"Is that a bad thing? Don't you like the sound of it?" Everett asked, beaming at her from across the table. He wasn't really arrogant, but it was fun when people expected something of you to act exactly the way they thought you would. Everett enjoyed playing a part anyway. It was fun to play up to people's expectations of you.
He frowned at her when she rejected his idea of getting espresso. "Whoa, there. Threatening me with making me explode? I'll just get hot chocolate, but I'll have you know that coffee or not, you still have to deal with me."

"Joy." Marley rolled her eyes. She didn't realize the kid was going to attach to her like a lost puppy. "I'm honestly not sure why I didn't leave you out in the storm. That probably would have been more entertaining for me," she said as she took off her jacket and headed up to the counter, just a few steps away to order a coffee and a banana nut muffin. She turned around to face the boy she left sitting at the table, and leaned against the counter.
"So tell me Everett... is what they say about Sprirtus true? Do they have a room where they hang the skins of all the kids who use their powers outside of class? Is one of your teachers a dragon?" she smirked at the questions. She loved some of the rumors about that place. Of course she didn't believe a single one, but they were still more entertaining than whatever Everett had been talking about.

"Because deep down you're a really good person," Everett told her, a wide grin on his face as she walked up to the counter to order. He'd shrugged off his purple hoodie to show the superman t-shirt he was wearing and looked over at her, bursting into laughter.
"Now those," he said between laughs. "Are some interesting rumors. It's not that bad, although sometimes I do wish I was at Veritas instead. When there are too many rules, they just beg to be broken. Get what I mean?" He'd stood up now, walking over to the counter as well.

Marley raised an eyebrow. "You're taking to Miss "Vandalism is Fun", of course I know what you mean," Marley retorted, still leaning on the counter and waiting for her order. She wasn't sure how she felt about being called a good person. The smile on his face made it seem genuine, but he didn't know her and Marley thought herself to be pretty horrible. Maybe not the most horrible, but still pretty bad.
She took notice to the dorky tshirt Everett wore and she laughed a bit, "Wow. Even your shirt says 'I'm a dorky douchebag'" She paused and tried to remember how he reacted to the insult earlier. "Or if you wanna play your way - a dorky loser' or... lowlife."

Everett shook his head. "Well, it's not as if you're stuck at Spiritus as I am," he shot back, ordering a hot chocolate and a chocolate chip muffin. Okay, so if he couldn't have caffeine, he'd have sugar. Lots and lots of sugar. "It's kind of annoying actually. I'd rather be at Veritas, but....oh well." He heaved a sigh as he turned away from the counter to look at Marley once more.
"I still don't really understand why you peg me with the name 'douchebag' but I won't be too picky about how you insult me. Just saying that the most insulting things are things that are true." He pointed out. He took pride in his shirt though. "And the loser comment, totally accurate."

"You know contrary to popular belief, there are rules there. And I've had my fair share of detentions and quite a bit of community service because of it," Marley rolled her eyes. "My counselor tells me I would have been expelled from Spiritus quite some time ago," She chuckled at the thought. She had been expelled before, but that was from a normal school where he powers were misunderstood.
"And I go with douchebag because everybody is one in one way or another. I am too," She shrugged as she explained. "You're a special case because of the hair mostly," Marley added, taking another look at Everett's hair. "It kinda makes you look like an egotistical jerk." She got her coffee, and added creme and sugar, then sat back down at the table.

"You don't know rules until you've been to Spiritus. Some of our rules are ridiculous," Everett pointed out, while he was sure it wasn't complete free reign at Veritas. No doubt this girl would have been expelled though.
"You do realize that I don't specifically style my hair this way, right? It stands on end all the time. It's static." He used to hate what it did to his hair, but he found it quirky and different, something that made him who he was from his power. "Whatever you say, but if we're going to play that game. You don't look naturally brunette."

Marley shrugged, and twirled the end of her braid around her finger. "Not often you find a natural blonde who wants to be a bottle brunette," Marley chuckled. She figured she'd have to drop the hair argument then, since it wasn't technically his fault - but more so because she didn't want him to bring up her dye-job every time she said it. Currently her hair was a very dark auburn, but she needed to dye it again, especially since her roots were beginning to show. That's probably how Everett could tell. "I mean honestly..." Marley continued on with the subject, "Do I seem like a blonde to you?" she smiled slightly at her own joke.

"Most blondes like their hair the way it is. Although I do have to agree, you don't really seem like a blonde to me," Everett told her, shrugging. He was a blonde, but he never felt the urge to dye his hair dark. However, more things than just Marley's hair seemed dark about her. At least she'd shut up about his hair though.
He followed her back to the table, plopping down in the booth with his hot chocolate and muffin, immediately taking a bite from the muffin.

Marley went to push her bangs out of her face, but stopped herself in fear of revealing the scar that sliced across her left eye. Everett already knew too much about Marley to make her comfortable. It was a conversation she liked to avoid, so she would. "I hate my hair," she mumbled, seeing as some of the lose pieces she had straightened this morning were also beginning to curl due to the moisture in the air from the storm.
Marley sipped her coffee and sighed, looking across the table at the boy with the stand-on-end hair. His energy had already almost completely re-filled. She wondered how he capped it, if he did even. She was always told that if she exceeded her energy cap she would suffer spontaneous combustion.

"Why?" Everett asked curiously. "Why hate what you're given? It's you. Your hair is naturally blonde...and apparently curly." He grinned at the hair that was starting to curl, falling out of her braid.
He tried not to be too aware of his own hair, sticking up, or the fact that he could still feel the energy from the storm outside. Rain pitter-pattered against the coffee shop window and he glanced out there for a moment, catching sight of a lightning bolt moving across the sky. He shuddered and turned back to Marley. "Look, I don't usually just hold weird conversation about hair, so how about a change in subject?"
He needed to be distracted from the energy he was feeling pulsing through him anyway. The energy that he just needed to give off. He was bursting with electricity. He'd been told in powers class that he could probably create lightning if he learned to control his powers enough, but the idea honestly freaked Everett out as much as it sounded awesome.

Marley let her curls fall from her fingertips, and was thankful that Everett wanted to change the subject. He talked about hating what she was given, but that's all Marley life was. Everything she was given hurt her in some way or another. Every 'chance' she was given fell to shit. She didn't expect Everett to understand. He hair was just something she could control. She liked it that way.
"Well what do YOU want to talk about?" Marley asked, pulling a piece off of her muffin and eating it. His Energy continued to climb, and he was getting a little bit jumpy from the lightning outside. "Probably not the lightning," Marley said. "That seems to make you squirm."

"Anything, as long as it doesn't lead back to my 'douchebag' hair, as you call it," Everett pointed out. "I could go on a rant about comic books and the newest issue of my favorites, but I think I'll spare you. You probably don't appreciate such a sophisticated art." And if she was into comic books, then that would shock him.
He sent her a glare when she mentioned the lightning again. "Shut up, lightning is dangerous. Especially for me." He turned away from the window as the sky lit up again, feeling keyed up from all of the electricity. "I have a few questions for you, I guess that could work in sparking up a conversation." He took another bite of his muffin, trying to ignore the storm.

Marley rasied an eyebrow at his suggestion to talk about comic books. She knew about superheroes, she had seen the Avengers multiple times. But she wouldn't say she particularly cared for the "sophisticated art" as Everett was calling it. If he was going to be a super pretentious about a topic then Marley definitely didn't want to go down that road. She'd probably send his muffin flying across the room.
"It depends what kind of questions you're going to be asking," Marley said, not making eye contact, but being very interested in the muffin she was slowly pulling apart and eating. She finally looked up to Everett just as he jumped again from the lightning of the storm. She didn't react, just waited for whatever interview opportunity the kid was looking for.

"See, I knew you couldn't handle talking about the complexity of the best comic books ever written," Everett pointed out when she didn't say anything and merely raised an eyebrow at him. He remembered debating with kids in middle school on the subject. Marvel or DC? That was easy. Marvel, even if he did love Batman and Superman. He guessed they were both good for different reasons though. He could defend both sides fairly well.
"When you took that energy from me...absorbed it, I mean...how did you know when to stop taking it from me?" He remembered the feeling as if he was being drained. "And...could you drain somebody completely of their energy? Would it kill them?" He fired the questions off, his mind overwhelmed with wonder.
