Dakota was just happy to return to his dorm room after a long day. He'd met up with some not so wanted company by the lake and the guy had only harassed him about his powers. So what if Dakota was scared to use his fire ability? It was a dangerous power and he had to be careful, but he even feared himself, feared that he would hurt someone.
He'd taken a big risk by trying to teach the guy a lesson. All he'd wanted was to wipe the smirk off of his face, that guy from Spiritus with his ice powers. Dakota didn't even want to think of using his power again any time soon. He had to keep calm or his anger would only start fires.
He sighed as he opened up the door and walked inside, looking over at his roommate who he'd only met briefly, some guy named Talon. He felt as if he was on fire still, his skin hot to the touch. He walked over to the window and opened it, sticking his head out and trying to calm himself before their dorm room went up in flames.

Talon glanced over briefly at the door as one of his roommates walked in. Talon hardly knew them because he always did his best to avoid social situations, so he was a bit disappointed that his alone time was interrupted. He had a lit cigarette dangling from his mouth. He waited to get snapped at for smoking in their dorm, but his roommate only walked to the window and opened it, breathing in the fresh outside air.
"Good idea, it was getting a little smoky in here," Talon said casually as he took another drag. He knew he was asking for it, but did he care? That was a laughable idea. He was the epitome of 'does not give a fuck' in his sweat pants and leather jacket -- he wore no shirt under the jacket -- as he lounged on his bed, his pillow giving his back support. He never sat in his desk chair. The bed was more comfortable and it wasn't like he ever did his homework except when he was forced to in detention. So instead his desk was covered in empty cigarette packets and discarded clothing (mostly pants).

Dakota greedily took in the fresh air, letting the breeze come in through the window to also help air out the smoke. Normally he'd be concerned about his roommate smoking in his bedroom because it had to do with fire, a lighter and it was really unhealthy but he was concerned with the fact that he felt like he would start a fire at any moment. He ran a hand through his black hair, letting out breaths and when he felt somewhat okay, he turned around and leaned back on the window sill with his hands as he looked at Talon. "I didn't open the window because you were smoking," he said, feeling the sweat still coating his forehead. He did not feel well at all, like he had a horrible fever.

Talon was surprised to hear that his roommate -- Dakota was his name, right? -- had not opened the window because he was smoking. "Oh," Talon said with a shrug. He went back to his cigarette, but kept glancing at Dakota, whose face was all red and... was he sweating? "Dude, you don't look so good. Why don't you take off your shirt or something?" he suggested. What was his power again? Oh right, fire. Was that affecting him now or was this guy seriously sick? "Just don't puke on my bed or I'll empty my ashtray on yours," he added after a thought. Not that Talon wanted any trouble with the guys he had to live with for the year, but he would retaliate if anyone upchucked on his stuff.

Of course oh was all Talon had to say. Dakota turned back to the window, letting the cool air hit his face and trying to bring down his temperature. He needed an ice cold shower or something, but he just wanted to be able to control this. Controlling fire was supposed to be a badass power, something that made you seem dangerous. Dakota was just scared.
"I don't feel so good," he said in return, turning to give Talon a strange look. Suggesting taking off his shirt made sense, but it wasn't going to do much in helping him. That and it just seemed like an odd request to get from his roommate. "Uhm, I'm not going to throw up. It's not that kind of sickness. I just need to release...the tension. Anger equals fire, okay?" He sighed, not wanting to worry about his roommate dumping his ash tray on his bed.

Talon continued to gaze at his roommate as he explained his 'not feeling good' wasn't the type of 'not feeling good' that Talon thought it was. He felt a slight stab of disappointment when Dakota didn't remove his shirt, and blue a cloud of smoke in the air with a huff as his only outward reaction. Most of his reactions were on the inside only. Most of everything about Talon was on the inside, hidden. Where it should be.
"I don't a way you could release some tension," he said under his breath, not intending for Dakota to hear. He smirked at the thoughts going through his head, knowing it was probably not a good idea to think of making out with his roommate. Besides, he was pretty convinced the guy was straight. Talon looked at him and tilted his head slightly. Shame.

Dakota merely sighed and sat down on his bed, feeling so annoyed at his power. He couldn't release the fire, the heat. He didn't yet know how to do it in a safe way. He was so afraid of doing something wrong, of burning down the school. He put his head in his hands, feeling his burning skin. "I hate this," he muttered to himself, aware of Talon still in the room. He was acting like a complete basketcase in front of his roommate. Great.
"Anyway, your smoking is the least of my problems right now." He was so angry. "Why are Spiritus guys such assholes?" He was rambling out loud now. He wouldn't want to deal with him right now.

Talon took back his whole 'not wanting anyone else to be in the same room as him' ideal when he realised that watching Dakota took his mind off of his own thoughts. The guy was clearly stressing about something, and it was certainly distracting in a way that was helpful for Talon. "So are you, like, trying not to turn into a ball of fire or something?" he asked, an imagine of the children's movie The Incredibles coming to mind -- the part where the baby turned itself on fire. He watched that movie a few years ago when he was curious about other powers.
His eyebrows shot up as Dakota mentioned something about a Spiritus asshole. "Did you get rejected or something?" he asked. Maybe Talon was wrong; maybe Dakota was into guys. Or maybe Talon's mind was just stuck there and hopeful.

"No, not exactly. I mean, something like that...but no." Dakota was getting tongue tied as he didn't really know how to explain it. He felt as if he was going to engulf in flames at any moment, but talking out loud with Talon was helping somehow, helping him calm himself even though there was still sweat beading his forehead.
"You could say that," Dakota told him, not understanding what Talon really met. "He thought he was better than me." Just because he went to Spiritus and had control of his powers. Being around people like him made Dakota feel like nothing and he hated that.

Talon shrugged apathetically. "So just let it happen. Set yourself and everything on fire. Burn down the dormroom. Make the fire blaze so quickly that by the time everyone else realises there's a fire and evacuates and realises we are in here, we're already ash," he said. He was being mostly serious, but he cracked a small smirk in case Dakota did something annoying like took him too seriously and freaked out and called his therapist or something. He was pretty sure his therapist had given her number to every teacher and both of his room mates. He could only hope they had lost the number or she had been lying about that. He could only hope.
Talon sat up interestedly. "Wait. This guy thought he was better than you?" he asked incredulously. "Is that some sort of sick joke? What did this guy look like, fucking Gerard Butler or something?" He was under the impression now that Dakota had asked the guy out and been rejected. Why hadn't Talon been aware his room mate was into guys?

Dakota shook his head at Talon, but as much as he thought what he was saying was ridiculous and he knew he could never let that happen, it did make him crack a bit of a smile. He couldn't imagine letting his power run that freely. And the idea of the entire room bursting into flames made him scared, although he wouldn't tell Talon that.
"Yeah, being from Spiritus and all." He wondered why Talon seemed so shocked. Dakota was his roommate, but they didn't know each other so well. "I don't think it has to do with....what I look like. I think it's my power." He was sort of confused by what Talon was saying. "Are you....are you saying I'm good looking?"

Talon's brows furrowed. "So he thinks he is better than you... because he goes to Spiritus?" He snorted. "The guy's not worth your time if he's that stuck up. You can just find someone else," he said with a wave of his cigarette hand. A trail of smoke followed where his hand was before lazily drifting away with the movement of the air in the room. It was most than halfway finished now, but Talon would smoke it until it reached the filter.
"Well, I don't know. Have you seen yourself?" he pointed out, leaning back onto his pillow that comforted his back from the wall behind him. He stuck the cigarette back between his teeth. "The guy's an idiot, in my opinion," he said, his words muffled slightly because of the cigarette.

"Yeah, that's the gist of it," Dakota told him, shrugging his shoulders. He wasn't exactly following what Talon was saying, watching as a trail of smoke moved through the air from his cigarette, mesmerized by it. "Uh, I've looked in a mirror, if that's what you mean." Honestly, Dakota used to care a lot more about how he looked and how others looked, but his power had taken over his life, been a burden that weighed him down.
"Yeah, I guess he is an idiot." Even though Dakota was the one who felt like an idiot. His skin was still burning. "I just can't fucking cool down."
The anger was evident in his words.

"So if you've looked in a mirror you may have noticed your sex appeal," Talon said casually. He watched the fuming teenager try and fail to calm down, and sighed, then gestured at the end of his bed. "Dude, sit down for a moment and breathe. You're not going to calm down by thinking about what just happened. Sit," he urged, sitting up himself and swinging his legs so he sat at the edge of his own bed, slouching slightly because Talon never bothered to sit up straight. Not on purpose, anyway. He had an alterior motive for getting Dakota to sit near him, but he also figured it would be a great way for the guy to get his mind off of his problems. Whenever Talon felt really depressed or stressed, he found it was the perfect way to calm down again.

"Sex appeal?" Dakota almost laughed as he got the words out. "Yeah, right." It was a funny joke, but he knew he wasn't appealing and even if he was, everybody would be turned off by how weak he was, how he couldn't even handle his own power. He listened to Talon, sitting down on the edge of the bed and continuing trying to breathe. "Okay, I'm sitting. Happy?"
He could still feel the draft from the window and tried to just concentrate on the fresh air, but all he could think about was the rushing of his thoughts and the burning of his skin, the burning inside that made him want to burst into flames, or set fire to the room.
