn't drive her away, but rather pulled her in. He wondered how that was. He knew he was naturally charismatic and some people liked the thought of danger, but she didn't seem to be wary or cautious of him at all. He wondered what was keeping her there. Fascination? Or was she like him as well?
"Guess you don't. Unless of course, I make you uncomfortable." He smirked at her. "Now how about that race, Morgan?" He couldn't very much keep himself from staring at her, and yearning to see what more there was, where her body curved. The body of a swimmer was something to be marveled and he didn't hide the fact that he very much wanted to take in the sight of Aura's body.

She squinted her eyes at him ever so slightly and shook her head. "If I was uncomfortable, I wouldn't still be here," she said simply, running her hand along the surface of the water between them, watching the ripples as they faded further away.
She considered the race now idea. Before she wasn't for it because she was swimsuit-less, but now Gavin was as well. And if they were racing, he wouldn't be able to see her bare body. "All right," she decided with a smile. "I'm bored of just standing here anyway. It's getting cold." She could feel goosebumps on her shoulders. Aura leaned foward then did a few breat strokes to take her a little further out before turning back around to face her blonde rival. "Where should we race to?" she asked, though in the end it most likely wouldn't matter. It was becoming really dark now. She could not even really see the tree line along the shore.

Aura made a good point and truthfully, Gavin was glad she hadn't left, even if he was slightly annoyed at the appearance of another person in the pool, but it was a female. So that made it a little better.
"That's what I like to hear," Gavin said, grinning when she agreed to race. This would definitely make things more exciting and warm Gavin up as it was beginning to get cold just wading in the water. Besides, he needed some competition, he loved the adrenaline rush it gave him. He watched her swim out further, admiring her breast stroke and wishing he could admire her body when she turned around.
"Well..." Gavin trailed off, looking around at possible endpoints. The lake seemed endless. Maybe if they started further out and swam to the dock? He dove under water, swimming over to her and resurfaced next to her, wiping water droplets from his face. "How about the dock?" he asked, smirking over at her.

Now that she was out further, the lake bottom was well beyond her reach. She treaded water as she waited for Gavin and raised her eyebrows challengingly. She had transitioned easily into her competitive mode, and was ready to swim her heart out and kick his ass. Then he disappeared under water and a few seconds later surfaced next to her. She turned her head slightly towards the dock, blinking in the darkness to bring it to focus. The lake was dark; she could barely see the shore except where city lamps were set up. It was eerie, but she could not feel more at home than where she was in the water. Sometimes she wondered why her powers weren't better suited to that, but as her power teacher said nearly every class, 'our powers are not chosen. They just are.'
"The dock sounds good," she said, spotting it a little way away. A lamp light spilled over the end of the dock, lighting it up for, she supposed, any late night boaters. Although she had yet to see someone boat along this lake. Now that the schools were in the area, the lake seemed to 'belong' to them, even though it was technically city property. "Ready, then?" she asked, rolling her shoulders in preparation. She glanced sideways at him and grinned. Oh yeah. It would be so satisfying to kick his ass.

Gavin looked over at her, at the challenging look on her face. "Thinking you're going to beat me could very well be your downfall, Morgan," he said with a grin, eyes now concentrating on the dock in the distance, the end point. He always had his goal in mind when he was doing something, it kept him going and he never strayed from trying to achieve his goals. "Ready," he agreed, eyes narrowing.
Swimming, he took very seriously. While it was a leisure activity, it was also his pride at stake. And while he could admit that Veritas was talented in their swim team, he knew that he alone was born to swim. "Shall we raise the stakes?" he offered.

"My downfall?" she repeated with a laugh. "Sorry, but with swimming and me, there is no such a thing. Keep dreaming, though."
Aura paused and looked at Gavin. Her eyes narrowed in suspicion, but her voice betrayed her intrigue. "Raise the stakes? How exactly do you mean?" she wondered, arching an eyebrow at him. What exactly could he have in mind? All Aura had thought their race would be was just a race. And then the winner could rub it in the loser's face that they won and the other would get annoyed but it would all be good, competitive fun. But raised stakes? It was an intriguing idea, she could not help but admit that.

"There you go again, Morgan," Gavin said with a roll of his eyes. "I guess we'll find out, now won't we?" He grinned and looked over at her, awaiting her response to his suggestion, which she seemed wary of at first. "You know, like a bet. If I win....I get something. If you win, you get something. Come on, Morgan. You never make bets with your teammates?" He shoved her in the shoulder slightly. Sure it would be fun to rub things in someone's face when you won, it always was, but having another prize was nice as well.
"Any ideas what you would like? That is, of course, if you win." Gavin knew not to underestimate her, but at the same time, he also knew his own strengths. "Because I think I know what I want my prize to be."
