"GABRIEL JAMES!" And angry voice cried, "FEET ON THE GROUND"
Gabe jumped at the sound of his name, and then sighed. He'd been caught. He had gotten pretty good at hovering just inches above the ground, and moving his feet as if her were walking to get from place to place. But this time one of the teachers had spotted him and called him out.
He adjusted his backpack and braced himself to land, stumbling as his feet hit the floor again. "Désolé Madame Dupont," Gabe said without much enthusiasm as he continued toward the cafeteria. He fixed his sunglasses as he turned the corner, and looking around to make sure no other authority was watching he lifted himself off the ground once more.
Once in the cafeteria though, Gabe felt like he should probably obey the rules. There were plenty of teachers around and he really didn't want another visit to the headmaster just yet. School had just barely started. He hovered over toward one of the lines, and let himself down on the ground. This time he didn't quite catch himself though, and fell forward, knocking into something or someone (he wasn't sure) and hitting the ground, a lunch tray with pasta, salad, and milk just barely missing his clean uniform as it fell to the ground next to him.

Mikayla was looking forward to dinner. Her stupid phone alarm had been on vibrate only because she was sick of it announcing loudly every time she received a text. But she forgotten to switch it back so it could announce the time. She had missed lunch earlier because she had had a spare and was studying, so she had not eaten anything since breakfast. Sometimes she thought it would be really handy if Spiritus served food all day long, especially for the students who preferred to eat later in the day than the regular dinner hours. But she also supposed that structured meal times was much easier for the staff; they could ensure that food was always fresh that way. And a fresh meal was better than, well, everything.
As she walked through the cafeteria with her tray in hand, she made sure not to walk so quickly and to pay attention to the sounds around her. Most people knew to avoid her since she herself could not see, but anything could happen. That theory was proven when she collided with someone and her tray full of delicious-smelling alredo pasta, a garden salad, and some skim milk went flying out of her hands. Mikayla gasped loudly and covered her mouth with both hands. She heard the tray crash to the floor, the food scattering everywhere and the milk splashing up. She felt a lettuce leaf hit her bare leg between her stocking and her skirt hem.
"Oh my goodness, I'm so sorry!" she exclaimed, reaching towards the ground in an attempt to help the person up. She had obviously not seen that he had been flying and assumed it was she who had crashed into him. "I didn't see you," she exclaimed. "Are you okay? Did any of my food land on you? I am so sorry," she emphasized, genuine guilt poured into her words. If her entire tray of food had fallen on them, she would feel even more terrible.

Gabe laughed a little, accepting the girls hand, and letting her help him up. "Oh it was my fault," he said honestly, afterward bending down and picking up the tray and the food, figuring he should probably clean it up since it was legitimately his fault. "Despite flying for most of my life I still suck at the landing part", he explained. He tossed the spoiled food in a nearby trashcan, and began looking around for some nearby napkins to clean up the spill before a staff member noticed the mess.
He stopped though, and looked at the girl who stood before him, "Are you alright though?" he asked. He realized he had seen the girl before. But he didn't really know who she was. And it was hard not to know people at Spiritus since it was so small. He pulled a piece of lettuce off of her sleeve for her, since she didn't seem to notice it was there. He adjusted his glasses again, making sure that when he looked at her, his charm wouldn't cause her to constantly blame herself.

Mikayla was slightly confused when she heard the person from the ground laugh. Her cheeks reddened; was he laughing at her? When he grasped her hand, she helped him up and opened her mouth to mutter another apology, but he began to speak. "You fly?" she blurted, not sure why she sounded so surprised. This was a power school, after all. "I mean, that's really cool. I guess your landing does need a little practise, though," she said with a small smile. "Still, I'm sorry I got in the way. I would have moved had I seen you."
She heard him shuffling around on the ground and felt bad that she could not help. She had no idea where the mess was and would only take longer to clean it up. "I'm okay, really," she informed him. She was still a bit shocked from the collision and her arm was sore, but she did not mention that. She did not want to come off as incapable when people already pegged her as such. "Are you? It sounded like you took a pretty hard fall," she added with concern.

"I wouldn't have seen me either. I kind of fell sideways. I dunno... it was weird," Gabe admitted, not realizing that Mikayla couldn't see him because she was blind. His glasses were dark and he couldn't really see the cloudyness in her eyes. Even if he did he might have not known. He awkwardly ran his hand through his thick mess of hair. After a certain point he just became awkward in socail situations, but he tried his best to remain composed.
"Oh I'm fine," he said slightly embarrassed by his inability to land. "I'm used to falling. I'm pretty good at it," he admitted with a dorky smile, rubbing the back of his neck. "uh..." he started, unsure of how to resolve the situation. The he offered, "Do you want me to buy you another meal? I mean... it's my fault. And clearly I'm not going to suggest you go hungry or eat floor salad."

Mikayla tried to picture someone falling out of the air sideways, and lifted a hand to her mouth for a second time to stifle a giggle. Even though she had no idea what he looked like, it was a funny image. "I'm sorry," she said with a wide grin. "It does sound a little weird." Her grin softened to a smile. "I'm glad you're okay, though. Even though you're claiming fault, I would still feel bad. I did get in your way, after all," she said in a light teasing voice.
When he offered to buy her another meal, she automatically shook her head. "Oh, no, that's okay. Really, I..." She paused, considering his offer. She had only brought enough money down for one meal, and she would have to go back up to her dorm to grab her wallet to get more money. "Actually, I might just take you up on that," she said, hoping she was not coming off as greedy. He had offered, after all. "I think I'll go with just the pasta this time, though," she said. The thought of floor salad turned her off salad for the day and she scrunched up her nose.

Gabe couldn't help but smile at her laugh. He loved making other people laugh and smile. Even if it was at his own expense. "Alright," he said, picking up his backpack, and slinging it over his shoulder, digging in his pants pocket for his wallet. "I'm sorry again. That was probably pretty embarrassing for the both of us." He began to walk away toward the line of people getting their food.
"What's your name?" He asked her. "I mean... I know I've seen you around before. But I don't ever remember talking to you," he said. "Which is weird because it's hard not to know everybody here. I should stop rambling... I'm Gabe." God he was so awkward. Gabe hated when he was awkward. It was times like these where he wished he felt good and confident about using his powers, but usually it just made him feel worse.

Mikayla half-shrugged and started to walk when she heard his footsteps departing. She knew her way well enough around the cafeteria that she could avoid tables, but she tried to stay close to him to avoid bumping into anyone else. "Ehh, it's okay," she told him with a wry smile. "It happens more often than you might think, and usually it's my fault. This is a first," she admitted.
"I'm Mikayla," she said with a small laugh at his rambling. She liked him already; he had not yelled at her for their collision, even though it was his fault. Even though most people were nice to her, there was the odd person with a cranky disposition who would blame her for any collision whether it was her fault or not. Thankfully, he was not one of those people. "It's nice to meet you, Gabe," she said to him. "Even though you took a tumble there." She grinned teasingly.

Gabe shrugged, still embarassed by his tumble. "You would think that after 2 full years in this place they would have taught me to land properly. I blame the curriculum!" he joked, not wanting to admit he really just didn't ever pay attention to flight in his powers class. Most of his energy (if any) in there was put toward controlling his Charm. Though, honestly, the class had yet to truly help him in that department either.
He reached the back of the line and Mikayla stood close behind him. "What grade are you?" he asked, still finding it fairly odd that he had never talked to her before, at least for a moment or two. He grabbed two trays and placed one in front of himself, and another in front of Mikayla as they waited for the line to move along so they could pick up their dinner.

Judging by the sounds of sliding trays and chatting students, she knew they had neared the line, so Mikayla slowed. She still stayed close to Gabe so that if the line moved she would feel him move away from her. "Well I still cause accidental storms, so I guess we all need some work," she laughed along with his joke. "I guess that's why we need four years of training. Although I feel like we'll always be learning from our powers," she added as she reached down to feel for her tray. She wrapped her hands around both sides and thanked Gabe.
"I'm in eleventh," she said. "You are as well, right?" she guessed, remember how he had said 'after two full years in this place' before. She wondered how many classes they had together.

Gabe raised an eyebrow, "Yeah I'm 11th too." He grabbed a slice of pork and and put it on a plate. "We might have some classes together... but the teachers usually sit me at the front so I can't cause any issues. I don't usually get to see all the people behind me." He added some salad to his plate as well as some rice and vegetables.
"So weather control huh?" Gabe asked "So I can blame you for the random rain while I'm out flying over the lake?" said shooting Mikayla a joking smile. He was sure that wasn't the case, but he always poked fun at people's powers. He once met an avian shapeshifter from Veritas while he was out flying. Every time he saw him now he reffered to him as 'birdbrain' or 'birdboy'.

Mikayla constantly smelled the air until she knew they were by the pasta. She grabbed a plate of it, trying her best not to stick her hand in it. Judging from the hotter steams of air, she knew where the pasta was and managed to grab a plate without making a mess. She placed it on the tray and grabbed a fork. That was all she wanted, so she would have to wait until they were by the drinks so she could grab her milk again.
"Oh, I usually sit near the door because it is the easiest to get to," she said. He had probably sat in front of her loads of times, but of course she would not have noticed.
She laughed at his joke and shrugged her shoulders innocently. "Hey, what can I say? I'm here to learn control, right?" She nudged his elbow playfully. "So are you a bit of a trouble-maker then? Since you have to sit up front?" She raised her eyebrows slightly in a teasing manner and grinned.

Gabe sighed, "I guess," he admitted. "I mean... I don't MEAN to be a trouble maker. It just comes to me so naturally." He laughed at himself. It was true, he was known for trouble at Spiritus. But her wasn't a "bad boy". He was more of a class clown, and that type of personality wasn't acceptable at Spiritus. Sometimes Gabe wondered about the other school that he'd heard of. He felt as if he'd get in less trouble there, but of course he didn't have the option.
"I think it's safe to say you're a trouble maker when the majority of the teachers know about you before you've had them," Gabe clarified as he moved along and took a piece of cake for dessert, just waiting to get his beverage now. "Madame Dupont is the only teacher that lets me get away with some things, and that's only because she enjoys my attempts at french. I'm better at Italian but Florence Basile is way to strict to handle my antics." He turned to face Mikayla. "Sorry... I'm rambling again."

Mikayla found herself smiling at his ramble about his in-class antics. He sounded really fun, and she wondered if she had every missed seeing his antics. Usually when the teachers were scolding someone, she would tune out and focus on what the teacher had just been lecturing them on. Learning was more difficult for her in the classroom; she had to really listen and take notes by recording the class on a tape recorder. There was no point in her writing something down if she would not be able to read it after, so she recorded the lecture and listened to it after, making her own notes later by typing them up and having her laptop read them back to her. It was a huge hassle, but Mikayla was a good worker and a fast learner in the academic sense. She was able to remember facts slightly better. Mostly because she had to.
"Oh, no, that's okay. I like listening," she told him as she felt around the drinks to find the shape she was looking for. At the last minute she decided she would prefer a bottle of orange juice over some milk, so she felt around for the bottles with ridged tops. She knew most of the juices were in similar bottles, but had been able to distinguish which was orange because the bottle neck was shaped slightly different. Once she found it, she put it on her tray and was ready to go. "Sounds like you're quite entertaining in class, then," she remarked with a smirk.

Gabe grabbed a bottle of water, and raised an eyebrow as Mikayla felt around the drinks as if looking for something specific, except without REALLY looking. He shrugged though, and didn't think too much of it as they approached the register. "Um.. I'm going to pay for both," he explained pointing to himself and Mikayla. He put down his tray and gave the cashier the appropriate amount of money.
"I don't think the teachers really think of it that way, but I hope somebody does," Gabe said referring to his antics. "I usually do at the time, but I usually regret my decisions once I'm in detnetion. " Gabe hated detention, but they never stopped him from goofing off. Being a clown was just in his nature and no amount of "dicipline" could stop him from making wise remarks or dramatic facial expressions during class.
"So... uh..." Gabe started, taking a few steps back into his awkward phase once more. "Do you have anybody to sit with?" he asked, looking around for an empty table or a group of friends. Either would work, really. Though there weren't many open seats around the people he usually talked to. Probably because he lost time cleaning up after his accident. All the seats were taken up by students who beat him to the dinner line.
