"I apologise, if you want i'll leave you alone" He turned around "but i have been working on a brainwave scrambler to stop people from reading my mind but i think it would work the other way around" He pulled the phone away from his ear and kept the microphone near his mouth "anyway goodbye" Tim ended the call and with another flick of his hand the i-pod sprung to life "as i said it's still broken, i still need to pull off the back and fiddle to make sure the power button works and maybe if you lighten up i'll upgrade it for you"

"Brainwave scrambler?" Eloise tried to ask but before she got it out the boy had hung up. He had walked significantly closer though, and Eloise didn't feel as if approaching him wouldn't take too much effort. She could read thoughts, yes, but understanding them was a whole different thing. And Tims thoughts were very elaborate and technical, and El never had luck with technology.
So she dropped herself from the tree, and shuffled over to where Talon and Tim were standing. "He's not going to lighten up. It's not a possibility for him," Eloise said cutting into the conversation easily.

Talon relaxed only slightly when Tim hung up the phone. "Dude, I just need you to turn it back on the same way your technology voodoo turned it off. You're making it sound all complicated when I bet it isn't!" he argued, tightening his fist around the silver iPod. "And I don't need it to be upgraded. Just don't delete anything from it or--" A girl jumped out of the tree and Talon shouted in surprised, dropping his iPod. He tried to catch it in mid-air but it bounced off his hand before falling onto the grass.
"Damnit!" he cursed. "Where the hell did you come from?" he asked, staring at the girl.

"thats fine but once that runs out of power it isn't going to turn back on unless i fix the connection" Tim hardly flinched when Eloise dropped from the tree and smiled "don't be to harsh on him we should be able to get a chirp out of him at some point" Tim laughed "This is who i was just on the phone to, that light display before wasn't just for show" James turned to eloise "not sure that i've met you before, as you already know i'm Tim Thorne" Tim held out his hand to Eloise

Eloise couldn't help but laugh at the boys varrying reactions. Tim knew where she was and what was coming (how, El wasn't quite sure). But Talon was shocked enough to drop his iPod. "I'm new, grade nine," Eloise explained to Tim, taking his hand to shake it curtly. Him not meeting her before was no accident or coincidence. "But yeah... Tim and Talon," she said, nodding to the guys respectively. "I'm Eloise," she said with a shrug. "But El or Ella's good. Whatever you want." Eloise didn't care how anybody referred to her. Once they found out she could read minds (though it seemed Tim already knew) they would likely distance themselves from her. At least that's how most people reacted.

Talon glanced back and forth from Tim to the girl, mouth set in an angry line. He did not appreciate how they were speaking of him in the third person as if he was not there. Instead of saying something, he ducked down and snatched up his iPod from the ground before anyone could try to take him from him. He then clutched it to his chest as if trying to protect it from Tim, except he really wanted Tim to just fix it already. "So fix the connection," he said, his knuckles going white as he tightened his grip on the device.
Feeling annoyed with Tim, he looked Eloise up and down, acknowledging her as more than someone who just dropped from out of no where. She was very attractive -- for a ninth grader. "Do you always climb trees and spy on people, Ella?" he asked. "It's creepy." He did not sound creeped out, however. People at these schools did weirder things.

Tim was getting annoyed with Talon but still wasn't going to show that to anyone, well except for Eloise who was probably reading his thoughts. 'Who put the wind up his feathers' Tim thought smiling hoping Eloise heard him "i would fix it but as i said i don't have any tools with me to work on it" He turned back to Eloise "Nice to mete you El. How are you finding it here?" Tim was trying to clear his mind he didn't want all inventions to pour into Eloise's head. He thought it would be pretty distracting for her that lots of calculations and specifications were flying at her while trying to chat.

Eloise laughed at the comment Tim made in his head, and then she turned to Talon, "Actually usually the opposite. I'm usually hiding from people. you're buddy over here is just a little too persistent ." She knew he had found her attractive, and that made eloise slightly more uncomfortable in the situation. It seemed as if Tim were the gentleman here, actually making a concious effort to clear his mind. She appreciated it.
"It's loud," she said figuring that Tim would at least somewhat understand what she meant. "Being around a lot of people all the time is a little overwhelming," she noted. Without looking at Talon she could tell he was strengthening his grip on his iPod. "Nobody want's your iPod Talon. You don't have to hold onto if as if your life depends on it."

Talon didn't bother to mask the smirk that crept onto his face. "Here's a tip, Ella. If you're hiding from someone, you might want to stay in your hiding place," he said, then raised his eyebrows slightly. He decided to ignore Tim for a little while; he was annoyed with the twelfth grader. Talon was now convinced Tim was mucking it up on purpose.
He smirk pursed into a scowl at the mention of his iPod. "Maybe it does," he said snidely. "Maybe if I drop this iPod again I'll burst into flames or something. You don't know me," he added, tilting his head ever so slightly towards the sky in what was meant to be a haughty expression. "Also, you should want my iPod. It holds the best collection of music. Ever."

"here's one for you Talon, to make friends try making conversation" Tim turned back to Eloise again "i can imagine that being a bit annoying, I used to constantly set off technology when i was near them and once i learnt to control my power it really only happens when i get really angry, and that rarely happens" He smiled "I just wished for the year that i had to avoid technology that i had someone to help me out" It had been hard for Tim earlier on in his life even before he came to this school, his farther avoided him as his tech equipment was more important to him than his own son James turned to Talon and looked at the ipod "wait is that Justin Bieber on there?" He smiled "wow" he said sarcastically

Eloise raised an eyebrow at Talon. She usually didn't do what she was about to do, but she didn't like the guy's attitude and she kind of wanted to see him be the uncomfortable one instead of trying to make her feel shitty. "Talon Auburn, grade 10, and you can't turn into fire, just birds.... the only thing you can light up is a pack a day," she smirked at Talon, before rolling her eyes and turning back to Tim.
"Yeah I know what you mean. I've learned to create some sort of mental block... but it takes a lot of energy out of me so... that's why I come out here. I can let it down and usually there's only a few voices instead of a hundred,"Ella explained. She was happy that she at least already had some defense. She never considered what state most of the new students must be in when they first get here.

Talon glared at Tim. "Who says I wanted to make any friends?" he shot back. He listened with crossed arms as Tim explained his power to Eloise, and was glad that he never lost control of his power enough to accidentally shift into a bird. That would be awkward. He imagined himself walking into the local Tim Hortons to get a coffee. Yeah, hey, can I get an iced capp? Shit, I don't have enough money. And then he shrinks rapidly in size and sprouts wings and beak and flaps away from his tangle of clothes as an embarrassed chickadee or something. Yep. Awkward.
He blinked at Tim and then looked down at his iPod. "Who the hell is Justin Bieber?" he wondered, staring blankly at his still dead iPod screen. He had every Green Day song in existence as well as a lot of heavy rock songs, but he did not recall a Justin Bieber. Was that a band or something? Like Rascal Flatts? Talon always thought that was a singer until his mom corrected him. She liked country music. Talon didn't think it was loud enough.
He was pulled out of his thoughts by Eloise spitting out information about him. He gaped at her then balked, shoving his iPod into his hoodie pocket. "What the hell? Are you some sort of stalker?" he asked her. At the mention of cigarettes, however, he pulled his pack from his bag and lit up a new one, slowly inhaling the lung-killing smoke and holding his breath for as long as he could before letting it out in a puff. He didn't pay attention to what she was saying to Tim.

The heating unit Tim had invented was starting to make him more than just comfortably warm it was starting to heat up. Tim was starting to go red in the face. Tim had made sure the heater could not go anywhere near a temperature that would burn him but enough for a very cold winters day. Unfortunately for Tim it wasn't cold enough for this heat. 'damn the automatic thermostat must be glitchy' Tim smiled uncomfortably "you'll learn to control it so it doesn't take so much out of you. Thats what's awesome about this school"

Ella glared at Talon for the stalker comment, and then turned to Tim. "I sure hope so," Ella said with a sigh, turning to Talon, but still talking to Tim. "I get to know a little more than I would like to about people at this point." She couldn't believe Talon still hadn't caught on to her power. But then again, his mind was very troubled, very dark. There was a reason he was so angry. She didn't search for it, never comfortable in the deepest places of peoples mind. But she smiled at him slightly, in some sort of attempt to let him know that she wasn't going to invade his privacy... but then again he still wasn't positive that she was a mind reader.
"So what exactly is a technopath?" she asked, crossing her arms, slightly cold.

No one was answering any of his questions, so Talon hovered next to Tim and occupied himself with his cigarette. He really had nothing better to do, so he did not terribly mind waiting for Eloise and Tim to finish their conversation so that Tim could fix Talon's iPod. He was slightly impatient, though. Know what would make waiting go by better? Music. Oh wait, he thought sarcastically, and side-eyed the twelfth grader next to him.
Each time he inhaled from the cigarette between his teeth he felt disguted. Cigarettes were nasty, vile little things, but he was dependant on them. Firstly, he was addicted, and secondly he did not want to think about secondly. He just had to keep smoking.
