Everett knew he should be heading back to Spiritus. Darkness had fallen upon Cranbrook and he had a pile of homework to do and even though he was sure he wouldn't do it anyway, it convinced him to try to make himself go back to his dorm.
He'd spent most of his evening at a comic book shop in Cranbrook, gazing at vintage copies of his favorite old comics. It was something to do and something Everett loved. Besides, he needed to get away from Spiritus and its binding rules. It was just too much for him. Good thing he was only a troublemaker and didn't have complete disrespect for authority. He just liked to have a little too much fun with his power. That was all.
He walked along the pathway, street lamps making his blonde hair glow in the night. He could just feel the electricity pulsing. It was a feeling that made it hard to concentrate on much of anything, an exhilarating one that he could feel down to his toes.
Up ahead he saw a figure, a girl walking. He smirked as he made the street lamps flicker around her, each one behind her going out as she passed it.
A little fun was never a bad thing.

Marley was headed into town to loiter. Maybe paint some grafitti or something. She just needed to get away from all the people and everything that school symbolized. Sometimes she'd go out and skate. Other times she would just walk through town and think. But thinking was dangerous, it had the potential to bring out strong emotions in Marley. And if Marley created too much energy within herself, it all would have to go somewhere. Lucky for Marley it had yet to be a person which she spontaneously blew up, but she was waiting for the day when it happened and she could add one more list to the events that scarred her for life.
She stuffed her hands into the pockets of her leather jacket and pushed her hair away from her face, only for her bangs to fall back over her scarred eye. Ahead a figure was walking toward her. Marley didn't recognize him, but his blonde hair stood out under the street lights. She mostly ignored him, and the amount of energy which seemed to be radiating off of him. That is, she ignore him until the lights around her started to flicker.
She looked up at the lights casually, wondering if whatever was happening was supposed to scare her or make her jump. It didn't take too long for Marley to figure it out though. She was very observant. And with each light that went out the boys energy grew. She walked closer and closer to him, still unfazed by the the flickering lights. "cute trick," she said sarcastically once the boy was in earshot.

Everett crossed his arms as the girl walked over to him, obviously unfazed by his fun. It was disappointing. She even called it cute and that he wasn't having. It wasn't so cute when there was a lightning storm outside or when he caused power outages or a lightbulb to explode. But she probably didn't know the extent of his powers.
He hadn't seen this girl before, dark haired student who probably went to Veritas with an attitude to match. As he concentrated on her, the lights flickered and turned back on. "It's not cute. It's dangerous."

The lights turned back on and revealed the boy in a better light. He had spiky blonde hair and extremely bright blue eyes. He held himself up as if he was trying to look tougher and prove something about her 'cute' comment to be wrong or uncalled for. Marley laughed dryly when he tried to convince her otherwise, "Yeah, ok." she said, her sarcastic demeanor unwavering. She put her arms on her hips. She didn't say a lot, because she didn't have to. The less she said, the more it would bother him she bet. He was trying to impress or scare her. She wasn't sure. But she wasn't going to let him have the satisfaction of either.
She hadn't seen this boy before. But clearly he had powers and clearly he was learning to control them somewhere. She would have noticed him before for his douchebag hairstyle and nerdy tshirts for sure, so she assumed that he must go to the other school everybody talked about. Marley didn't pay much attention to stories about the other school. Frankly, she didn't care. After all, Veritas was her prison and she didn't need to imagine another one.

"Holy Haberdashery, your sarcasm is charming," he said with a giant grin on his face, chuckling at the way she put her hands on her hips. "You Veritas students are sassy." She didn't say much, that was for sure, but she had an attitude and a very dry sense of humor that Everett couldn't appreciate very much.
"What are you doing out so late in Cranbrook? Scaring little children?" he joked. This girl was interesting. Nothing really like Everett, but interesting.

"Holy what?" Marley asked herself more than the boy standing in front of her. She had no fucking clue what that was supposed to mean, and she didn't find it cute or funny. Just annoying. "Well..." she said to answer his follow up question, "I sure didn't come here to be harassed by a nerdy Spiritus douchbag," she smirked slightly.
"And it's ironic since you were the one trying to scare me... or... whatever that little display was back there," Marley continued, waving her hand as if brushing the incident aside, due to the fact that it was unimpressive. Why couldn't people just leave her be? Had the kid just kept walking by and ignored her, or never even flickered the lights, then Marley would already be enjoying her coffee or buying some spray paint to mark up the old abandoned buildings on the edge of town.

"It's a batman reference, duh," Everett said matter-of-factly as if that would even help her figure it out. He rolled his eyes at her comment. "Do you always just say whatever comes to your mind no matter how rude it is?" Douchebag wasn't something he was often called, although the nerdy comment was quite accurate. Although sometimes he preferred a different term. "Geek seems more accurate, just so you know. Might help you in the future when you want to insult me. Also, douchebag would be inaccurate. I suggest loser, or...low life." He cracked a smile.
"And I guess I should have known, hardcore girls like you don't get scared. My bad. And you still didn't answer my question."

Marley wrinkled her nose and raised an eyebrow when the boy basically started to offend himself. She was still going to stick with 'douchebag' however. The hairdo was enough evidence for her that he was at least slightly so. The batman references would stick him under 'lowlife', however. She didn't answer his question about the things she said - mostly because it was true that she says what comes to her mind without thinking about it. Marley just didn't like to admit it.
"Why do you care so much? How is what I'm doing here any of your business?" Marley asked calmly. After a certain amount of conversation Marley was forced into a clam and accusing attitude. The last thing she needed in her life was to be front page news:Boy Found Dead in a Million Pieces: Suspect in Custody. She had already been in her own sort of prison once, and she definitely didn't plan on finding herself in another.

There was one thing about Everett and that was that he never really stopped talking even if you didn't respond or seemed really unamused by him. He had a strong personality. Marley only seemed to give him a strange look as he went on, suggesting names he could be called. Although not much really bothered Everett when it came down to it and the few things that did really bother him, he didn't tell people about them.
He shrugged at her questions. "I was just trying to make conversation. You don't have to get all defensive." Although the fact that she was made Everett think she was up to no good.

"I'm not being defensive, I'm just trying to figure out why you care so much," Marley retorted. She didn't much like the kids nosiness, but she would answer him if it would get him off her back. "I'm going to go drink coffee and vandalize some abandoned property. Just looking for something to hype up my otherwise boring night," she admitted, hoping that was going to be enough for the boy to decide he was going to continue on through the woods and back to where he came from. But the look on his face every time Marley answered him made her believe he wasn't going to let it go that easy.

Everett raised an eyebrow at her explanation of what she was going to do. Interesting. "That's your idea of fun?" he asked, a slightly confused expression on his face. He got that life was boring if you didn't have your own fun, but vandalizing property? Everett was more into practical jokes and such as his means of fun.
"And you are a bit defensive. You're actually jumping down my throat. And I thought I would get kicked out of Spiritus. Good thing you don't go there." He smiled, even after he made his comment as it was nothing but the truth.

Marley rolled her eyes, crossing her arms over her chest again, "Ok whatever. I'm defensive. And yeah, I find vandalization fun. I like to spray paint shit on buildings and benches and small dogs," she said the last part with a joking tone, but honestly found the idea of painting racing stripes on a doxen fairly amusing. She wouldn't go that far though because she was honestly trying to stay out of trouble.
"I mean clearly we all have different ways of having fun. I like graffitti and you like scaring girls by flickering lights on shady pathways at night," Marley added with a shrug, reminding him of his earlier antics.

"What do you spraypaint? 'School sux'?" Everett laughed, shaking his head at her. "I guess at least you have a hobby. Her sarcasm was never ending, coating her voice like icing on a cake.
He smirked at her comment, liking how quick she was to retort things. It was definitely something he didn't come across in many people and he easily became bored with talking with them because they just gave up or didn't know what to say. Marley didn't.
"I do other things, you know," he told her. "But yes, messing with electricity is fun. I can knock out the power if I wanted to. I fried some girl's hairdryer last year and she was royally pissed."

"No, I don't spray paint 'school sux' as much as I believe that to be a true statement. I'm a little more mature than that," Marley told the boy. Which of course he wouldn't believe. But he hadn't seen Marley's work. She usually painted intricate scenes, birds or trees, bodies of water, anything that she had in her mind. And she usually painted over all the negative things people were throwing up on the walls. Even if she agreed with them. She'd rather create art than throw words around like weapons. At least when she was making it permanent.
"Wow you seem like a real charmer," Marley continued when the boy told her about the hairdryer. "I don't understand how you can possibly be here tonight without a date."

"Oh, I see. Good to know. I see that spraypainted way too often. Guess you're more original than that." Everett shoved his hands into his pockets. "So what do you write then? What does a mature vandalizer do?" He honestly wanted to know
"You haven't fallen for my geeky charm yet? Shocking. Most girls find me irresistible." He cracked a smile. He didn't need a date anyway, he had his newly bought comic books in his backpack. That was good enough.
