Mikayla smiled and shrugged slowly. "You were shocked. Most people don't know what to say. Honestly, you're better than this one person who asked me if I was sure," she told him, and laughed. "Like, oh let me just try again to see; I might have been mistaken," she joked, shaking her head. Growing uncomfortable in the position she was in, Mikayla sat up and pulled her legs up onto the chair so her arms were wrapped around her legs.
"I guess that's true. Kids don't really have long attention spans, either." Even when she was taking riding lessons as a child, which she loved, she got bored of all the walking and trotting and just wanted to gallop in the fields. It was ironic that one of the few times she did get to without supervision, she ended up hospitalised and unconcious for a few days. Ironic and sad.
She could tell he felt a bit awkward about singing, so she didn't ask him to. She liked listening to him play around with the piano, though. She wondered if he was trying to play something, but slowly, or if he was just letting his fingers guide him. She laughed againt at his cello comment and teased, "Are you sure? The cello is bigger than a guitar. Oh, but the piano is even bigger, so never mind."

"I guess size DOES matter," Gabe joked, wiggling his eyebrows for his own amusement. "No I just like Piano because I can do more with it. It's more emotional..." he played a 'happy' tune, followed by a sad and solemn one, then angry, and then one that was playful and fun. He took his hands away from the keys. "I dunno. I like guitar more for vocals and I can play guitar anywhere. Pianos are slightly more static. So I only get to play them every now and again."
He stretched out his fingers and turned to Mikayla. "Do you have a favorite song?" he asked curiously. Most songs were the same 4 chords, so playing a popular song was never an issue. He could play most songs he'd heard before on the spot, and he loved a challenge. "Or just a song you like?" He put his fingers back on the keys and moved them around without really playing, going through chords and sounds in his head.

"Gabe, I was just about to make a size joke," Mikayla admitted with an amused laugh. "But you beat me to it." She sobered when he explained why he liked the piano, and nodded in understanding. "That's true. Is it easier to write a song on the piano or on a guitar?" she wondered randomly. "Or does it matter?" She then grinned at him. "Oh come on. You mean you can't carry a piano around everywhere?" she teased as she once again adjusted her position on her seat. She couldn't sit still for some reason, so in the end she just got up and stood next to the piano, folding her arms and leaning on it. It was the perfect height for her to stay beside, and she preferred standing at the moment to sitting.
"Leonard Cohen's Hallelujah," she replied instantly. "I don't know what it is about that song, but it gets to me every time. Oh, but don't play it," she added quickly. "I'll probably cry." She felt her face redden at her confession and she smiled embarrassedly. "I also like his poems." She missed reading them, but she had a few memorized. Poetry was one thing she refused to listen to in audio form. It wasn't the same when someone else read it. It ruined it. "You play what you like. Something you've written maybe?" she suggested, hopeful.

Gabe let his fingers fall from the keys for a moment. He thought. "Well..." he admitted, "Most of the songs I write I use guitar. But.. there is one..." He had wrote it a while ago for his girlfriend. Ex girlfriend. He considered weather or not he actually wanted to play it though. There was a lot of emotion behind it. But in that moment he figured that there were about 1000 meanings the song could have, and he needed to start giving it new ones. "But uh... yeah... ok..." he said nervously. He just played a couple random notes first, getting the pitches in his head. He considered just playing the music, and not singing it, but that wasn't going to help him in any way. He just decided to keep his head down or eyes closed as he played. He tried to forget that anybody was in the room with him. Even though it helped knowing that Mikayala couldn't see the awkward facial expression that he made as he sung. Then, he started to play. [[ www.youtube.com/watch?v=gV0rjA66Opo ]] It wasn't until the very end where he finally realized just how into the song he had become. He panicked a little, and voice cracked slightly. He had been thinking about her again and it definitely hurt a little. But that was ok. That was the first time he had made it all the way through the song in a long while.

Silence filled the room when Gabe stopped playing, and Mikayla waited for his response. She smiled when he agreed; she was looking forward to hearing a song of his, even though she had found out he was very much into music only a few minutes ago. The real reason they had gone to the music room was lost as he began to play, and she was pleasantly surprised when he added his voice into the mix. As he played, she sunk back onto the chair, this time resting her arms on the piano top and her chin on her arms as she listened. She didn't need to close her eyes, but she did anyway, allowing the music to fill her as he played and as he sang.
He had an amazing voice; she hadn't been expecting that. When his voice cracked towards the end, she smiled and opened her eyes. She wondered if he had gotten nervous or felt awkward like he had been describing before. When he stopped playing she waiting a moment before say said anything. "You wrote that?" she asked quietly, the impression she felt evident in her voice. "Wow, Gabe." He sang with so much emotion that it was affecting her. She bit the inside of her cheek, wishing she could see his face. She wanted to see the face behind the voice. "That was amazing."

Gabe blushed, and hid his face a little even though Mikayla couldn't see it. He shrugged awkwardly. "Thanks," he said plainly. "Yeah... yeah I wrote that," he added, his slight awkwardness continuing. He mentally slapped himself. He was honestly very glad she enjoyed it, at least that's the way her voice sounded. But suddenly Gabe felt very vulnerable, as he often did after singing in front of any type of audience.
"I uh..." he started, rubbing the back of his neck again, "I kinda want to be a singer but... I don't know... my dad and... people..." He laughed. "Never mind," he said pretty sure he didn't want to talk about it. He felt like he had only known Mikayla for a small amount of time, and he was dumping a large amount of information on her, more than she necessarily needed or wanted to know.

He had so much talent. She wondered if he realised just how much talent he had. She was about to ask if he ever considered doing this professionally, but he beat her to it. She frowned, her brows knitting slightly together as she tried to figure out what could possibly be stopping him from taking his talent any further. It was obvious that he had an intense passion for music. She heard it in his voice and in his playing.
"Do people not approve of you being a musician?" she asked softly. "Because, and I hope I'm not overstepping anything here, but it's your choice. You know? You shouldn't let anyone else stop you from doing what you want to do. Or anything," she added, realising she should have taken her own advice years ago. "Anyway, I just think you should go after what you want," she said, sitting up and shrugging. "The only person who is really in your way is you."

Gabe sighed. She was half right. "No the real thing getting in the way is my power," he said. "People... people like me for no reason. Because they look me in the eyes and are suddenly infatuated by everything I am. Nobody CARES about me or my talent, they're just under some delusion." He stood up from the piano, slightly angry now. Not at Mikayla or even himself, just at the situation.
"And to top it off my dad in the music production business," he explained. "And he'd blacklist me before I got anywhere," he said disappointingly. His dad wanted him to go into business, law, or medicine. He claimed he had seen too many 'professional' musicians fail and live a poor and unhealthy life because they didn't have what it takes. So Gabe wasn't going to be allowed to even try. Every day he tried to convince himself it wasn't what he wanted anyway, but he knew he was just lying to himself. And now he had brought Mikayla into it. "I'm sorry," he apologized for his outburst, running his hands through his hair and sighing. "Sorry I didn't mean to snap like that. It's just...." he couldn't think of how to finish the sentence.

"Oh," Mikayla said softly. She didn't have a solution for him except the reason they had gone to the music room in the first place. Before she could bring it back up, however, Gabe continued. She heard him stand up and she sat straight, no longer leaning on the piano. She let him rant, frowning slightly and wondering why on earth his father would blasklist him; she would have assumed his father would be able to help him further his career. And then Gabe began to apologise, and Mikayla shook her head.
"No, it's okay," she told him. "You're frustrated; you shouldn't hold that in." She stood and slid onto the piano bench, then held out her hand to him, intending if he took it to pull him back onto the bench. "Come sit," she told him. "We may find a loophole to your power, remember? Try it on me," she said, gently reminding him.

"Right," Gabe said, remembering why they had gone there in the first place. He went and sat on the bench next to her, not taking her hand because he was too worked up to notice it. He looked down at his feet for a moment. He really wasn't sure if he actually wanted to try this. He could leave his glasses on and Mikayla would never know. He considered it, and looked up at her. She was facing him, as if waiting for him to do something.
He took a deep breath, and touched his fingers to the sunglasses. Why he was so nervous, he wasn't sure. Perhaps part of him really wanted her to not be effected by his powers. But he wouldn't admit that in his mind because he didn't want to be disappointed if it didn't work. He let his fingers linger, still reconsidering the test. He took a deep breath. "Well... ready?" he asked.

She felt him sit down, and dropped her hand, trying not to feel rejected. She supposed it was silly, her offering out her hand for him to sit. She should have just patted the bench. She was the blind one, after all. Not Gabe. She clasped her hands in her lap and pushed the feeling aside so as not to fall too silent. Sometimes she got too lost in her mind from dwelling on an emotion.
Mikayla waited for Gabe to do whatever it was that needed to be done to work his powers. Another silence fell over them, and she wondered if it was meant to be an awkward one, or if he was just concentrating. Then he spoke, and she realised he had not even started. "I'm ready," she said with a confident smile. She wondered what it would feel like to be 'charmed' by him. Would she feel any different or would she not even notice? Well, if it worked, she would know after.

Gabe looked at Mikayla's eyes through his glasses. He tensed up a bit as he wrapped his fingers around the frame of his pink glasses. His heart was racing and his palms were sweating. He stayed that way for a moment, and then sighed silently and let his hand fall. He couldn't do it. He didn't want to find out that she was just going to be another person always effected by his powers. He barely even understood what the power actually did. He may not even be able to tell if he was effecting her. So what did it matter? He didn't want her to have to be burdened by whatever effect it may have on her. He was very glad she couldn't see the disappointed look on his face as he asked her "Do you feel any different?" in the most normal tone he could possibly use. An overwhelming feeling of guilt rushed through him, but Gabe did his best to ignore it.

She waited silently, her hands folded in her lap as she waited for Gabe to use his power. She waited for any sign that it was working, and kept absolutely still, as if any slight movement might mess him up. When he spoke and broke the silence, she slowly shook her head. "No, I feel exactly the same," she told him. And then her face broke out into a grin. "So it doesn't work on me!" she said excitely. "Gabe, that's great. Now you know there is a control point on your power. Of course that could also be seen as a disadvantage for when you actually want to use it, but how many blind people are going to come across, right?" she joked happily. She had no idea he hadn't even tried to use his powers; she didn't see any reason why he wouldn't.

"Yeah," Gabe said nodding, trying to muster some enthusiasm. "It's great," he said with a pleasant tone, but the smile on his face was forced - not that it mattered all that much. It felt like he had swallowed some lead and it sank to the bottom of his stomach. Gabe didn't like lying. He didn't do it too often, only when he felt is was necessary. And he felt like in this case he had to do something to protect Mikayla from his powers. He hated not knowing how to control it, or tell if it was working. The only way he knew that everything Mikayla was saying was genuine is if he kept the glasses on. So he decided that - for now- he would.

Still smiling, Mikayla turned to face the piano and ran her fingers along the keys directly in front of her, but light enough that she was not pressing any of them down. She dragged her fingers slowly over the black keys, then said to Gabe, "So what's the easiest song to play on here?" She turned her head towards him. "And will you teach it to me? I kind of regret not following through with my lessons when I was younger. And I want to see if I'm able to play even though I cannot see," she admitted with a shy smile. "You don't have to," she added, not wanting him to feel obligated. "I mean, if you have somewhere else to go..." She trailed off, hoping he didn't have anywhere else to be. She liked hanging out with him; he was really nice and he seemed to have gotten over the shock of her inability to see. She found his awkwardness to be adorable, and she was enjoying their conversation so far.
