Ethan perked up when he finally heard her reply to him. He hadn't noticed that she shook her head, but he just figured she didn't want to speak anyway because of the silence. "Gabe?" he asked in question as he stopped the car, but he didn't get out just yet. "What did he do to you?" Ethan sounded just a tad protective, but how could he not? If Gabe could make her cry that bad to cause a thunder storm, then he must'v done something horrible.
"Come on, we'll talk inside." Ethan then added before Mikayla could say anything. It seemed a bit awkward talking in his car while the rain pounded on the windshield. He quickly stepped out, went to the other side and opened Mikayla's door and hurried inside with her under his arm. He was thankful that his office was a short walk from the front door. He pulled out his keys and jammed it in the keyhole and turned until he heard a 'click'. Ethan opened the door and took off his rain coat. "There. Less awkward now." he joked with a half smile. "Now, back to my question."
ooc: Blah, shitty post I know.

Byron shook his head. "Nah, I don't drink much ... unless it's New Years Eve. Man that's always fun .." he rambled with a smirk. "I'm not even drunk, just buzzed. And that drink tasted awful." Byron stuck out his tongue playfully, backing up what he said with the tongue. "Anyway, I think there's a fountain down here ... somewhere ... This school's to big to remember every fountain they put in here."

She was still shivering even though they had been in the car for several minutes. When they arrived at Spiritus, she was only shivering more. But she felt safer now. She knew where she was, and soon both she and Ethan would be protected from her storm. She nodded when he suggested they talk inside, and let him lead her through the school and to his office, which was not too far from the front entrance.
She knew his office was no longer full of boxes and obstacles, but still she stood just inside the door when he let her in, not wanting to bump into anything and make a further inconvenience of herself by tripping again. She wondered if his office contained just his desk or if there was a sofa somewhere. She wanted to see it, but knew it was impossible, and felt frustrated. Her lack of eyesight had caused all of these problems. She couldn't walk back to Spiritus without calling Ethan for help, it had enabled Gabe to lie to her, and she couldn't even see what Ethan's office looked like.
"It's just... Gabe. My date for tonight... He took advantage of the fact that I c-can't see," she managed to get out as she stood by the door. She did not have a jacket to take off, and instead stood there pathetically, shivering while her hair and dress dripped water onto the hardwood floor.

Ethan pulled out a chair for her to sit in. "Come here," he said to her as he took her arm in his and led her further in his office. "You need to sit and relax. You look like you're about to collapse." Ethan's tone was a worried one, for he had never seen a student in such stress in ... ever. Was it really that bad? He wondered what Gabe did that was so terrible when she mentioned half of what he did.
"He did what?" This time Ethan's voice was a bit more serious. How could someone do that?? Take advantage of someone who has a disability, especially when that disability is blindness?? It disgusted Ethan, to tell the truth. "How did this happen?" he asked in a more softer tone for he didn't want to scare Mikayla with his seriously angry-ish tone. He just could not believe someone would do that, especially to Mikayla.
ooc: Awwe Ethan's getting protective XD
edit by Courtney: Mikayla and Ethan's story continued in 'Fix You', found in the Spiritus Staff Offices until thread is complete

Eloise made a wry face upon discovering somebody had already managed to slip alcohol into the punch. Eloise heard horror stories about her father waking up even more sensitive to other's thoughts after a night of drinking in college. She had no desire to learn what that was like, seeing as her sensitivity to thought was naturally so high. "So much for a refreshing drink," Eloise stated with a bit of a sigh. "I'm Eloise," she introduced herself after a brief moment of silence to the boy whom she already identified.
Rafi couldn't help but chuckle at Dakota's rambling. It was - dare he think it - cute. But Rafi knew better than to act on these opinions, because most of the guys he talked to were straight and assumed Rafi to be so as well. And he would hate to turn a possible friendship away by scaring somebody. "I don't think you're a fool," Rafael promised. "A little... talkative tonight, perhaps. But that's nothing to be ashamed of." He smiled toward Dakota, hoping that he wasn't becoming uncomfortable knowing that a bit of alcohol was his reason for carrying on the conversation. Rafi was enjoying it, and couldn't see anyone else in the near vicinity he was remotely interested in talking to.
"You can call me Marley or you can shut your face hole," Marley offered Everett, giving him two options in response to the villain name. He didn't know it, of course, but Marley was very sensitive about names in general. Being called names was a regular social difficulty Marley faced. Not knowing her real name was another thing the girl struggled with coping with after age 10 or so. "This is dumb," she said, turning to walk off the dance floor, not really caring if Everett followed or not. But she was about to create her own fun, just like she had planned.

Cat wondered if it was bad, that her first reaction to Mace's story was to chuckle at his misfortune... And considering his passionate ire over the memory, it most likely was. She was probably expected to comfort him, but it was hard to take his kicked puppy expression seriously, she wanted to smile so badly! Instead, she bit back at her grin and tried for studied indifference, because there just wasn't any way to win.
"Influence his luck?" She then latched onto the phrase, deciding it was a safer, newer, more interesting topic to pursue next. "I'm afraid I don't quite understand... Is that another way of playing jokes on him?" Cat joked, though the quirk of her brow revealed her serious wish to understand. "It must have been good payback," She agreed by the look on his face, "you should tell me that story some time."
She then smiled at his cool response to her analysis, but she truly couldn't agree with him. He was just too... boyishly charming, she thought. "I honestly can't see it." She replied, earnest in her opinion- Cat simply couldn't see the darkness of a wolf in him, his roguishness to her really was more of a dog's, which- was kind of ironic, she realized. It was yet another of their contrasting traits, that made her realize how odd a pair they must make. She glanced around and noticed she wasn't the only one to make the connection. Many were staring. She tried to ignore it though, since Mace didn't seem to care about the attention himself. "It's not a naive innocent, but it's like you look at life with wide open eyes." She smiled, shrugging lightly.
She then wondered how to explain, continuing tentatively... "It's your aura. You're cheery. Actually, when I first saw you at Spiritus, I had pegged you for the broody type more. It was the dark long hair that mislead me." She tried to grin cheekily, but it came out as a half-smirk. It was meant as a playful jab at his obvious pride over his hair, though secretly, Cat thought it was pretty awesome too. She wouldn't ever admit it, though, she quickly decided in their friendship.
At his response to her reason for being there, Cat flushed lightly as he slowly repeated it back to her. It really was ridiculous, she supposed. "I actually pride myself on my logic," She tried to redeem herself, a not-so-small part of her voice dedicated to spiting those dumb popular Spiritus girls that were the opposite of logical- "I don't really think about destiny and fate. I just... I found a dress, my friends from Cranbrook randomly decided to give me a makeover, I-" She cut herself off, realizing that not accidentally poisoning someone isn't supposed to count as lucky... "You're right, I'm being ridiculous. It's not like my fortune could be cosmically changed; it's really freewill. I think it was a good decision to come, though." She smiled brightly up at him, completely over the idea of eloquently explaining it. "So... and you were looking out for your cousin, huh?" She awkwardly changed the topic, trying not to make it too obvious. As she pictured the situation in her mind, she smirked, because Mace seemed to be a bit overprotective for his cousin to just refuse telling him. "Maybe she's afraid you'd scare him away, though I'm sure you wouldn't do anything to hurt her." She humorously but gently suggested, wondering if that had occurred to him. "When a guy has a special place in a girl's heart, that's kind of the end. She won't give you any chances to change her mind." She shrugged, hoping it could help if that troubled him. Perhaps it was cheesy, but Cat was being honest from her own experience. And Lord knows how many experiences she's had, she thought wryly, remembering her past penchant for whirlwind romancing at fifteen. Boy, had it been easy for her to fall in love, she inwardly sighed...
At his disturbing idea that one of the boys that bumped into her could be her future husband, she threw him an offended look. "That's not funny," She replied dirtily to his snickers, pointedly implying him crass (though a smile threatened to destroy the disapproval she was trying to project). "They're too... dead," She explained, not realizing the more literal truth in that statement. "I'd also like to think that, if there is such a thing as destiny, it's not that unkind." She nodded mock-solemnly, before chuckling and left it at that.
Over the music, Cat soon realized that it was raining pretty hard outside. She looked at the entrance, focusing on the sound with a look of concern... "Is it just me, or is a freak storm brewing outside?" Behind her voice were other questions depending on his answer, like if it would be safe to leave, or what had caused it, and... "Speaking of future husbands, what are they doing over there?" Cat noticed, with growing agitation, that the two rude boys were blocking the way to leave. A small crowd was forming in front of the exits, though it wasn't anything really serious yet- but it disturbed Cat. She straightened, instincts telling her something wasn't right.

Monroe knew that Adaryn wasn't fine. The smile on her face was as fake as the cafeteria food. Besides, he knew her. He knew something was up, but he also wouldn't pry. She was probably just still uneasy about everything. So instead, he just nodded. "Just so you know, I know that something's bothering you, but....I'm going to attempt to let it go." He squeezed her hand and managed a small smile just before she mentioned Eloise. He was going to suggest they go do something else together, but Eloise had brought them here and they hadn't seen her since the beginning of the dance. So she had a point. Besides, he didn't want Eloise to think they hated her. That was far from the truth. She just came off a little strong sometimes.
"You're right," he agreed softly. "I'll go find her." It was a good idea anyway. As his hand left hers, he felt as if something was missing and he hesitated to go, thinking he should kiss her on the cheek or something before he left, but then again, Monroe was never really sure about all of this stuff and he didn't want to freak Adaryn out. Holding her hand was even a risk, so instead he just awkwardly shifted from one foot to the other before saying, "I'll be right back, okay?" and he moved into the crowd once again in search of Eloise.
-------------
"Guess I still need to work on tearing down your ego then, but I can't help that it shocks me a little when you decide to kiss me out of nowhere. You, Skylar, have no shame." Tanner shook his head at her, but he was laughing, unable to stop himself. She was just Skylar. She was unscripted, raw and real and everything she did was spontaneous and he was often left reeling trying to figure her out, but....it did make things interesting. He had to give her that.
"Okay," he told her, nodding as she released him and moved away, disappearing into the crowd of people. He stood there for a moment and then decided to move towards the punch table where he poured himself a cup and took a small sip, his face contorting into something like disgust at the taste. He looked over to a blonde girl in a white dress and pointed towards his cup. "Have you tried this? What's in it?"
He was aware of who she was. She went to Veritas, a freshman, but that was what one side of him knew. The other knew who she was associated with and her power and that she was friends with the one that his father wanted. But this side had not come out because his father hadn't ordered him to do anything regarding Eloise, so instead he just offered her and the guy she was talking to a wry smile before looking down at his cup again. He wondered where Skylar had gone, but decided not to think too hard about it. He also wondered why his father hadn't said anything more to him.
------------
Gavin was full out smirking, enjoying the way she moved against him. When she sunk to the floor and moved back up, her face close to his, he was driven mad. He wanted to grab her face and pull her closer, to shove her up against the nearest wall and have his way with her, to drive her crazy with his touch and make her beg for more.
The look she was giving him said it all, but he could not give in. There was no way. He would play this game until the very end. And he would be declared the winner. Still, he couldn't help it as his eyes drifted to her lips. He was about to respond when a voice cut in, someone talking to Aura. Couldn't they see that this was not the time?! Annoyed, he turned in the direction of the female voice, seeing the profile of a blonde. She complimented Aura and then said something about not seeing her walk in.
"I didn't see you come in either," he replied, deciding to enter the conversation where he wasn't wanted. At least that's how it seemed. He knew it wasn't his question to answer, but he would anyway. Why was the girl turned away from him, completely ignoring his presence? He was dancing with Aura and she just interrupted!
He craned his head to try and get a better look at her. She was everything opposite of Aura in how she looked, but she radiated attitude. He liked that much about her.

"Good, because you're already goofy, alcohol must increase that by a tenfold," Keyla told him, shaking her head as she led him down the hallway. "And it did taste horrid." It wasn't hard to agree with that. Whoever had spiked it, she had a few guesses, had used something strange. It wasn't your typical alcohol, not like she was the expert, but still. Something was odd about the whole thing. She pointed to a water fountain as they neared it and took the cup she'd grabbed and filled it to the brim with water, handing it over to Byron.
"You know, even though you're tipsy and the dance itself is kind of lame, I'm glad I stumbled upon someone to talk to." She offered him a smile. "You don't seem to mind my company."
---------
"Well, uh, thanks," Dakota stammered, offering a weak smile to Rafi. "I'm not sure I'm making sense. My words just seem to sort of...fall out of my mouth lately." He'd been trying to get himself back to a good place, although it seemed like he was just completely out of place no matter what he tried. Being a teenager sucked. Being a teenager with powers sucked even more. "Honestly, I'm kind of shocked you're still standing here talking with me." That might have slipped out as well.
--------
Everett merely stared at her after what she'd said. It was a long moment before she started walking off the dance floor and muttering something about it being stupid. He followed her, finally allowing himself to laugh in reaction to what he could call her. "Okay, so that wasn't exactly the answer I was looking for, but fitting for you. The Adventures of Dork Boy and 'You Can Shut Your Face Hole,' do you think that's too long for a comic book title?" He was joking of course, but he definitely thought he was clever.
-----------
"You know...influencing his luck," Mace said, as if that was going to help her understand any better. He finally gave in. "My power...uh, probability manipulation?" He guessed he shouldn't assume that everybody knew what his power was. "If Gavin gets on my nerves, I just give him bad luck. Makes me feel a bit better and if karma comes after me, I can just change my luck. Some may call it cheating the system, but I call it creativity." He beamed at his explanation and the thought of getting back at his roommate. "I have lots of stories," he offered with a shrug. And she actually wanted to hear them? Wow, Mikayla always acted interested, but he knew she wasn't.
"I can be broody," he argued playfully, attempting to put on some sort of pouty face that just ended in him bursting out in laughter. "Okay, so maybe I'm not the best at it, but looks can be deceiving." In truth, he just kept his hair long because he liked it that way, but he still didn't exactly understand her observations about him, although it was nice to know that she'd been paying attention to him enough to make observations at all.
He laughed as Cat got a bit flustered about what he'd said regarding fate and destiny. "No worries," he said when she'd finished. "I was just giving you shit, although I do think you came here of free will. School dances might be lame, but we're allowed to indulge in the lameness of high school every once in a while, don't you think?" He raised an eyebrow, before she'd changed the subject smoothly to his cousin.
"Yeah, but I still want to meet the guy. I'm curious! And I'm looking out for her. Doing my part as her older cousin. Teenage guys with powers? A lot of things could go wrong." She had to admit that was true. Still, he rolled his eyes at the cheesy explanation. "Jeez, Cat. You talk as if you've had experience," he joked, wondering who she once had her eye on.
"Okay, that was a little out of line, but hey, at least you don't have to pick your husband from this room. I was just being a smart-ass. It's one of my many great attributes." He flashed her a smile before following her eyes to the doors. There was a break in the bass-pounding music and he listened carefully to hear the rain outside. It did sound like one hell of a storm. "Damn, you're right." He squinted, trying to see what was going on over there. "Hell if I know..."

Aura was disappointed to learn that she knew the voice. If it was anyone else, she would blow them off. But this was Skylar. Her teammate. Oh, shit. Her teammate! A momentary panicked flickered across Aura's face when she realised how this must look to Skylar. Aura was dancing with Gavin Maddox, captain of the Spiritus swim team. Her swim mates would skin her!
But then the panic subsided. Wait. What did she care? They couldn't tell her what to do. She smiled and shrugged in a 'yeah, I know I'm hot' sort of way. "You look great too," she said. Aura was not one for human companionship. Not anymore, anyway, but she held a loyalty to her teammates. She had been swimming with them for a while, after all, and she was not about to just ditch them because they weren't Gavin. Now, if they tried to get her to change back to her old self, that was another story.
There was the scent of hostility in the air with the way Skylar was ignoring Gavin. Aura suspected it was because they were rivals and thought nothing else of it. She glanced at Gavin with amusement at the way he pushed himself right back into the conversation even though Aura's teammate was treating him like he was a wall. "I didn't get here all that long ago. Just long enough to... try the punch," she said with a grin that could only be described as mischevous. "Are you here with anyone?" she asked. In all honesty, she had not been paying much attention to her swim mates' lives since the last meet. She had been too busy with her own demonic agenda.

"like dogs?" Adam grimaced "not really" Adam didn't want to offend Ziio by talking bad about her friend but he really didn't like dogs, When he was small a dog would chase him up the road when he tried playing with the other kids. The dog had even bit his friends arm, all adam remembers was lots of blood and taking him home, he couldn't was the blood out of his hand for days. "I had some bad times with a dog in our neighbourhood" He grabbed the food he had picked out and started eating "Yeah I love fish, i like a lot of things that are due to my powers"

"Ah, I see," Ziio replied to him. "When I was young my mother would tell me all the neat stories her native tribe shared. One of them was how the black cat was good luck in some ways." Ziio thought for a moment. "Hmm ... Like if you own a black cat it's considered as good luck."
Ziio continued to nibble at her noodles, careful not to open her mouth wide enough for him to see her missing tongue. Not a lot of people knew about it, and she preferred to keep it that way. However, it was kind of difficult, especially with cold sticky noddles.
ooc: You know what? Now I want a black cat. Maybe it'll bring luck to my bad luck life. XD

Adaryn
She sighed softly, hoping he wouldn’t hear it. It was disappointing that she still couldn’t fake anything. It seemed like everybody else in this world thought she was as complicated as Latin, where as Monroe saw her as simple, kindergarden taught English. He knew her, and it frustrated her. She was so used to pushing people away so they never even wanted to find out who she was. But Monroe took one look at her and saw it all. He saw her pain, he saw her willingness to protect and he saw her willingness to die. Most people would be happy, after all this time of not having someone understand them, to know that someone finally did. But she was just the opposite. She wasn’t happy because now that he understood, he would always care. So if she died, he would be hurt, devastated almost. Those scars on her arm? They were a reminder that she couldn’t hurt anyone again. And she just knew, whether intentionally or not, she would break Monroe in some way. And that was why she was putting it to an end right now. She had to.
The whispers grew louder, and they taunted her; Saying everything that she wanted so desperately to be false, how she was a murderer, how nobody could ever love her, how she was a pathetic excuse of a human being. Adaryn had to get away so she didn’t go crazy, and so Ella and Monroe didn’t see either. She maneuvered her way through the crowd and slipped out of the Auditorium. That is when the laughing started, and she began to run.
ooc: Creepy much?
Skylar
Skye could feel her brother peering over her shoulder and trying to look at her team mate again. It was disgusting, she thought, that her brother had the nerve to hit on one of her friends. This guy didn’t deserve Aura, and he definitely, as a side note, did not deserve the title of captain of the Spiritus swim team. “I see you found yourself a date with the Spiritus Swim Captain.” She had a plan forming in her head, but she wasn’t sure whether or not she could handle it. Though, if it meant giving Gavin irritated and possibly provoke a fight out of him, it had to be worth it.
She turned towards her brother and forced a grin, biting her lip and act as if she was clearly interested in the douche bag in front of her. “He’s cute. I hope you don’t mind me saying this Aura, but I much prefer him with less clothes on.” Oh god. Ew. No. Ugh. Why?! “I have seen him at the meets, and well, less suits him much more than this tux does.” She grabbed a hold of his suit and played with the fabric in between her fingers. She looked back over at Aura. “You don’t mind, do you?”

Aura raised her eyebrows at Skylar. Was she about to get yelled at now, for dancing with Gavin? Technically this wasn't a date. Well, unless Gavin wanted to call it one, but Aura did not correct her. She might have had she had more time to think it through, except just then Skylar was calling Gavin cute and flirting and touching him.
Aura stiffened, her eyes flashing and her teeth gritted. "We've all seen him at the meets, but you all do your best to avoid him," she said through her gritted teeth. When her teammate asked if she minded, Aura huffed and looked at Gavin with alarm. Did she mind? Did she mind?! Her hands clenched into fists, her fingernails digging into her palms, but she took no notice of the pain. If this were a cartoon, steam would have been puffing out of her nostrils. But she wasn't a cartoon. She was a demon. That was even better.

Oh yes, she was everything opposite of Aura. Long, wavy blonde hair, light skinned. But she looked just as devious as Aura, if not more, as if she had a lot of practice in it. He'd seen her at meets. She was on the Veritas swim team and obviously she'd seen him too. Although who didn't?!
Gavin turned into her touch, a sultry smile on his lips as she played with the fabric of his tux. "I do look better with less clothes on. It's a proven fact. Most would attest to that," he said cockily, raising an eyebrow at Skylar. He could feel Aura getting angrier by the second and he knew that with her powers, she was lethal and would cause a scene if someone got under her skin enough. "Careful," he warned the blonde. "You don't want to unleash the devil in the red dress." His voice lowered into a whisper. "She's feisty. I would know."

Eloise turned from Darik and faced another boy whom she was pretty sure she had seen around Veritas. However something stuck her as odd... because she could tell. She couldn't read him. She even tried to reach for his name, but couldn't. With a bit of a raised eyebrow she commented on his observation. "Uh... yeah... it's spiked," she didn't mean to come across as weird as she did. "According to Darik it happens alot?" she half asked. She wouldn't know. This was her first ball. Next year she'd have to attack the punch early. She didn't think too much about that though as she went back to the fact that she couldn't read the new boy in front of her. She was sure the way he was looking at his was strange, so she tried not to. but she couldn't help it. Never before had she encountered somebody she couldn't read.
"Why?" Rafi asked Dakota. "I'm enjoying your company and you have not yet seemed to bore of me. So why would I leave?" he asked with a chuckle. "Just because you're slightly inebriated doesn't make me enjoy this conversation any more or any less" Rafi was always honest. He just hoped that Dakota would talk to him again when he was not under the influence. He wasn't exactly sure how much that he had to drink, but the way he was suddenly nervous about his actions made Rafi believe it was enough to throw him off a bit.
Marley turned back to glare at Everett when he twisted her words around. "Shut the fuck up," she said simply, before continuing off the dance floor and to one of the tables which surrounded the area full of dancing teens. She reached her hand out and a couple of pairs of shoes which girls had taken off and abandoned at the table came toward Marley. She grabbed them out of the air, holding them by the straps. "Now if you're going to stay true to your word, grab shoes." She wasn't about to explain just yet.

Adaryn
There was something about the way it felt to willingly make a decision that could ultimately end your life. And when those whispers started, she knew that she would be dead. She knew she would be dead because she would give them what they wanted so nobody else got hurt. After all, if Cain was going after other kids, then they would be hearing the whispers too. But more importantly, she knew that neither El or Monroe would get attacked.
Adaryn was trying to do the right thing this time. She was doing what she had to do to make up for what she had done to her sister as well as to everyone else, whether they thought it was rediculous or not. Her breathing was heavy, and she could have sworn, even in the light flats she was wearing, she could hear the thud of her feet on the concrete floor. She didn't quite know where she was going, but the voices seemed to be leading her somewhere. Because when the voices got quiet, she knew she was going in the wrong direction. They eventually lead her to the one place she had not explored before... The Veritas indoor pool.
Skylar
She wanted to vomit, oh how she wanted to vomit. "Oh don't worry," Skye said in a seductive tone "We're friends and I know exactly what she can do. But you? Well, I'd love to see what you could do." She ran her hand along his biceps, noting how this was probably the most disgusting thing she has ever done. Skye also noted how much of a bitch she sounded like in her head. Come on Maddox! It isn't like you are kissing him! You can do this! Or at least, she hoped she could.
But as she continued to speak to Gavin, she could feel Aura's burning glare on her back. It didn't take an empath to realize Aura was severely pissed off. Honestly, Skye wasn't afraid of Aura the way others were. She could easily reverse Aura's demonic power in a second. But what she didn't want was to give herself away before it was time to. All this teasing, all this nausea, would be for nothing.
Skye didn't know what to do. It was either pull Aura aside and tell her what was going on, ignore her and risk getting killed because she didn't want to give up her power, or use her power when her swim mate decides to go all demon and get discovered. Well, this was definitely a hard choice.
