Everett grinned, shaking his head. "Well, it almost feels as if my power is good for practical jokes more than anything else. I mean, unless I have some evil villain to be fighting, it doesn't really come in handy. I've been told at my powers classes that I could control lightning if I worked hard enough at it, but it's very dangerous," he explained, his gaze returning to the window again where the storm was still raging. He hoped it would end soon.
"Now I wish I could start food fights in the cafeteria without anybody being able to track the source," he said, a dorky smirk on his face. But while sometimes having a power was all fun and games, he knew it could be serious and while he didn't actually like that side of it, maybe he'd have to start considering it. "And I am not little," he retorted, sticking out his tongue at her. "Well, to greater purposes...." he said, lifting up his empty cup towards her.

Marley gave a short, dry laugh. At least this kid was funny. And he could take all of Marley's insults in stride. That meant he probably had a good sense of humor. She could appreciate people that didn't take her too seriously, even if she was completely serious most of the time. "They'll find out it's me eventually," she admitted, shaking her head. "I'm good but I'm lazy. I don't cover my tracks too well." She felt like he would understand. Seemed like he liked a good prank too.
She glanced outside at the storm. "So what kind of pranks do you pull?" she asked seeing as they seemed to at least have that in common.

"A good prankster always covers their tracks," Everett was quick to point out. "And it's so much more fun that way!" Although he did have a tendency to burst in laughter when it was too hilarious to bear. "All sorts of pranks. Basic ones. And then the more complicated ones I save for April Fools Day. That is the best holiday ever. I don't think we should have classes." He knew the headmaster would never go for that though. "I especially love using my power to mess with people. When I first developed it, I made my brothers believe the house was haunted." He smiled at the memories.

Marley laughed a little. She remembered she used to do the same to the kids she lived with in foster homes and orphanages. None of them ever liked her, so she would torture them with stories of how the house was haunted. She would talk to "ghosts" who would trow toys and other objects across the room. It was pretty dumb but kind of entertaining. Until the adults started believing it too. Then they would blame Marley for bringing a daemon into the house. And when she tried to explain herself, they never believed her.
"I'm sure your brothers just loved that," Marley commented, remembering the reactions she would get on her part. She was slightly jealous that whatever memories it brought up for Everett put a smile on his face.

Everett chuckled. "They didn't, but then again, I always was better at pranking than they were." He beamed proudly and pulled his beanie down further around his ears, looking out the window again at the storm. If he wasn't mistaken, it was starting to lighten up. He thought of all of the homework he had to do that was piled on his desk in his dorm room and then shook the thought away, turning back to Marley. "I think soon I'll be able to go outside with getting fried."
He was surprised that Marley had gone several minutes without insulting him, specifically making fun of his 'douchebag hair.'

"Good," Marley said. "Now maybe your hair won't stand on end as much and look so douchey when you go outside," she joked, with a slight smile this time though, to show she only half meant it. "It also means I'll be able to go and artistically vandalize as I please," she said finishing off her coffee. She didn't like the thought of being in a lightning storm either. Just because she didn't conduct electricity didn't mean she was going to just chill outside and wait for a bolt to strike close enough to kill her. That wouldn't be a fun way to go.

Everett should have known that the comment had yet to come. He stuck out his tongue at Marley in response, amused at the slight smile on her face. She wasn't as snide as she had been when they first crossed paths. It was nice, as if she'd warmed up to him somewhat. Well, as much as anybody could warm up to Everett.
He grinned at her. "Hey, look who can smile," he commented, chuckling. The conversation had moved onto lighter topics, but he couldn't help but linger on the idea that there had to be students at the two schools who would turn out to be villains. Maybe not like the comic book ones he read about, but when teenagers were given powers, some were bound to taken advantage of them.

"Yeah yeah. Plot twist. Miss Doom and Gloom knows how to smile," She rolled her eyes. People had commented on it before. Plenty of times. Some people would even go as far to say she had a pretty smile and she should do it more often, but she still didn't. She only smiled if given a reason. Life didn't often give her reasons.
Marley sighed heavily, and made the remaining liquid in her cup to collect at the bottom, and it was enough to get another mouthful. She looked up at Everett curiously. "You know... what were you doing alone in town in the first place?" she asked, finally realizing that he had to be here for another reason. Other than trying to scare girls on the pathways that is.

Everett couldn't help but grin at that. "I was just making an observation," he said, putting his hands up as if to say he meant nothing by it. She did have a nice smile, but he knew that people must see it very sparingly.
He sat back in his seat, listening to her question and he merely shrugged in reply. "I was at the comic book store. Cranbrook has a really nice one. Anyway, I don't really have anybody to go with so I usually just go by myself and I'm usually there for a good few hours." That was the truth. He usually ended up spending a lot there, but comic books were his pride and joy. "Let's just say I'm still in the process of making friends," he said with a light chuckle.

Marley hadn't pinned the boy as a loner. And it honestly sounded like he didn't have many friends at all. It seemed odd for somebody who didn't really want to shut up... ever. Marley didn't have any friends because she liked it that way. Less friends meant less people that you had to feel bad about leaving, and less people you had to worry about turning on you or turning out to be fake. She had trusted somebody once, and they had hurt her more than anybody else could ever hurt her. She barely trusted her brother.
"Oh..." she said simply. She wasn't sure how she was supposed to reply to that. He seemed to be trying to make friends. She supposed he tried too hard and came off as overbearing. She would understand anybody who told her that.

Everett felt awkward. Normally he didn't and when he did, he wasn't about to admit it, but he legitimately felt awkward and he was sitting in a coffee shop with a girl from Veritas while a storm calmed down outside so he didn't get struck by lightning. Okay, so maybe the whole thing was an odd scenario. "Sorry," he said randomly. "I tend to just go on about things. It's not that I don't have friends, it's just that...people with powers...are a lot different than my friends back home. I'm still getting used to it."
Honestly, Everett craved human interaction rather than being on his own. Marley seemed the opposite.

Marley nodded, "Understandable," she said simply, though in all honesty she had no clue what it was really like to have friends anywhere. Her whole life involved moving from place to place and meeting tons of people who seemingly hated her. She avoided creating relationships since as soon as they were made they were ripped out from underneath her. Even now that she lived steadily at Veritas or with her brother, she couldn't bring herself to trust anybody. She still feared that everybody had the capacity to hurt her.
"There's nothing to be sorry about," she added with a shrug. Marley wasn't used to people saying sorry to her. And she found it odd that Everett felt the need to apologize, as if he had done something wrong. He hadn't though. Marley would have let him know so quickly if he had. She probably wouldn't even give him the change to apologize.

Everett just shrugged. "I talk too much. It's just who I am, I guess." He shrugged as he turned in his chair to look out the window, where the storm had calmed. Rain droplets still dripped down the window, but the sky had started to clear and he didn't see any more flashes of lightning. Still he was hesitant. "Maybe there isn't anything to be sorry about, yet I still apologize. You seem like the kind of person I don't want to piss off, am I right?" He cracked a smile as he turned back towards her.

Marley actually genuinely laughed out loud. It wasn't often that somebody could manage to get her to SERIOUSLY laugh. "Probably not," she agreed with a grin, still getting over the laughter that took over her face for a moment. She shook her head slightly her smile fading, just a bit. "I'm easy to annoy but not easy to piss off," she clarified for him. "So saying sorry when you don't have to isn't necessary." she promised.
She glanced outside where the skies were clearing just a bit. The clouds didn't look as ominous, and there wasn't any lightning flashing across the sky. "Looks pretty safe now," Marley noted. "I mean... for you and your conductive personality" Even though she struggled with school, every now and then she could sneak in an intelligent joke. She felt pretty accomplished when she did.

"Okay, okay. I'll hold back on the sorrys," Everett told her, grinning. She had laughed, genuinely laughed. Who was to say that Everett Wright wasn't funny? If he could make a pessimist like Marley laugh than he was pretty sure he was downright hilarious.
He stood up from where he sat to get a better look outside. "Seems as if I will not die if I go out there now. That's a positive." Even if he didn't really want to go back to Spiritus. Her joke was appreciated and accurate. "Damn, I'm so jealous you go to Veritas. I mean, Spiritus isn't that bad, but I have a feeling I'd fit in better there."
